    Jurassic Park V: Evolution (Part5)
    By Crisco

    Part 5:

“No” Malcolm said, now coming off his hangover, legs crossed and hands folded on his lap.

“Dr. Malcolm, your country needs your assistance. We need you to be there with these guys, they have no experience.” Ingalls pleaded.

“Absolutely No Way.” Malcolm said. “In fact I’m not all too sure I want to let ANY OF YOU go to that island.”

“And what gives you that authority?” Phillips blurted out.

    “Experience.” Malcolm answered calmly.

“Dr. Malcolm, I know you’ve had terrible experiences on both Isla Sorna and Isla Nublar, but this is not a similar situation. I have a armed task force that will be doing all the dirty work.”

“They will not change anything.” Malcolm said defiantly.

“There is a bomb on the island. It’s dormant as of right now, but we need to get it quickly.”

“Great, a bomb.” Malcolm said. “That’s EXACTLY what you’ve ALWAYS needed. Say, instead of sending MORE people to their deaths on that island why not blow it up, you’ve already got the equipment.”

“Dr. Malcolm, that’s not your decision. We’re not going to constantly haggle with you so take it or leave it. Remember, we need your help, we have a limited amount of knowledge about this island that doesn’t compare to yours‘.”

Malcolm raised his hand hoping that Ingalls would stop.

“Here’s what I’ll do. I’m sure you have all high tech top of the line stuff. Umm., say I “stay here” (he motioned with his hands) and they go there, and somehow I can uhh, periodically connect with them along their trip.”

“That’s gonna’ be more equipment…” Ingalls said.

“It sounds perfect to me,” Philips said, arms crossed. “ The equipments expendable, this guy (he pointed to Malcolm) is too much of a risk while he’s with us.”

“Call me what you want but I’m staying put.” Malcolm said, contently.

“Fine, you’ll stay here, with me, and we’ll connect via satellite say, every 6 hours during the trip.”

“Sounds good. Is the equipment ready?” Philips asked.

“Should be, everything’s down at the marina. Are you’re men ready?” Ingalls inquired.

Philips nodded. “And what about the girl?”

“Ms. Chase will be accompanying you, she shouldn’t be too much of a problem, she’s been reading up on the history of Isla Sorna, accounts of survivors etc. We’ve done our best in trying to prepare her and her cameraman.”

Philips rolled his eyes. “You owe me one Bruce.”

Ingalls waved his hand in the air, “Believe me, I’m well aware of that.”

Geniece walked into the office and caught Bruce’s attention.

“Kate Banks from NASA just called.”

Phillips interrupted, “I better get going”

“Yes,” Bruce answered. “I’ll have the techies notified about the new equipment. Everyone please leave my office.”

    “Geniece?”

“Yes, Ms. Banks will be coming later this evening. She has been notified about the Orion and wants to meet with you, she wants to be involved in the recovery.”

“Thank God we’re leaving so soon then, by the time she gets here they’ll be on the island. Is that all?”

    “Yes Mr. Ingalls.”

“Good, Geniece, take a break I’m going to need you back at 7:00 and I doubt you’ll be going home very soon after that.”

“Ok sir.” Geniece said as she left the room.

Dan Camp’s jaw hung far below his face as he entered the garage. The armored hummers glistened under the florescent light. They were like nothing he had ever seen. Both’s windows were as black as could be. Even the front window had a tint. The silver steel covered all possible parts of the enormous SUV. Both SUVs were equipped with a motorbike attached to the rear. The bikes were almost as amazing as the hummers. Carmen rubbed her hand across the bike.
Ricky looked at her, “I bet those things are heavy shit.”

Carmen picked the bike of the rack, “Not at all actually.”

A young white man probably in his 20’s walked up to the group with two huge, heavy binders. Mark smiled as the skinny man struggled with the binders. He eventually opened the car door and dropped them in.

“These are the manuals. It is crucial that you read them so that you will know how to take care of the vehicles. You’d be surprised how much money was put into these things. After all we had to work around the clock for the past 48 hours to get these things modified in time. We are currently getting your satellite equipment General Ingalls requested earlier. I suggest you all sit tight and read the manuals.” The skinny man walked away and looked at Rachel as he passed. She glared at him as he eyed her.

“Time to read the manual” Carmen said aloud, lifting the binder.

Mark smiled and picked up the second, they walked over to the trash can and dropped them in.

Jesse sat in the driver’s seat of the second Hummer which had a camouflage netting packed on top of the car.

“Everyone get used to these, we’ll be living out of them for the next few days.”

Dan had popped up the hood of the second hummer and checked out the engine. Ricky was straddling the motorbike, gripping the handlebars.

“Gary, do you feel kind of weird doing this? I mean it’s really intimidating, all these measures they’re taking to keep us safe.” Rachel said still staring at the vehicles.

“A little Rach. But you’ve got to get over that. We have gotten THE opportunity of a lifetime. No one, I mean no one has gotten a free pass to Isla Sorna. Every reporter in the country would die for this chance.”

“Yea I know. In a week I’ll be working at CNN. I’ll have my OWN show. No more “New Dress Code for the county’s schools” or “ Motorboat pollution destroying bay area air”. I’m sick of stupid reports.

“Yep.” said the thirty year old white man as he scratched his beard and peered through his lens.

“I know it’s stupid but I’m hoping that their camera is still in tact. I mean, what excellent footage it would be to have the crash from inside the ship.”

Gary laughed at Rachel, “There’s no way that any camera would survive a crash on that island. And even if it did, it’s not like we could just replace the batteries and watch. I mean it’s definitely been rained on, burnt, and probably trampled.”

Rachel felt stupid and laughed at herself. Gary got up and turned to her. “I’m going to get some snacks, you want anything?”

    “No thanks, I’m fine.”

Rachel yawned and got up herself, walking towards the office. To her right was a door with shady sign that showed a person in a dress. Rachel cracked the door open and peered in. A fly buzzed past her ear and the stench alone made her cringe and shut the door. She walked back to the first hummer and sat in the passenger seat, putting on makeup as she watched herself in the rear-view mirror.

“Hey” Mark said, sitting in the driver’s seat.

Rachel jumped and was relieved to see him. “Hi” she spitted out.

“I hope you’re not worried, I think we’ve got everything under control.”

“Let’s hope so, I hope you all aren’t fooling around as much as you are once we get there, I don’t want some.. Uh ceratotasaurus to catch us off guard.” Rachel said coldly, applying her lipstick.

“I think It’ll be smooth sailing.” Mark lied. He looked at Rachel who was watching herself in the mirror. She may be a bitch, but she sure was beautiful.

Rachel looked at Mark who was staring at her, she eyed him with a look of disgust.

“Sorry” Mark said as he exited the car.

Rachel looked back into the mirror at herself, fixing her hair, she smiled.
