Prelude to Darkness
The darkness creeps over us all. Why bother saving all those people? Maybe it’s fate. But there’s one thing that people do know. There’s always a hero whether he knows it or not. And perhaps he doesn’t know it.
“ Do you know where I can find a book on writing?” a girl asked the cashier at the local bookstore.
“ Yeah, its in the back under the category ‘The Craft’” the cashier answered. She smiled and said,
“ Thanks.” Drake sighed a bit. Another girl that was beautiful that he could not have.
“ Interesting how you did not ask her how she was doing?” a voice said. Drake turned to see a man standing near him. He wore a black leather trench coat that was covered with belts near the waist. He had a metal patch over his right eye that went down near his cheek.
“ Who are you?” asked Drake. The man glanced at him.
“ Just a man who knows your pain,” the man answered. Then the man walked out and disappeared. The girl walked up to him with the book she had been looking for.
“ That was freaky,” she said.
“ You can say that again,” said Drake as he glanced out toward the door. Then he turned to the girl.
“ I’m Chastity,” she said.
“ I’m Drake,” he replied.
“ Nice to meet you,” she said. She handed him the book. He rang it in and she paid. The girl then walked out of the building and away from his life. Down the hallway the man in the black trench coat walked into darkness, laughing.
