The Quest of Hengus chapter 2

The story so far: Scientists created monsters from myths in the year 2018. They then escaped and destroyed civilization. Then a thousand years later a Scotsman named Hengus opened his front door to find a man standing outside.

He was wearing long black robes and a red cone hat. Around his waist was a brown leather belt with a small pouch and a scabbard holding a sword attached. His beard was long and white, as well as his hair. His nose was short and he had bright blue eyes.
“May I come in ?” He asked.
“Sure. Come on in. And make yourself at home” came Hengus’s reply. He went to boil some water above his fire while the old man went to sit down. Once the water was boiled he poured some into two goblets and made some tea. He gave one goblet to the man and then sat down.
“Why are you here ?” asked Hengus.
“Because I’ve come to tell you something. You’ve probably heard about the Mighty Dragon of the North” said the man.
“Of course I have. My father made an army to go and kill it. But he never returned. My mother told me that he got eaten” said Hengus.
“What you said about your father is true, except for one thing. The Dragon never killed him. He was killed by a vicious horde of mutants” whispered the Old Man.
“Mutants ? Why, my dear fellow, mutants are just plain fantasies. Made up by parents to scare little children. Mutants don’t exist. I know for a fact that my father got killed by the Dragon. That’s what my mother told me” said Hengus in a very angry voice. “And anyhow who are you ?”
“My name I’ll tell you later. But for now look around you. Look at the creatures outside. Dragons. Griffons. Minotaurs. Harpies. Thousands of years ago all these beasts were fantasies. But now look. They’re real. They were the ones that made us live in such harsh conditions. Nobody thought that they would ever exist. Now give me some evidence that the mutants don’t exist”.
Hengus didn’t reply. He had a funny feeling that mutants did exist. When he was a child he once saw a woman walk past him with weird reptile eyes and a snake tongue. When he told everybody about her, nobody believed him. You’re dreaming Hengus he said. But he knew it was real.
“Ok. So if my father did get killed by these mutants how does this concern me ?” asked Hengus.
“Because of what’s happening up in the mountains. In the caves there are plenty of restless movement and loud noises. I went to investigate and discovered that the vast hordes of mutants have allied and are planning to make one huge army and take over the world. Your father was a descendant of a great leader of one of the Scottish Highland clans. Therefore everybody followed him, knowing that he was a natural born leader. But alas, he’s dead. So you’re the next best thing. They say that each generation is more advanced than the last. If this is true than you should be much more advanced than your father. Leading an army would be no problem for you, Hengus McDonald. If you listen to me and make an army to battle these mutants early and defeat them in battle, than the threat would be over before they even had a chance. As for my name, I’m called Abacus”.
“Alright then Abacus. I’ll take your advice. I’ll go and make an army. I’ll go and follow my destiny” replied Hengus.
“Good. We’ll leave first thing at sunrise” said Abacus.
Hengus made a bed for Abacus and then went to his own bed to get some sleep. Thought pondered in his brain. All those tales his mother told him were lies. No such thing as mutants. His father getting eaten by a Dragon. But he’ll learn the truth for sure at sunrise. He then drifted off to sleep.
