    Super-Mod III (Part 4)
    By CastorTroy

In the living room of the underground base, Aragorn, now fully out of his Super-Mod attire, sits at the table, directly across from Shiva. Seth sits on the sofa nearby, hiding behind a gun that’s aimed at Shiva. Aragorn and Shiva both have glasses of water.

“My real name is AngelsPheonix,” Shiva began her story. “I was 18 when I first discovered my power to freeze things over with a layer of ice. I guess I should have suspected something long before then, as winter was always my favorite time of the year and I absolutely adored anything that was cold in temperature. Anyway, at the time I couldn’t really control my powers, and my family, growing scared of me, kicked me out of the house and told me never to come back. I wasn’t living in the streets long until a group of four other Ice Mutants – Three males and one female – found me and accepted me into their gang. No idea how they found me. Various reports probably.

“I was taught that my power feeds off coldness, and can magnify greatly in damage when I’m being powered by coldness. It’s something to do with the brainwaves in my head, but they really lost me at that part. They also taught me how to properly control it though, and each of them, like me, had been shunned by society due to their uniqueness, and had taken on new names to better suit their new lives. That’s when I picked Shiva as my new name.

“I was taught that theft and crime was the only way to obtain respect from people who would otherwise shun me. We worked like mercenaries, carrying out crimes for whatever crimelord or group paid us the most. During one of our crimes, someone was killed. A little girl. I quickly realized that this wasn’t the life that I wanted. I mean, breaking the law to survive is one thing, but killing innocent people is another. I ran away, but the other members of this group, which by the way, we called ourselves the Winterstorm Gang, quickly tracked me down and made me beg them to take me back.”

Seth by this point, had lowered the gun and sincerely said, “That’s horrible.”

“That’s not the worst of it,” Shiva said sadly. She continued, “It turns out they took on a job to steal some artifact from the bank here on Dan’s JP3 Page, a green jewel known as the Eye of SGD. To prove myself to them, so they could accept me once again, they gave me the mission and told me to handle it alone. And if I didn’t return with the jewel,” she looked right at Aragorn, “Which thanks to you, I didn’t, they said that they would kill my family and then come for me. Therein lies my problem.”

“Couldn’t have been a problem with an ant infestation,” Seth exclaimed. “Oh no, that would have been too easy.”

Aragorn glared at his friend, but then looked back at Shiva. “This jewel – the Eye of SGD – What’s the story on that?”

“No idea,” she replied. “We weren’t given the details, which is how the Winterstorm Gang normally does business. With no questions asked.”

    “Who are these other members?”

    ***

At the outskirts of Dan’s JP3 Page, four figures arrived at the top of a hill, all walking, overlooking Dan’s JP3 Page, bright moonlight shining down on them. There are three males and one female. The guy in the middle stepped ahead of the rest. He was in his early 30’s and had a thick white beard, and white hair.

“There’s Frostbite,” Shiva explained to Aragorn and Seth back in the base. “He’s the leader of the Winterstorm Gang, and has the same powers as me, only he’s much more trained in them. So much more powerful then me. Then there’s Chill…”

The female standing next to Frostbite was in her late 20’s. Her lips were covered in white lipstick, and her fingernails were polished white. Her entire skin was tainted light blue, as if she was choking to death, and her eyebrows were covered in a light layer of frost. “She’s easy to spot as she’s the only other girl in the group and her skin is permanently blue.”

    “Why’s that?” Aragorn asked.

“Her regular body temperature is far below that of a normal human’s. Just one touch from her is enough to sting someone with deep coldness, and the longer she touches them, the colder and closer to death they get. Oh, and If she kisses someone for longer then a few seconds, they freeze from the inside out.”

“So not girlfriend material then, huh?” Seth asked.

“Actually, her and Frostbite briefly dated for a short time.”

    “Oh.”

“Anyway, moving on, there’s Blizzard.” The tall skinny man next to Chill was in his late 20’s. He was wearing a black muscle shirt, with the name ‘Blizzard’ stenciled on it in an ice-like font. “He’s able to absorb heat from the surrounding area, thus causing the air to turn extremely cold. It gets cold enough, people will pass out. If he’s outside when he does this, it’s not uncommon for it to begin snowing, although the reasoning behind that is still unknown. At least that’s what they said to me. Other then me, he’s the newest member of the gang. And last but not least, there’s Snowman.”

On the other side of Frostbite was a young man, who looked absolutely normal and was dressed in normal clothes. Shiva continued her explanation, “At 19 years old, he’s the youngest of the members, so he’s often referred to as Little Brother instead of Snowman. He’s able to physically change his body to snow and ice at will, which allows him to survive and avoid many dangers that would otherwise have him dead, such as gun blasts and the such.”

Frostbite smiled as he looked down at the Site below. “Dan’s JP3 Page. The little bitch is here somewhere.”

    “What’s the plan?” Chill asked.

“The news said that security is going to be tightened at the bank. We need to deal with that soon, however we need to worry about Shiva first. Who knows what’s going on in that little girl’s head. But in the meantime, until we formulate a plan, I suggest we have a little ‘play time’.”

Blizzard laughed like a hyena, which got him odd looks from everyone else. Chill rolled her eyes. “Have we ever said how stupid you sound when you laugh?”

Blizzard felt hurt but that personal jab and frowned. “No.”

Chill returned a smile. “And we never will, even if it is true. We’re the only family each other’s got.” Blizzard smiled backed and laughed his hyena laugh again. The other members all laughed as well, but more normally.

They began heading down the hill and towards Dan’s JP3 Page.

    ***

Aragorn and Shiva still sat at the table in the living room of his base, however now Seth has also joined them at the table, having moved from his untrusting spot on the couch during Shiva’s story.

“So how worried do we have to be?” Aragorn asked.

“Very,” Shiva replied, fear oozing from her voice. “They’ve no doubt learned of my failure through the News and if they haven’t arrived here yet, then they’re on their way. Which equals bad news for this Site.”

Aragorn nodded his head, understanding. “In the morning I’ll swing by JPJunkee – he’s the Chief of Mods here – and fill him in on Winterstorm.”

    “What about me?”

“You can stay here for the time being. I’ll set up the couch for you.”

Shiva thanked Aragorn as he stood up to go set the couch up, but stopped when Shiva spoke again. “Hey Aragorn, can I ask you another question?”

He turned back to her. “Shoot.”

“More out of personal curiosity then anything,” she smiled shyly. “But don’t you find it hard to see out of those sunglasses at night?”

Aragorn chuckled. “I used to, back in my earlier days. That, mixed with my inexperience back then was the main reason I kept getting my ass handed to me. But when I brought Seth here in on everything, he invented sunglasses with a night vision mode in them. Works wonders.” He smiled and Shiva smiled back, lightly biting her bottom lip. Aragorn turned to go make the couch into a make-shift bed.

    ***

The Winterstorm Gang walked along the trail next to Wireless Pond, starlight reflecting off its surface. Snow lightly fell from the sky around them, and while the ground in front of them was perfectly fine, the ground behind them was covered in deep snow. The pond froze over as they walked past it, so the edge of the freezing part was wherever they currently were, and the pond continued to freeze onwards with every step they took.

As they walked through the Site, the Winterstorm Gang continued on with their freezing of Dan’s JP3 Page. They passed by the school, the school and its lawn having just been turned to ice, and was being covered in the thick falling snow, when three Mods cruisers screeched onto the scene, sirens blaring.

    Frostbite smiled. “About time.”

The Mods jumped out of their cars and knelt into firing positions as they raised their guns. “Freeze!”

“After you.” Frostbite raised both hands, palms outwards, and thick swirling white mist traveled from them and to two of the cruisers, instantly freezing them. The Mods opened fire, but Snowman sneered and jumped in front of Frostbite just as his body froze over. The bullets embedded into the ice, and when all have embedded into him, Snowman again changed, this time from ice to snow, and the various snowflakes along with the recently-lodged bullets, fall to the ground. Seconds later, the snow began to build up and form the figure of Snowman once again, and he returned to normal.

The Mods were left with confusion. “Oh what the hell is this…?” one of them asked out loud.

Chill walked around Frostbite and Snowman and up to the group of Mods. “This is Winterstorm,” she whispered. She reached the closest Mod, reached up, and pulled his head towards her. Their lips met, and the Mod, while surprised, seemed to enjoy it. That is, until his lips turned blue, quickly followed by the rest of his skin. His eyes bulged wide and Chill backed up. The Mod’s entire body started turning blue and he fell. In the few seconds it took for his body to hit the ground, he had completely frozen over, and when he hit the ground, he shattered into thousands of tiny pieces.

The remaining five Mods were all in a state of shock and fear. It was Blizzard’s turn to step forward. He raised his hands up into the sky, causing the air temperature to get even colder. The remaining Mods fought to keep their eyes open as the ridged coldness threatened to knock them unconscious. They tried to take aim at the gang, but was too hard concentrating on staying awake to truly aim. Two of them passed out and fell, but the other three stayed conscious.

“Just pass out already!” Blizzard shouted at them.

“May I?” Snowman asked, stepping over to Blizzard.

Blizzard smiled. “Go ahead, Little Brother.” Blizzard lowered his hands, but by this point the snow had started coming down even harder and thicker.

Snowman melted on the spot into a pile of snow, and he allowed himself to get blown by the wind towards the Mods that were slowly regaining their ground. When he reached one, he got lifted up by the wind and curled around the Mod’s leg, and then traveled up and went in through his nose. The Mod sneezed and stumbled around, dropping his gun and pawing at his head, screaming a very high-pitch scream. “Stop! Stop doing whatever you’re doing!”

The other remaining Mods, minus the one stumbling around and screaming, trained their guns on the gang once more.

Frostbite sighed, “Slow learners.” He held his hands out again, and again shot the swirling white mist out, but this time in a way so that instead of a narrow line, it expanded outwards and enveloped all of the remaining Mods, turning them to ice sculptures in seconds.

The eyes of the final Mod rolled up into his head and he fell to the snow, dead. A line of snow poured out of his nose and formed a pile, continuing to grow until it formed Snowman once again. “Looks like he had a case of brain-freeze.” He laughed his hyena laugh.

Frostbite held his arm out to Chill. “Let’s continue on with our Winter Wonderland walk.”

Chill locked her arm with his, and playfully batted her eyes. “Oh sweetie, you’re so romantic,” she replied jokingly. Blizzard laughed again as the gang continued on.

    ***

The following morning, Super-Mod sat on his motorcycle in the garage, helmet in his hands. Shiva sat behind him, helmet already on, bandaged arm free from any slings. Seth stood nearby.

“So what’s your plan for the day?” Seth asked.

“Warn JPJunkee about the Winterstorm Gang,” Super-Mod replied. “And then try to find out some information on that sniper.”

“So I shouldn’t expect you back for a few hours?”

    “Why are you asking?”

Seth smiled mischievously. “You’ll find out soon.”

Super-Mod gave Seth a weird look, but that was obscured as soon as Super-Mod put his helmet on. Shiva wrapped her arms around Super-Mod’s chest as he started the motorcycle up and zoomed out of the garage and down the tunnel.

    ***

While it stopped snowing outside long ago, most everything, including the windows to the Mod Precinct, was covered in deep snow. JPJunkee entered the building, wearing a thick fur winter coat, and shook snow off – Just in time to get a snowball to the face.

JPJunkee looked around and saw one of the On-Shift officers smiling. JPJunkee smiled back. “Enjoy the snow while you can, Ostromite.”

“Sorry Captain, but I couldn’t resist,” Ostromite replied, still smiling. “We used to get snow all the time back where I used to live, and my kids loved it. You can imagine our disappointed when we got posted here and discovered that it doesn’t snow.” He glanced out the window. “At least that’s what we were told.”

    “We don’t get snow here.”

Yvonne, the secretary, looked up at JPJunkee. “Hate to burst that bubble there, sir, but have you not looked outside?”

JPJunkee’s smiled faded. “Something’s wrong here. In case all of you have forgotten, even if by some small chance we were to get natural snowfall, don’t any of you think that it would happen in winter? Or have you all forgotten that it’s the middle of the summer?”

The bathroom door opened and Carnotaur3 walked out, zipping his pants up. “I assume you have a theory?”

“Shiva,” JPJunkee explained. “She displayed the ability to freeze objects. Who knows what other mysterious powers she may have. I doubt very much that it’s a coincidence that this Site finally sees winter for the first time in its history, just a couple days after a girl with the power to turn objects to ice, arrives.”

“So you think she’s doing this in retaliation to Super-Mod stopping her from robbing the bank?” Carnotaur3 asked.

    “It’s possible.”

“Sir?” Yvonne looked up from her desk again as JPJunkee looked at her. “Officer Yoda was just on the radio. He said that he found the missing officers. They’re dead. Over by the school. Some of them were turned to ice sculptures.”

JPJunkee looked back over at Carnotaur3. “I’d say we have all the evidence we need.”

“Want to go out and see what we can dig up?” Carnotaur3 wondered.

“You read my mind.” JPJunkee and Carnotaur3 headed back outside.

    ***

Super-Mod and Shiva drove down the highway, heading towards Dan’s JP3 Page. They drove up a steep incline, and screeched to a stop at the top. The Site of Dan’s JP3 Page laid below them, completely covered in snow except for a few random areas. There were a few buildings, mostly the tallest ones, that had been completely turned to ice.

“We’re too late! They’re already here!” Shiva gasped.

“We better hurry.” The motorcycle roared off again, heading down the hill.

    ***

Vito Hardy angrily stormed down the upper hall in the Order’s hideout and barged into Dark Element’s room, slamming the door open. Dark Element was sitting in a chair by a desk, various medical supplies laid out on the desk. Dark Element was in the process of stitching a cut on his own face by looking in a mirror. He had half the cut stitched and had been about to put the needle through again, when Vito Hardy had barged in.

Dark Element paid no attention to him and continued with his stitching, not even wincing when he put the needle through his skin.

“What on Earth do you call what you did last night?” Vito Hardy roared with anger. “Because I call that messy, not stealthy! We agreed you would remain virtually in the shadows and that is it! Not even a whisper of you! Now there are Mods all over the scene, and sure enough they’ll find something to link back to you, and thus back to us. You know why? Because they ALWAYS do! They have fucking forensics experts and shit. Explain yourself!”

“One hour left until payment is late,” Dark Element calmly informed Vito Hardy, who spat on the floor in Dark Element’s direction.

“You can be sure that Malcolm will hear about this and he will be none too happy. You’ll be lucky to get even a cent out of us!” Dark Element said nothing back. Vito Hardy huffed with frustration and went back out into the hall. He ran down the hall and turned off into Malcolm’s room, but came to a quick stop when he saw that it was empty.

“Malcolm?” he called out. “You here?” No answer. Vito Hardy turned back into the hall, just as another member of the Order exited his room. “Edgar, you know where Malcolm is?” The man shook his head and Vito Hardy turned and rushed down the hall. Two others appeared at the top of the steps.

“You two! Any idea where Malcolm is?”

They both shook their heads and one of them replied, “Nope, sorry bro.”

Vito Hardy looked around franticly, up and down the hall, while the others continued on. Where can he be?

    ***

Super-Mod and Shiva drove through the snow-filled Site, passing by tons of people enjoying themselves by having snowball fights, building snowforts, and skating on Wireless Pond. They also passed by a couple buildings that were now completely ice. Shiva spoke through a radio in her helmet. “I can feel my power’s strength multiplying more every minute.”

Super-Mod’s voice filled her helmet. “Hopefully that’ll come in handy if we come across them.”

“Even at my best, I’m no match for them,” she informed Super-Mod. Super-Mod didn’t reply back to that. He just concentrated on driving on the icy streets.

    ***

JPJunkee and Carnotaur3 arrived at the school crime scene, which already had a couple Mods milling around and inspecting the sculptures and area. As they crunched through the snow towards the ice figures, Carnotaur3 glanced at the frozen school.

“You know JPJunkee, if there is any evidence here, it’s probably buried under all this snow.”

JPJunkee inspected one of the sculptures, glaring right inside of it. “Has anyone found a way to defrost these yet?” he asked, ignoring his partner.

Carnotaur3 sighed sadly. “That would be impossible.” JPJunkee turned to look at Carnotaur3, shocked. “These officers weren’t incased in ice. They were turned to ice. You defrost them, they’ll just melt to a puddle.”

JPJunkee looked at the ground sadly, and then back at the figures. “Looks like I need to inform their families. Come on, I want to check out the other crime scene before we head back to the station.”

They started to turn away, but stopped and turned back as Super-Mod, with Shiva riding on the back of the motorcycle, slowed to a stop in the area. Super-Mod opened up his helmet visor. “Chief JPJunkee, I have some information that you…”

He stopped in mid-sentence when every Mod, including JPJunkee and Carnotaur3, drew their guns on him. “Super-Mod, you’re wanted for questioning in the massacre at Bish’s Convenience store late last night, as well as for the murder of Hunter2.0. That girl that is with you is wanted for attempted robbery, murder, and terrorism. Please step off the motorcycle slowly.”

Super-Mod made no move to do so. “I assure you from the very bottom of my heart and with every fiber of my being, that I had nothing to do with either of those things,” Super-Mod stated. “And that Shiva here had nothing to do with this apparent winter and assault on the Site’s buildings and your officers.”

“Either way, I still need to bring the two of you in for questioning.”

Shiva’s arms, which were around Super-Mod’s chest, tightened. “Not on your life,” Super-Mod said back. “In your mind, you already have us pegged as killers. We’re not going to be burned on a stake for your little witchhunt. I promise you, I’ll hand over your real culprits when I find them.”

“Super-Mod, you are not above the law!” JPJunkee shouted. “You have to abide by it just like…” He was cut off as Super-Mod loudly gunned his engine and sped away. The Mods, minus JPJunkee, opened fire, pelting the road all around the departing Super-Mod. A few bullets even ricocheted off the bike.

“Cease fire! Everyone stop firing!” JPJunkee ordered. Everyone did and Super-Mod got further away, disappearing around a corner far down the road.

“What do you think, Sir?” Carnotaur3 asked.

JPJunkee sighed. “Either Super-Mod really is telling the truth and we’re out of our league, or Dark-Mod is back.” (Note to the reader, since the upcoming Super-Mod: The Series will be taking place time-line-wise before Super-Mod 3, the origins of this Dark-Mod will be explained in that).

    “Dark-Mod?”

“Long story from before you were transferred here, Carnotaur3. Dark-Mod is…well just think of him as a very very bad version of Super-Mod. And if he’s back, then we’re out of our league.”

“So either way, we’re in trouble?”

JPJunkee slightly nodded. “Either way, we’re in trouble.”

    ***

Super-Mod drives down a street, weaving between the light traffic.

“So what’s the plan now?” Shiva asked.

“I need to go talk to someone,” Super-Mod replied. “If anyone in this town has any information on that sniper, and possibly the whereabouts of the Winterstorm Gang, it’ll be her.”

    “Who is she?"

“An old acquaintance I helped out once.”
