    PART 3

    CHAPTER 6: VISIT FROM THE SKY

    The sun beamed hot rays of ultraviolet waves. The very thing that was making Dr. Kristen’s skin to burn. She took the bottle of lotion and squeezed a glob of it into her hand. Then, with a smile, she placed the cool stuff on her arms and rubbed it till it was all absorbed into the skin.

    Dr. Kristen was sitting on the dirt, having a relaxing time while Dr. Baron sat in his chair, still kind of uncomfortable with the man who approached him earlier. He watched as most of his volunteer diggers loaded up their trucks for the end of the day.

    The good doctor looked at his watch.

    12:56 P.M.

    “They should be here any moment.” He said in a calm manner.

    “What about Anne and Kyle? Are they riding with us?”

    “I just called Mr. Palmer and a second chopper is picking them up at 2:00.”

    “Your still uptight about this aren’t you?” Dr. Kristen said, making her voice sound sweet as can be.

    “Yeah, and another thing, what’s with everybody hitting on you? That was the fourth time today.”

    “Don’t ask me.”

    “Well, it’s getting annoying.”

    “Doctor, are you jealous?”

    He cocked his eyebrow up. No way was he attracted to her. Yeah, she was beautiful with that perfect body and pretty face. She had great character and was so friendly. But surely, he was jealous. He didn’t need a girlfriend at this time. He was always to busy digging. But of course, she’s always around digging as well.

    “Jealous…Anything but that.”

    She smiled and laughed a little, and she pushed her hair back. A rush swept through Dr. Baron quickly. “What was that,” he thought, “Did I just get turned on?”

    “I remember when we first met. I was a graduate student from Harvard, and I decided to volunteer on a dig site. I was always fascinated with dinosaurs.”
    She recalled.

    “Most women aren’t” He snickered.

    “Well, I was. And I took that into consideration when I grew up. Remember I was running up to take a brush and you stopped me? I’ll never forget what you said to me after that.”

    Baron went blank.

    “What did I say?”

    “You said, ‘We have to dig first, sweetie’.”

    “Oh, yeah.”

    They laughed together for a while, but as the laughter faded, a new sound emerged. It was a helicopter and it was coming from the east, just over the rise.

    “You ready, Jane?” Baron asked.

    “Sure, why not!” Dr. Kristen assured him.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In the chopper, Dr. Baron and Dr. Kristen buckled up into their seats. The helicopter began to lift up. Baron grabbed a bar. He hated flying. He’d rather hang out in a car than this.
    Kristen was having a blast. She looked over as the trees past by in the window. Then, she heard a voice call to her and her companion.
    It was the, almost charming; but not quite enough, Greg Palmer.
    “Dr. Kristen, Dr. Baron, meet our hunter for the animals, James Colburn.” Greg commanded.
    Baron shook his hand. Kristen did the same. James Colburn wasn’t what you’d like to call stylish. He had a dark brown vest on, a white shirt underneath it, and light brown shorts. His hair was just there. No combing, it just seem to stay in place on its own. His face looked deep and his eyes made him look cool. He looked to be in his late 30s.
    “What animals do you hunt for this facility?” Baron questioned.
    “Herbivores. They’re the only kind out there. They are all smart buggers too. Once, I had one of them cornered with my jeep and it rammed his tail into the side of my vehicle. $3,000 worth of damage! It killed me. Fortunately, I didn’t have to pay for it.”
    Baron nodded at him, showing he understood. But what kind of animal could have done that with its tail? He would probably find out once he reached the facility.
    “Dr. Jane Kristen, I presume.” Colburn said. Kristen just smiled and pulled her hair back.
    Baron began to think again, “He’s hitting on her, I can tell. Gosh, it bugs the shit out of me. Well, I guess I wouldn’t blame him. But still, it annoys me so.”
    “I’ve heard a lot about you from Greg.” Coldburn ended.
    Then, something unexpected came out of Baron’s mouth.
    “Have you?” The way Dr. Baron put it, seemed as if he was agitated, as well as jealous.
    Kristen looked over at Baron. She smirked at him, then returned the favor at Greg.
    “How much has he told you about me?” Kristen asked curiously to James.
    “Oh that you’re just the nicest, and prettiest paleontologist around.” Colburn said.
    Kristen nodded with confusion.
    “What a nice…um…comment, Mr. Palmer.”
    Baron laughed out loud. He couldn’t keep it in. He waved his hand in the air.
    “It’s…ha…ha…it’s nothing. I’m sorry.” Baron stopped laughing.
    He went back to the window and started to watch the outside world pass by. Even though he hated flying, in it’s own way, it made him feel better about himself. Especially after the unexpected, and rude, laugh he had going there.
    “He’s a little odd at times. And so can you be, Mr. Palmer,” said Kristen.
    “But, aren’t we all.” Palmer added with the weirdest smile he could come up with.
    CHAPTER 7: THE BUS RIDE DISASTER
    Thump. Thump. The bus rocked back in forth and jumped each hump in the dirt road; spreading dust in it’s way into the open air. The thumps made Knox and Drinnan to jump out about a foot out of their seats. Suddenly, Joseph Con spoke up.
    “The sign isn’t far. I remember clearly where it was.” Joseph said.
    “Good,” said Knox.
    About that time, the bus began to slowly stop in its track. The thumps didn’t though.
    “Damn it, I forgot to put fuel in it today.” Joseph exclaimed.
    “Shh…What’s that,” asked Drinnan.
    The thumps continued, each second growing louder and closer. Knox’s mouth opened when he saw a foot plop right in front of the windshield of the bus. The foot looked scaly and bumpy, almost like lizard skin. Drinnan ran for the back of the bus. Knox couldn’t move. Joseph reached for the CB.
    Joseph kept looking at the creatures leg. Drool slopped on the windsheild, followed by a loud roarr and grunt. Suddenly, the foot kicked, sending the bus down a very steep summit. Rolling down, the three men tried frantically at grabbing on to something. They found themselves rolling like socks in a dryer. Small trees busted into the window, one came inches away from Drinnan’s face. Then, the bus stopped at the bottom of the hill, right on its side.
    “Everyone ok?” Knox said in a calm manner.
    Everyone gave thumps up, but they all looked to be battered pretty badly. Knox checked his head. There was blood dripping down, but he thought he’d be ok.
    Joseph pulled the lever at the driver’s side and the door immediately opened. He made himself crawl to the outside world.
    Out of no where, the foot returned, landing straight on Joseph’s chest; crushing his ribs and making him cough up loads of blood. Drinnan backed up from the door as he saw the gigantic body of a dinosaur. The skin it had was a dark green mixed with light green blotches. Its snout resembled a bulldog, horns protruded over each brow.
    The carnivore, he could tell by the long sharp teeth inside its mouth, roared with a terrifying grunt. It didn’t seem to notice the human under its foot who was barely alive at this point. Drinnan ran up to Knox.
    “Go back. In the back, now!” Drinnan yelled.
    The bus jolted backward towards a tree. Moments later it hit the tree, causing the two men to fall on the windows.
    The carnivorous dinosaur threw its body against the bus making another unexpected jolt. Knox looked over to the roof, which was to the right side of him.
    “Look, the emergency exit. Right there!” Knox said pointing at the door.
    “Let’s go,” insisted Drinnan.
    Drinnan unlatched the door quickly and, in a matter of minutes, were out of the bus. Knox ran for the dense jungle straight ahead, but Knox looked back at the dinosaur, which was right behind the bus eating at the bus’ underside. It was the same exact dinosaur Dr. Baron had shown him. But this one was way bigger.
    He looked over at Joseph. The guy was dead for sure. Drinnan ran back into the jungle when the dinosaur roared again. The dinosaur noticed him.
    “Oh, shit!” He yelled, running to catch up to Knox.
    Knox heard his cry behind him and yelled back to him as he caught up.
    “What is it?”
    “It saw me…It saw me!”
    They ran back up the steep summit, grabbing onto each tree for support. The thumping of the dinosaur faded as they reached the top of the hill again. Even though it seemed the creature was gone, they kept running on the trail.
    As they kept running, the last guttural sound was heard, yards away.
    CHAPTER 8: WELCOME TO THE NEXT JURASSIC PARK
    Dr. Baron became anxious when he saw the chopper descend onto a large platform. The platform wasn’t the thing that made him excited, it was the huge facility that was shown yards away from the platform.
    As soon as it had landed, the door had opened. A man in a gray T-shirt greeted him and his companion there.
    “Dr. Baron, Dr. Kristen, come on out and I’ll guide you to the facility.” The man called to them, as he helped them out of the chopper.
    Baron and Kristen shook his hand and followed him to the facility’s doors. Colburn and Greg were close behind. As they entered the twin doors, they saw before them, white walls made of, what it looked to be, plastic. It looked like a clean room, but they knew it wasn’t one. Many people dressed in the same gray shirts passed by them. They did manage to see some scientists going into other rooms, but they went quickly. They could tell they were from the white coats they had on.
    From up front, the two paleontologists heard the man speak up.
    “I’m John Bakker and I’ll be your tour guide for this evening. But dinner should be served before hand. I’m sure you both are starving after that two hour flight.”
    “We both haven’t had lunch so were ok with it,” said Baron.
    Kristen nodded. Greg got John’s attention and pointed over to a hall where there was a window. John acknowledged his decision, and guided the two toward it. He wasn’t going to try to direct them straight to it, but to just pass it on the way to the dining room.
    As they began to pass, Dr. Baron noticed something in the corner of his eye. It was something brownish. He made his eyes gaze through the hall and then, to the window. Outside was something he had never expected to see. It was a dinosaur! It had a slender crest that extended from the back of its head and outward. It had skin that was light brown and it was walking straight to the window. It walked and looked curiously, making each step and looking around in alert.
    It was a Parasaurlophus, a real living dinosaur. Kristen joined his awe gaze.
    “Oh, my God! This is…is real!” He said leaving a tear drop drip down from his eye.
    “It is…it…is!” Kristen couldn’t get out much of anything. She was speechless.
    From behind they heard Greg speak.
    “As real as it gets, doctors.”
    The Parasaurlophus came right up to the window as Baron put his hand up to the glass. The Parasaur jumped a little back, the came back up. Curious, it made the same gesture to Baron. Baron realized that it wasn’t that big. Maybe it was a youngster.
    “How… How can this be.” Baron said.
    “We’ll explain everything at dinner,” said John who was now leaving to the dinner room. “Come now.”
    Everyone followed him into the room.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Plates were being taken up after Baron and Kristen had eaten everything in sight. Baron leaned over to have a sip of his drink when Greg started to talk about how they had found the dinosaur.

    “It was amazing, we had found this living Triceratops in the jungle and it was in need of some medical help. I had my scientists ready for anything. After about ten young herbivores were found I decided to get someone to fund my research center and had the Costa Rican government give me permission to own a facility here. It was the best possible way.”

    “So, you just found them here, do you have any idea where they came from?” Kristen asked.

    “No, we found them here with no evidence of where else they were from. They couldn’t have come from the islands. Nublar has been blown up for…who knows when, and Sorna was bombed this year. It’s possible they could have come from Sorna, but then again, who could bring them here? We’ve heard about another secret facility somewhere out there, but many expeditions to find it have failed.”

    Greg stopped when he saw his leading scientist enter the dining room. It was Dr. Steven Kingsbury. His eyes looked dark and sagging, as if he hadn’t slept in days.

    “Ah, we have out main scientist. Dr. Kingsbury, these are our guests, and two more to come at that.” Said Greg.

    “Oh I was just coming in to see if you had any questions on our dinos.” Dr. Kingsbury said, almost like he was ignoring Greg.

    “That was a Parasaurlophus outside that window in the hall, right?” Baron asked.

    “Yes, that’s our Parasaur paddock. We have many of them.”

    “It looked young…”

    “Because it was. We have some problems with our dinosaurs. One is they are dying too quickly.”

    “How quickly?”

    “Two years or a little more, when in real life they could survive for 20 years. That Para is about 25 months old and the size of a punch buggy. She’s a cute one though, really smart and curious. We used to think this disorder in the dinosaurs were from a disease called DX.”

    “DX?” Asked Kristen.

    “Yes, DX. It’s a disease that was found to be on the island of Sorna. I’ve read many reports on it. But this isn’t from that. DX makes the dinosaurs get older at a rapid rate and then die. This thing ours have is genetic.”

    “Wait a second. Your saying they were genetically made this way,” asked Baron.

    “Oh, yeah. That’s a problem too. We won’t be able to get as much information on them as adults, because not many ever make it into adult hood.”

    Baron rubbed his chin. He wanted to say something about that carnotaurus he had found in the jungle really badly.

    “This is so magnificent. I’ve got to really give you a hand on this. After finding that Carnotaurus in Heredia…”

    Dr. Kingsbury cut him off, “Whoa, whoa… A carnotaurus? That can’t be, we don’t have any carnivores here.”

    “But I thought…”
    “Remember what I said in the chopper, Dr. Baron? We only have herbivores.” Colburn added.

    “Yeah, but I did find a dead carnotaurus in Heredia. Well, I didn’t find it, but a detective did. It was a dead carnivore. I can tell. I didn’t believe it at first, but it was.”

    “This can’t be. We have never found any carnivores around here.” Dr. Kingsbury said.

    “Whether it was a hoax or not, maybe we should be cautious about it. Thank goodness we have a perimeter fence around this area,” added John.

    “If it was real, I have good reason to believe that they are heading this way.” Kristen said.

    The room became quiet once again. The intercom above announced something that broke the silence.

    “The two other guests are just now arriving, Mr. Palmer.”
