FADES TO:
JULY
INT. HOUSE – MORNING
Through the house, Dan was walking with a tray in his hands. On top were eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast. Everything to make your mouth water.
Dan walked up the staircase to the upper floor. His feet creaking on the stairs. Then, he entered the room.
INT. BEDROOM – MORNING
Gabby woke up almost immediately looking up at Dan with the tray of breakfast.
DAN How does it feel sleeping in our new home?
GABBY How does it feel? Feels wonderful.
He sat the tray down.
DAN How about breakfast? How does that feel?
GABBY I haven’t tried it yet.
Dan and Gabby smiled. After they chuckle a little, the phone rings.
He reaches over to the phone and picks it up.
DAN Hello? What? Know? Yeah, sure I’ll be right there.
He hung the phone up, going to the closet and getting out his close.
GABBY What is it this time?
DAN Gab, I can’t stay with you all day. It’s urgent. Something’s happening with one of the patients.
He pulls off his shirt and pants, and puts the new set on.
DAN (cont’d) But I swear, honey, I’ll take you to dinner tonight.
GABBY I understand.
Dan throws her a kiss in the air, she repeats it. Then, in a split second he was out the door.
INT. RESTAURANT – NIGHT
The waiter came to the table for the Henderson’s, stopping to take their order.
WAITER What will it be, missus?
GABBY I’ll take the, well… Can we have just a few more minutes?
WAITER Most certainly. Would you just want me to get you a drink?
GABBY That’ll be fine, I’ll have a glass of Chardonnay.
WAITER (Turning to Dan) And you, sir?
DAN Um… I’m not a wine drinker. Coke will be fine. WAITER As you wish, sir!
He left the table very fast and through the kitchen door.
Dan smiled at Gabby and looked at the menu.
GABBY I can’t get over my house.
DAN Me neither, honey.
Gabby’s smile faded as she though of something.
GABBY August marks the one-year anniversary of Jannie’s death.
Dan put his hands over his eyes.
DAN I could’ve gone all day without that being brought up. GABBY I’m sorry, but we have to visit her grave next month.
DAN NOT RIGHT NOW!
His eyes filled with tears.
DAN (cont’d) Just not now, honey.
Dan took the handkerchief out of his pocket and rubbed it across his eyes.
GABBY I’m sorry… I’m sorry.
FADE TO:
INT. BEDROOM – NIGHT
In the bed were Gabby and Dan. They were both looking up at the ceiling, their gaze almost in a trance.
DAN I’m gonna go chop some wood tomorrow with Tom in his backyard.
GABBY Ok.
Dan looked over to Gabby.
DAN What’s wrong?
GABBY I’m just tired that’s all.
She turned over to the other direction the bed on her side.
DAN Ok.
INT. BEDROOM – MIDNIGHT
They were both asleep in bed, in their own little dream world. It was midnight, very dark outside and the dogs of the neighborhood were barking furiously.
The house shook once, knocking them both out of their slumber.
He looked up to see the clock.
12:32 AM
He laid his head back down, but the house shook again, knocking them both out of their bed. They stood up to feel the shook rock back in forth. Objects were falling off the desk top drawers and the nightstand.
DAN WHAT IS THAT?
The house stopped shaking. The dogs stopped barking outside. All was quite.
INT. HOUSE – MIDNIGHT
The police were in the house, looking at all the things that had fallen from shelves and other places.
One cop was looming over the broken door that was off the hinges.
The police chief went up to the frightened couple.
CHIEF I’m sorry, but there were no calls about earthquakes and such. At least no one in this area.
DAN I don’t get it. What could’ve happened?
CHIEF As far as I’m concerned, maybe just some rare phenomenon. Of course, I have no clue on the matter. If it happens again, we’ll get you out of here and check on what the hell it is.
DAN Thanks.
The officer nodded and signaled for the rest of his men to follow him out the door.
Dan stood with Gabby at the door.
DAN Well, there’s one night that we won’t get much sleep on.
He exited into the kitchen.
