    JPIV: Extinction (prologue)
    By Crisco

    Jurassic Park IV: Extinction

The two fishermen were on their knees, kissing the white sand. They had been shipwrecked on a nearby reef and were extremely fortunate to find the island, it was getting dark and they desperately needed shelter. One of the men was young, tan and muscular. The other man was older and weaker, his hair was gray and body tired from years of labor. They both had ripped clothes from the swimming through the dangerous reef and bruises and scars from cutting themselves on coral and bumping against hard, protruding rocks.
The men walked into the jungle, hoping to find shelter. They walked for about a mile and heard hooting in the distance. Both men did not recognize the sounds and kept moving. They soon found an abandoned shack and began to look through it, there was an old-worn out computer and a desk, and a large logo was painted on the wall. They decided to rest in the room for the night and settled down on the floor. Late at night they heard the hooting calls again, they were closer and high-pitched. The men both looked at each other puzzled. The older man stood up, and looked out the window. He saw nothing and laid back down on the ground. Suddenly, a reptilian head popped up against the glass window, it’s breath fogged up the glass. The reptile was a dinosaur, a velociraptor. The men had heard stories about these islands, islands where terrifying creatures lived, islands where people had ventured and never returned.
The men stood up and ran from the shed, they were ambushed by more raptors and chased through a field. The moon glared at the long, yellow grass making it look almost gold. The raptors were gaining on them and their snarling and hissing was frightening the men. The grassland was ending and starting to become jungle again, the raptor in the lead made a jump at the young man, and fell just a foot behind him. It could now easily kill the two men but it screeched into the foliage and retreated. The raptors behind him ran away quickly hissing and hooting.
The both men were relieved and started breathing deeply but knew not to let their guard down, because there was probably a reason that the raptors retreated. They entered the jungle once again. The jungle was absolutely silent except for the crunching of leaves under the bare-footed men. They heard grunting and stopped. They stood in the lush foliage back to back their eyes wide and alert. The leaves to the side started moving a fraction of the forest looked different from the rest and those leaves reached out at the younger man and decapitated him. Red blood streaked across the older mans chest and hands. He looked at his son’s blood, and ran. He ran like he was in his prime, jumping over logs and dodging tree limbs. He cried out in to the sky, “El bosque esta vive!” “Yo hijo esta muerte!”
As he ran he cried, and stopped as he came to a 40-ft. wall. The wall was steel and at the top was barbed wire, and bunkers. A man in a jumpsuit, carrying a machine gun stood patrolling the wall. The old man cried out, “El bosque esta vive!” This did not get any response from the guard. The old man yelled for help in Spanish at the guard. The armed guard looked at him, cocked his gun, and sent 40 bullets in the man’s chest. Soon after a dozen small green lizards started tearing away flesh at the corpse.
