    JURASSIC PARK IV
    COSTA RICA

A Novel by Carnotaur 3 and Spinoboy 11

    INTRODUCTION:

Isla Nublar, an island that is also know by many Costa Ricans to be “Cloud island”, is one of two islands to be infested by prehistoric creatures. But it was only 1999 that the Costa Rican government had bombed it to pieces. It was, indeed, a successful mission too. No dinosaur survived. The island seems to thriving again now, but not with the prehistoric creatures. The United States government was all for the bombing, scientists were bummed but not too sadden since another island remained.

With not enough money to spend to launch another bombing mission to Isla Sorna, the Costa Rican government simply had a fly-by everyday to make sure no one entered by boat or by plane. There have been many in the last few years to try to make it in. Not many were successful and none, except for two incidents back in 2001, hurt anybody.

Just when you think things couldn’t get worse, it turns out Costa Rican government lends a corporation called Biosyn a secret location in the jungle. The company payed them the money they needed, told them to never come by again, and said “Have a nice day”.

Costa Rican government has never been good with their decisions. Money seems to be the only important factor for them. Now, it seems a revolt against cloning and anything cloned, is forming up in Costa Rica. This group coming from the US!

Only a year ago they jumped at the government for not destroying the second island. The government says they had no money at the time. Now it becomes clear that they do. The group stands for another two months begging and revolting and raising cane, until finally, the government gives in. But it would cost a whole lot more this time around. More island, more money!

In the summer of 2002, the Costa Rican government sent out about 25 choppers with bombs galore to the island. In a matter of days, nothing was left but rotting wood.

2 days ago, rumors were being carried, by many Costa Rican villagers, about small, green, two-legged lizards running around the jungle. Some reports of large footprints in the ground. Some as large as 5 feet. No one can understand what’s going on. There are some around that won’t say a word about it, which becomes pretty strange to the people there. No one is suspected. There really isn’t much about the case at all. Many groups have searched the jungle but turned up nothing.

    PART 1

    PROLOGUE: IT ESCAPES

The sun beamed down on the two people down in the dark reaches of the Costa Rican jungle. James Colburn sat uncomfortably next to the, almost nervous, Greg Palmer. James is a game warden, hunter, and a good one at that. These two are waiting for some big cage to come forth out of the jungle. An empty paddock is waiting right behind the two. It was marked with a name.

    CARNOTAURUS PADDOCK

James met Greg on a hunt in Africa. Greg was the typical tycoon who wanted to get out and live life by going on some damn dangerous stunt or adventure, but Greg was a smart man, especially in science. He owned a couple of research centers in the U.S. and the one that they both were standing in. This one was different in all respects. Some what amazing.

The roar of the truck entered their ears. James smacked the gum in his mouth to annoy Greg.

“How many times have I told you to stop doing that?” Greg asked.

“Millions. That’s why I keep doing it,” said James with a smile on his face.

The cage came into view from the foliage. Greg breathed in hard.
“You know if word gets out about this we’ll be in deep shit. You signed a contract that prohibits you from putting the word out to the world and many of my leading scientists. You know I gave you this job because I felt sorry for you,” said Greg.

“Shit for brains. You hired me because I was the best of the best. If something bad happens I’m pulling the plug and telling. Many of your scientists will revolt against it, calling it another Jurassic Park and you’ll be left to kill it off.” James argued.

“And you’ll be left searching for another job. The money you get from someone else will put shame to what you get paid for here!”

James said not another word, but spit his gum out onto the muddy ground and got to his feet with his gun ready at hand. Through the leaves, the truck finally came into view. Then, it stopped.

A group of workers opened the paddock’s fence and then, ran off to the side, making chatter in Spanish.

“Ready, senior,” said one of the workers.

James motioned for the cage to be unloaded. The workers immediately ran to the truck and unloaded the cage. Each worker heaved doing so, knowing it weighed about 200 lbs.

In a matter of minutes, the cage was in the paddock and James was about to release the latch off of the cage when it started to rock.

It was trying to escape, this was clear. But it wouldn’t get out that easy. He readied his gun and lifted up the latch. The creature rammed the door opened and butted out of the cage like a freight train. It roared over the jungle loudly and was about to run after the humans when James fired the tranq.

The dinosaur fell to the ground in a deep sleep. James smirked, turned around, and waved to Greg.

    “She’s ok.” He yelled.

“She sure is young, do you think theirs a mother?” Greg questioned.

“Possibly, but I hope not. It might be that disease the doc is talking about.”

Suddenly, the carnivorous dinosaur leaped up from the ground and darted towards the fences’ gate so fast that he couldn’t even lift up a leg to run after it.

He fired again, but missed. The dinosaur ran off into the jungle, and James fell to the ground on his knees and yelled.

“You shit head, this isn’t the right dosage.”

    CHAPTER 1: DISAPPEARANCE

Joseph Con stood at the front of a restaurant, waiting for his last name to be announced. It was hot and dry near the beech, and not much of a breeze ever poured in. With not a cloud in sight, Joseph knew that he would have to get his fan from his car.

Taking a stroll down the road, he unlocked his vehicle with a push of a button. He opened the door and grasped the fan out of bag in the back seat. A little electric fan it was, and he needed it more than anything.

“Con party of two… Con party of two…” the bullhorn proclaimed, as he was just about to walk back to the front.

“Thank goodness they hired some Americans this time.” He muttered as he paced to the hostess.

From far up the road a bluish, old, rugged van drove very slowly down the road and into one of the parking spots. It was whom Joseph was waiting for. Someone to talk to. And this seemed very important at the time.

The man, in a straw hat, got out of his van and paced to the restaurant. He was holding up his hand above his eyes. He walked passed the hostess podium as a Mexican song started to play. Sitting down in his chair looking straight at Joseph, he asked with curiosity, “Who’s paying?”

“Ha, very funny,” Joseph muttered to him.

The hostess, a beautiful young lady, came up to both of the men. “What will it be to drink, boys?”

    “Coke!” the man exclaimed.

    “And you, sir?”

    “Same,” Joseph said.

“Alright, I’ll be back with your drinks.”

She left not even a bit in a hurry. Joseph leaned forward on the table, raised his eyebrow, and opened his mouth to speak.

“First off, I’d like to know who you are. Second, I’d like to know why you want me.”

“I’m Detective Drinnan, and I come to ask for your help in a disappearance. It took place about a month ago. Ronald Lopez.” The detective gave him a picture of Lopez.

Drinnan has been a detective for years now. He’s way ahead of his own work ethic. It’s very easy for this guy to solve a case. But this one stumped him. He had been up to the old jeep trail where he had heard the guy was dropped off. There were footprints but there was no sign of a struggle. The prints looked as if he had run off. Drinnan was about to wonder if this guy was going to tell the truth.

Joseph studied it for the longest time, then, placed it back down on the table.

“Never seen him before.” Joseph said in a calm manner.

“Are you sure? He was reported a month ago to be going on a bus up the old jeep trail. He was with your Safari group that you took up there.”

“Am I supposed to remember faces every time I do it?”

“You sure as hell should!” Detective Drinnan exclaimed.

“Look, all the Mexicans around here look the same. Alright.”

The detective calmed down. Then, he turned to him again.

“What was the safari group going for?” The detective asked with curiosity.

“Something about some animals out in the hidden parts of the jungle. Not much for me to get out of them. They wanted everything hush, hush, for the most part.” Joseph sat his hat down on the table and blew the fan in his face.

“Look, if there is anything that happened up there, I’d like to know.”

“All I know was that Lopez said he wanted to go out on his own, and he left. I tried to stop him, honestly. But he was gone.” Joseph saw the drinks coming.

“Now that I appreciate. That means a whole lot.”

After this, Detective Drinnan pulled up from his seat and was walking to the door when Joseph ask, “Are you not going to stay and drink with me?”

“I can’t waste my time at this moment. But thank you.”

And in an instant, the detective was gone. Joseph sat his coke down on the table. “Check please,” he said as he cut off his electric fan.

CHAPTER 2: DIGGING UP THE PAST

Dr. Sam Baron lay on the plains of grass, a field of dreams to the paleontologists working there. He was in his mid 30s and was not entirely bald, just some. His dig site always moved from place to place.

The field was surrounded by deep lush jungle and to the far left of the scientists were many trailers. The digging spot was located in Alajuela, Costa Rica, close to the Meseta Central.

Now, Dr. Baron gets up, wipes the dirt and grim of his face, and stares at the skull of a Carnotaurus sastrei, a Carnivorous dinosaur from the Cretaceous period. No other dinosaur was like it. It’s huge body and small bull-dog like head made it a very unique animal.

The good Dr. Baron looks over to his female assistant, Dr. Jane Kristen who was in her late 20s.

“The skull has abrasions on the top. Something must have rammed it to death,” Dr. Baron said, testing out his theory in his head.

“Possibly, but you have to wonder if he stumbled on something instead.” Dr. Kristen finally spoke up.

“Finally we have a good thinker here. What else does it suggest?”

“Possibly a struggle of some kind. Tried to defend itself or was attacking a triceratops when this wound was made.”

    “You sure?”

“All open to possibilities.” She smiled at him and he smiled back
    enthusiastically.

One of Dr. Baron’s diggers jumped up and wiped his face. He spoke with a question.

“How many Carnotaurs are around this area?” The student asked with great wonder.

“A bunch, I can tell you that. Costa Rica’s had many skeletons unearthed here. I suggest you look it up some time. It’s quite fascinating. Only they haven’t found a complete skeleton yet. Almost complete, it was, but not all.”

He looked over as a phone ring had ended. He must of missed a call. He could here a voice, but only slightly. No words could be interpreted.
“I want you to get that skull up carefully. You here?” He said as he headed over to his tent.

    “I hear!” She yelled.

Dr. Sam Baron is another renowned paleontologist. He worked closely with Jack Horner as well. Though he doesn’t believe most of his theories and conjectures, he mainly was there to dig.

He had been at the paleontologist school for 12 years before he went out on his own. He majored in this subject and he was not about to let that go. Neither will his love for dinosaurs. When he was young he had known most of the dinosaurs names. At the age of 15 he had started sneaking in on dig sites in Nevada to try to dig up some dinosaurs. It wasn’t long till someone found him and took him under his arm. Dr. Jonathan Hales.

Dr. Jonathan Hales was one of the best paleontologists in the face of the world. At least that was what Dr. Baron felt. He took him in and gave him the chance at paleontology. One of his philosophies was to never give up with out a fight. Which, what he meant by, was to keep digging till you find your pot of gold. In this case, it was dinosaur skeletons.

As soon as Dr. Baron left his sight, he heard the laughter of his companion enter his ear. She was such a bright woman, very pretty, and very energetic. Energetic is what this site needs.

Dr. Baron entered his tent and crossed over to the table in front of him. Punching a button on his message machine, he waited for an automatic voice to pop up.

The voice said, “You have 2 messages.”

“Just in 23 minutes?” He said to himself as he sat down his chair.

Another voice came, “Yes, this is Jeremy Cline, just wanted to say that you’re doing quite well with your site. I’ve watched your work excessively and I must say your great at it. We are willing to fund your dig site another year.”

    Beep.

The second came up pretty fast, “Hello, this is Detective Drinnan and I’ve found something that might interest you a great deal. Would you call me at 320-5569? This is my cell phone number and don’t worry, if I don’t pick up, I’m busy. But I doubt I’d be busy when I’ve found something very extraordinary. Thank you. I hope you call. Bye.”

    Beep.

    “You have no more messages.”

Dr. Baron leaped to the phone. It was another species of dinosaur. He felt it. He knew that the extraordinary thing was a new dinosaur. If not then he didn’t know what else it could be.

He dialed up the number that was given and immediately put the phone to his ear.

As the phone rang he heard the quick click of the phone being taken and then a voice he had just heard seconds before was heard.

“Hello? Detective Drinnan here.” The detective spoke up.

“Hello, this is Dr. Baron. You called about something great you found.” His fingers on the phone started to slip, as his palm became sweaty.

“Oh, yes, I’ll have to show you in private. How about at one of your facilities. It’s not to far off is it? Herdia?”

“Yes, not far, at most, 2 hours.”

“Well, then, I guess it’s a scientific date, is it?” Drinnan said with a chuckle.

“Looks like it, detective, looks like it.”

    “I’ll see you then, bye!”

Dr. Baron hung up the phone with excitement. He ran out of his tent and outside to Dr. Kristen.

“Jane!” He yelled with great energy and laughter.

    “Yes, Sam?” Dr. Kristen asked.

“Pack up the truck, were going to Heredia!”

He took up his case and threw it in the back of the truck bed.
