Batman: The Frightening (prologue) By Crisco
Carrie sat in the passenger seat of Ryan's ferrari. He had his arm around her and the radio playing softly. The car was at the side of a cliff, over-looking Gotham City. It was fall and leaves swirled around the car, enveloping it in a mass of dried leaves. The wind howled through the open back window. The sky was pitch black and the moon glared down at the nervous couple. Ryan moved his hand further down Carries shirt. She stared at the view out of nervousness. His hand crept under her top and he started to kiss her. They were making out when all of the sudden a thump was heard on top of the roof. They stopped and looked above at the indentation on their roof.
"What the Hell..." Ryan said.
"Im scared..."Carrie said, grabbing his shirt.
It was then when they started to notice the wind howling and it sent shivers down their spines. The were more thumps on the top of the car and the couple grasped their seats out of fright. A cackle was heard in the air and a mass of leaves flew into the windsheild. A gust of wind blew them away, leaving an eerie potato-sack mask looking strangly and upside down at the pair. "Boo!" said the odd "scarecrow"like figure.
Carrie and Ryan screamed and were soon covered in an orange gas.
Carrie woke up in a wooden box. She was laid down on satin and her head rested on a pillow. She was in her mother's favorite dress and the starry sky lay above her. Then a top came upon her and the starry sky was replaced with wood. She was in a casket and was being lowered. She screamed at the top of her lungs for help. Tears streaked down her eyes and cheeks.
"HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPP!" she screamed.
"HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!"
She screamed over and over until she found herself whispering it to herself, what used to be her banging on the door was now her tapping against the wooden frame. She tried to yell louder but she couldn't. Her complexion was pale and a fake smile was on her face. She didn't have any control of her body any longer. The tears went away and she couldn't move. Then everything faded to black.
Waves lapped against Ryan's surfboard. His legs and arms were dangling in the salt water. He looked up and to all sides, to see land nowhere in sight. He tried to sit up on the board but slipped and fell into the water, he grabbed onto the edge and lifted his upper body out of the water. Ryan was shivering all over and obviously paranoid. He scrunched his legs into a tight ball and waited to wake up, but he couldn't. He licked his lips. He tasted something, it was familiar, ..... blood. He was bleeding profusely from his nose and he tried to steady himself on the board against the rocking waves. But he slipped and fell deep into the sea. He struggled, but couldnt reach the surface, the water was tinted red around him. He was living out the worst fear of his life. He saw movement in the distance. The water rocked him further, deeper. He closed his eyes and waited for it all to be over. It took too long and he opened them quickly, revealing rows of sharp teeth. The great white quickly devoured his arm and turned for the rest of his body. It grabbed both of his legs and he tried to reach for the surface. It was now, strangely only inches away, but the shark brought him down, back into the darkness, the blood, the ocean water. Then his entire world went black.
