    CHAPTER 4: LECTER’S AWAKENING

    His thoughts were never this way; referring to the deep damp cold that engraved his mind. It was a brutal lust for blood that paved its way through his taste buds. Yet every sing time he had these cravings, he felt…

    Alive!

    The very instinct he was given had been dormant in him for years and years. He was a moralistic man at one time…but now, he was the monster that hid in the shadows, until the right time came. And it did come, and it came in a way that was very quick and forceful.
    Lecter recalled his first victim, a young grad student, who in fact, was very pretty. Her eyes, when he remembered, glistened in a very interesting way. They were a lush green, very unique in a person. Her lips were a glorious red, and her makeup was very well done. She had very long straight blond hair that reached to her mid-back.
    Inside, she was a dirty rotten thief, an ignoramus who complained and complained. She was the woman, for if you saw her on the streets and smiled, she’d give you the dirty look and pop you the birdie, a true sin taker to the max. She had possibly had sex…more than once…with other partners. She had probably had relations with an escaped convict.
    All these thoughts swirled around Lecter’s brain. If he had attempted to taste her…or gorge on her lusty flesh, would he being doing a favor…possibly towards God? Maybe. In fact, that might just be it. Would it be hard to do? What would he be doing? He’d be taking a life that could not be saved anyway…right.
    Hannibal remembered the beating of her heart after he had tied her up in his office and carried her to the trunk of his car. He remembered her mumbled screams for help as he slowly severed her arm off. He remembered her wide eyes as he feasted on that arm. He remembered that he had killed her on the night of January 16, 1974.
    For two years he had been free from conviction. The bones were safe…somewhere in his apartment and he grinned in spite of it all. All there was in the status of the 17 people he had murdered was “MISSING”. Nothing else was written down. Nothing else was found of them. Lecter had searched thousands of things that would lead to him. He had thought of the many possibilities that could make him a suspect. He had gone all over and fixed the problems.
    He would, though, be found out if he continued his escapades. He had plans of something else…of starting over new and that would be the way he could keep going.
    For Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the night he decided to go cannibalistic in 1974, was the day he was reawakened. He had found his purpose for life. He would divulge in human delicacies and at the same time, do God’s will in it. After all…what was the harm…it was his human nature.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Clanking sounds of beer bottles ringed through Billy’s ears as he ducked inside the covers.
    “No, I paid the rent five days ago, I know I did.” Said Grace with concern.
    “But the landlord says nothing came in, Grace!” Jon Shouted.
    “Ok,” protested Grace, “I think I’m packing up and leaving.”
    “No…no you don’t. You get back here, bitch.” He stuttered.
    “Your drunk and I want nothing to do with drunk men.”
    ”Oh, so this is how it is. Come on I can be sober for you. Shut the hell up and go pay the rent.”
    “I’m out of here.”
    From what Billy was hearing it was kind of good news for sure. Without her, his dad was wonderful. He wasn’t drunk all the time…he was just dad. But right now was not a good time to be around him. Sometimes his dad took out everything on him and Billy wanted no part in that. The little boy grew anxious and opened his vent door. The breeze of cold air seeped inside and he breathed it in.
    Very quietly he began to crawl through the ventilation system. He went no more than seven feet when he decided to look at the next apartment.
    Old Watson’s place! Mr. Watson was a car salesman who sold…well, pretty cheap cars. He was funny though, in that he always talked to where you couldn’t make out what he was saying. It seemed the only person that understood him at least one bit was his own wife. Mr. Watson was at least 92 years of age. So at times, he would forget what he’d say and repeat it like he had just thought to say it.
    His condition was growing worst each day…even though it was hilarious at times to Billy, the very thought of being in his shoes would scare him and make him be thankful for what he had.
    As Billy crossed to the next room, he foresaw to his right the hallway and Grace’s feet skimming to the elevator, her luggage dragging and scaring up the wooden floor. Billy smiled and returned back to the left to watch Mr. Johnson.
    Mr. Johnson was a young man who always sat lonely in his bright room. Sometimes he’d be studying for college, working out, playing some drums…but he was always alone. Billy felt sad for him.
    The next room was on the other side. Billy crawled from the side of his apartment to Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s apartment. He was excited to see what Dr. Lecter was doing. He was either working up math problems, reading books, listening to classical music, or…dragging a body?
    Billy stood still. He was shocked but not scared. Surely there was an explanation for what he was seeing. Surely he was watching him save a man. Maybe, just maybe the man had faited at his door…yeah, and he called 911 and is now doing CPR on him.
    He waited to see if what Hannibal was doing was anything of that but it became anything but that!
    Lecter opened the man’s eyes with his finger tips and put him into seat.
    “Mr. Spawlding, welcome to the neighborhood. May I make you dinner.” Dr. Lecter asked.
    The man giggled.
    “Yes please. What are we having?
    Billy sighed. The man was just tired and wants a warm meal. He was probably in the snow and wanted a place to stay.
    “Do you like necks, Mr. Spawlding?”
    Billy’s eyes grew wide as Hannibal flipped out a scalpel and sliced, so easily, the man’s neck. Blood poured out like a faucet. Billy covered his own mouth to stop himself from screaming out loud. The man was dead before he was even killed it. The boy felt nauseous and he fell backwards, hitting his head on the metal bottom. A soft click was heard and he quickly resumed position. Lecter had made a strange face after what had happened.
    Had he heard it? Billy was too frightened to worry about that and quickly moved backwards towards his own apartment.
