    By CeratosPit

“What is it, Billy?” Sarah inquired.

    “There’s something following us.”

The head of Baryonyx exploded out of the water just ten feet behind Roland’s dinghy. It would’ve caught everyone by surprise had Billy’s vague warning not alerted them. The water was six and a half feet deep so the Baryonyx stood about two feet above it’s surface. He roared ferociously at the kids in the boat.

“Whoa!” Cooper hollered. “This is it! Game over, man! Game over!”

“Shut up!” Roland told him. “We have to think of something!”

“I got a idea!” Paul Kirby exclaimed, pulling a cylindrical can from his pocket. “Everyone knows that magical alligators are a scared of beans!” Paul threw the beans at the Baryonyx, whose lightening fast jaws snapped up the can and swallowed it.

“That isn’t a magical alligator, Paul, it’s a Baryonyx! And from the looks of it, it’s hungry!”

As the Baryonyx tied a bib around his neck, Nick Van Owen scanned the area for anything he could use as a weapon. Lo and behold, attached to the nearby wall was a large fire extinguisher. Nick reached out and pulled it off it’s case. Just as Baryonyx was about to snap up Billy out of the water, Nick fired a two second blast of the extinguisher into the dinosaur’s face.

“Ha hah!” Nick laughed. “Take that you punk bitch!” he then turned to Mandy. “Not you, the dinosaur.” It was probably best to clear it all up.

But the Baryonyx was only shaken by Nick’s attack and now he thrashed violently in the water. Ellie looked at her ex and told him “Well, you’re just pissing everyone off today, huh?”

Ian grabbed the fire extinguisher out of Nick’s hand and got ready to jump off the back of the boat. “Billy, get inside.” he said to the floating 8 year old before jumping into the water himself.

“Ian, what are you doing!?” Sarah demanded as she pulled Billy into the boat.

“Guys, hold on to my shoulders!” Ian ordered Billy and Sarah.

They complied, but Billy repeated Sarah’s query. “But why?”

And as the Baryonyx’s gaping mouth zoomed in for the floating teen, Ian explained as simply as he could. “Must go faster.”

Ian plunged the hose of the extinguisher into the water and sPrayed it with enough force to propel the dinghy away from it’s hungry pursuer. The tips of Baryonyx’s jaws snapped inches away from Ian’s face as the boat sPed off. The dinosaur could feel the strange cool stuff in the water given off by their new motor, but continued swimming after them, regardless.

“Ian!” Al yelled from the head of the boat. “How do you steer this crazy thing!?”

“Hell if I know!” Ian told him. “Why?”

    “Because we’re about to crash!”

“Into something big and soft I hope?”

Everyone but Sarah and Billy jumped out of the boat a second before it crashed into an aluminum door at the end of the hallway. But the impact was worst for Ian who was sandwiched between the dinghy and the extinguisher driving them into the door. He was knocked out and sank into the six feet of water.

As the rest of the kids floated around, Sarah dove in after him. Nick turned around to look behind the floating kids and what he saw was Baryonyx breaking the surface twenty yards away and closing in. “It’s coming back!” he warned his crew.

Baryonyx dove back beneath the surface. Although his poor eyesight wouldn’t allow him to see the kids underwater more than ten feet away, his primitive brain calculated their distance so that he could swim up to them and surprise them with an attack from below. And yet, it was Baryonyx who was surprised when he surfaced, not the kids. He searched left, right, and all around the area, but all he saw were the lockers which lined the wall.

Baryonyx waded over to the boat wreckage to investigate, but they weren’t hiding their either. To his right was an adjoining hallway that led to a dead end. On it‘s right were doors to classrooms and on it‘s left were more of the tall lockers lining the rest of the hallways. No predator enjoys being outwitted by it‘s prey, but Baryonyx had to face the truth that his quarry had eluded him. And so, he decided to give up and go back the way he came. Not once did it occur to him that the sixteen teenagers he was chasing were sitting quietly atop the lockers just above his field of vision.

Sarah, Billy and the out cold Ian Malcolm were perched on the lockers just above and to the right of the busted aluminum door which their dinghy crashed into. The rest of the kids sat on either side of the hallway that Baryonyx had followed them through. Even now as the great beast left, he was still unknowingly surrounded by the silent kids on the lockers around him. Most of them were silent at least. Eddie and Paul were snickering under their breath to the dismay of Al and El who covered their mouths.

“Hel-Hello?” a voice rang out from their area. Baryonyx paused in his tracks and looked back. “Is anybody out there!? Hello? Yes, this is Donny Gennaro! I’ve been trapped in this locker all day!” the young law geek yelled out from the locker beneath Cooper and Nash. Oh the irony. “Please, let me out! Those bastards Cooper and Nash trapped me in here earlier, and MAN are they gonna have a lawsuit on their hands!” The aforementioned bullies shook their heads and mouthed the word ‘no’ to all the kids who watched them.

Baryonyx turned back and walked up to the noisy locker, Cooper and Nash barely a foot above his head. All of the dinosaur’s attention was focused on the creature in the locker and he was still completely oblivious to all those hiding on top of them. The kids were extremely nervous right about now. Nervous sweat trickled down their already wet bodies. Had the darkness of the hallway not already concealed them, they surely would have been seen by now.

“So what do you say?” Gennaro continued. “Can I get a hand over here?” Baryonyx lifted his heavy claws out of the water, and in one fell swoop, tore off the door of Donny’s confined prison. The first thing the boy noticed was all the water rushing into his locker. “Hey, where did all this water…” and then he stopped talking when he realized that he was standing face to face with some kind of monster. “No. No! Noooooo!!!”

The sixteen kids watching (well, fifteen. Malcolm was unconscious) saw Donny get pulled out of his locker and ripped apart in the lengthy jaws of Baryonyx. Finally, while swallowing Donny’s various body parts, the dinosaur looked up and realized that the kids he had been hunting hadn’t gone anywhere at all. They were all around him!

Baryonyx roared in delight as looked around to survey how many of these delicious meals surrounded him. He snapped at Nash and Cooper who were closest by, but the two guys did their best to evade his chops. Sarah knew that they were doomed if nobody did anything. She looked around in search of some sort of hidden salvation.

That’s when she noticed the greatly dented door the dinghy had crashed into was marked ‘basement’ and that the flood water was rushing through the sPaces between it and the frame. Sarah looked back at Baryonyx trying to decide who he would eat first. She turned her attention to Ian, who still had the fire extinguisher stuck in his lap.

Baryonyx now attacked Al and El who held onto each other to afraid to move, but he was caught off guard by the final blast of that accursed fire extinguisher. He looked to the end of the hallway and saw the redheaded female human pointing the instrument of annoyance at him. His mind was made up. She would be the first to die.

“Sarah, what are you doing!?” Mandy yelled.

“Here Baryonyx, Baryonyx, Baryonyx!” Sarah yelled ignoring her.

“Are you insane, woman!?” Billy demanded to know.

But Sarah confidently called the dinosaur closer. “That’s right, big fellow! Have I got a surprise for you!” Sarah held on tight to the large cylinder and rammed it into the door next to her. In another step, Baryonyx would be on her. But one more hit was all she needed.

    “Clever girl.” Muldoon commented.

The aluminum door broke off it’s hinges and was forced down the stairs by the massive surge of water running down into the open basement. Likewise, the unwitting Baryonyx was swept off his feet and into the basement against his will. He grabbed onto the door frame and tried to pull himself back out, but a can of beans struck his head and sent him falling back into basement.

“Bullseye!” Eddie cried as he high fived Paul Kirby.
