Hunter would not explain to me no matter what I did. He was hysterical. So I did the only thing that came to my mind. Putting both my hands on either side of his head, I concentrated and stared deep into his blood teary eyes.

My body jerked and convulsed as bright flashes streamed through my mind. I searched through Hunters memories of his family, memories of me. Then I found what Hunter had been raving about. The basement of my castle had a secret corridor. Hunter had shuffled through the corridor and stolen the golden globe of sacred blood. Without expecting it, he realized he was being followed wherever he went. He had sought out a hiding place, which happened to be the memorial home that he was now living in. He came to understand that they wouldn’t enter the house because of the humans.

I released him, throwing him down the staircase. Blood curdled in my head. My eyes were bloodshot and fangs were protruded.

“ You insolent fool!” My right hand smashed through the wall causing pieces to fly everywhere.

“ How could you? That blood belongs to no one! You brought a curse to mankind and did nothing to even try and fix it!!”

Hunter had stolen the sacred globe of blood that was entrusted only to me. Inside it held the blood of the very first vampire, the one who sired me, Bius. Demons had placed a curse in his blood three millennia’s ago. Every demon knew a vampires weak spot. Of course every living creature knew a vampires weak spot. The sunlight. We ached to see it but it turned us to ash. These demons had used that against us. They placed a curse that now allowed Bius to enter into the sun. However, the moment he did, mankind would cease to exist. Causing hell on earth. All demons, vampires and any other creatures of the night were free to roam the earth. No one would be able to stop them. Earth would be a burial ground for demons and vampires. All vampires would soon cease to exist, also, for they would have no blood to drink. Vampires cannot live off demon blood and no vampire can get close enough to another to drink another’s blood.

However, there was a second curse on the blood. It couldn’t be destroyed. If any creature destroyed the blood, all vampires would cease to exist, allowing mankind to thrive. So Bius had come to me for help three thousand years ago, and we had concocted a plan, which would allow Bius to die, but the blood would remain. Bius had told me the urge was too strong. He no longer had to run home when the moon had gone down. But he did for the sake of mankind. I grabbed a knife and we slit his wrists. Then we placed some sticks in the stick to stop him from healing. I grabbed the globe then and we filled it with his blood. I had cried that night. I had murdered my first true love, my creator.

Eventually Bius had died in my arms. His blood was not destroyed so both vampires and mankind continue to thrive.

Only a couple nights later I was visited by the main demon. He had warned me saying that all demons returned to their graves, nevertheless, the first vampire to drink the blood would be hunted down and killed by his clan. He threatened me saying we could not get away. I laughed then telling him that no vampire would ever drink that blood, so he was as good as dead. The demon had sneered then run off.

Vampires were the strongest living dead. Demons were like little kittens compared to us. However, most of them believed in voodoo and curses.

I was delighted though. Our plan had succeeded. The demons were returned to their graves, until some fool drank the blood. I hoped that would never happen. Although I knew it wasn’t impossible. The blood was powerful. Whichever vampire drank it would have power, strength, and the ability to hunt during the day. Bius had strong blood and the vampires power would be extended thrice times.

I stared down at Hunter. I was no longer mad, just hurt. I had trusted him, I told him my secrets and he had betrayed me.

“ You used me!” I yelled.

    He jumped to his feet.

“ Ambrosia, I didn’t use you! Don’t you understand? I couldn’t stay with you! What if they had gotten to me? They wold have murdered you too! I could never had survived your death!”

“ You stole the sacred blood,” I accused, “ That was not your blood to take! You have released the Demons who will have you killed! I could have taken care of myself! You had no right to make that decision on your own! You have endangered my life! Not just yours!”

    “ That’s why I left!”

“ I could have helped!” I turned away to stare at the star-filled sky. Despair washed over me.

“ Please tell me you haven’t drunk it all?”

“ Obviously or we wouldn’t be here!”

I turned in anger and struck him across the face. No one ever talked to me in that manner.

“ You idiot! Even if you did drink all the blood it’s not destroyed! You could have drunk it all and we’d still be here. Just the minute you died, vampires would cease to exist!”

He turned away, rubbing his cheek.

“ How much is left?” I asked.

“ Three quarters. Or there about.”

“ Good. We are going to go retrieve it.”

He looked at me, doubting this.

“ To destroy the demons, and fix your mess, we’ll need the blood.”

“ To destroy the demons,” he repeated, “ We can kill demons with our little finger.”

I turned away controlling my anger. When I turned to face him, he flinched.

“ You really are an idiot! Sure we can kill ten demons but tell me this, have you ever killed a hundred demons?”

    “ No.”

“ No. That’s right! And guess how many are after you now? A hundred!”

“ So we are going to take the blood into our veins? Are you sure about this?”

“ The blood is older, stronger. We’ll be unstoppable. I hope.”

    “ Right.” Hunter said.

I stared out at the sky again. It was calming. I turned to say something to Hunter, but behind me I saw a shadow move. I squinted my eyes. I saw an arm raise and my two hundred-year-old dagger flashed in the moonlight.

With one step I threw Hunter into the wall. The arm lowered and the dagger pierced my chest. I fall backwards onto the ground. Hunter scrambled over to me. Tears in his eyes. This seemed familiar, I chuckled to myself.

“ Ambrosia?” Pain coursed through my body.

I gave a slight shudder on the ground and then the world went black.
