RETURN TO JURASSIC PARK: SPECIAL EDITION [CHAPTERS 1–5]
    Written by AlanGrant5

    INTRODUCTION:
As authors, we all have our beginnings... sadly, this was mine. I posted “Return to Jurassic Park” in the summer of 2001. The “Jurassic Park 3” craze was dying as the film had been in theaters for six days. I had been visiting Dan’s for months previous and registered in order to post a lil story in which I thought was kick-ass at the time. The plot isn’t what you’d call original or even believable for that matter, but, like “Jurassic Park 3” it was an action packed thrill ride, which many readers took a liking to. Rereading “RTJP”, I find it hard to believe how many people actually enjoyed this piece of fiction, but I guess times change, people change, as does taste in fan-fics. Anyway, I thought about rewriting it (something I plan on doing later on), but decided to post it, exactly the way it was written, to show you guys how far a writer can expand his talents... compare this to “[JP:TE] Completion”, and you’ll find that my writing techniques have changed drastically over a years time. At 15 years of age, I had failed to learn the “Copy-n-Paste” tactic, so I wrote each chapter without the use of spell check right in the area where you’re supposed to “paste” your fan-fic. Regardless of its simplicity, I am still proud of this, as it has some of the best action sequences out of all the fics I’ve written. So, without further adieu, here is my first ever fan-fic, “Return to Jurassic Park”:

    CHAPTER ONE –––

"Dr. Grant, I think you should take a look at this," Patrick Foster said catching his breath.
"What is it Patrick?" Grant said dropping his pencil on the desk.
    "It's an Allosaurus!"
"An Allosaurus... Your not screwing around with me are you, because if..."
"I ain't yanking your chain Alan. It's a goddamn Allosaurus. It's in perfect shape!"
Alan looked at Patrick and shot him a smile. "Let's take a look shall we," Grant said pushing Foster aside. Grant grew more and more excited with every step he planted in the Sante Fe, New Mexican sand.
"It's huge Alan. He might even be at least forty-five feet long," Foster said trailing behind Grant.
As Grant approached the top of the steep hill he saw it. Foster was right, the thing had to be at least forty feet long or more. He ran down the steep hill tripping over some rocks buried deep beneath the sand. He began walking fast, but his fast walk turned into a sprint. Grant started to slow down as he came closer to the prehistoric beast.
"Oh my God, this thing is huge," Grant said as he bent down to take a look at the late-Jurassic dino.
"You act like you've never seen an Allosaurus before Grant," said Foster.
"This is the first Allosaurus I've ever encountered in my entire career."
"You mean you never saw one of those at Jurassic Park?"
Suddenly Grant's smile turned into a frown. He slowly rose from his crouched position and stared at Foster. "So your one of those are you," Grant said in a deep voice.
"What do you mean, one of those?" Foster asked innocently.
"Listen to me, if you wanna see a dino up close that's your own damn business."
"What are you talking about Grant?" asked Foster.
"I'm not some type of goddamn tour guide," Grant yelled.
"I just thought you might of seen one on the island, that's all Grant I swear," Foster said a bit startled by Grant's outburst.
"Hey Dr. Grant, telephone," Eddie yelled at the top of the hill.
"Who is it?" Grant shouted back.
"A woman named Ellie Sattler Reinman," Eddie responded.
"Excuse me Patrick," Grant said nudging Foster out of his way. Patrick, still shocked, walked in the opposite direction, while Grant ran back towards the tent.
"Here you go," Eddie said handing Grant the phone.
"Thanks Eddie," Grant said picking up the phone.
    "Ellie is that you?"
    "Alan, thank God your there."
"Is everything okay? What's the matter?"
"Nothing serious. I need to ask you a huge favor."
    "Anything."
"Well Robert and I are taking a two day cruise to Costa Rica, to kind of patch things up and..."
"Costa Rica? Ellie that's too close to the islands. Way too close. Why don't you go to the Bahama's or to Hawaii or somewhere else other than Costa Rica?"
"Alan, he rented a boat and it's chartered to Costa Rica and I'd rather not argue with him, we've been doing too much of that lately. Are you gonna help or not?" Ellie said with a slight irritation in her voice.
"I'm just saying it could be dangerous to..."
"ALAN," said Ellie in her deepest tone of voice.
    "Okay."
"I can't find a babysitter for Brian or Mitchell and you’re the only one who knows them well enough to be with them for forty-eight hours. Can you do that for me Alan?"
"Of course I can. I'd love to. But I'm in New Mexico right now. When do I have to be there?"
"By tomorrow morning if possible," Ellie said desperately.
"By tomorrow? Well... ya of course I can. It's the least I can do after all you've done for me."
    "What do you mean?"
"For saving the Kirby's and I. I owe you my life."
"Alan, that was six years ago. I'm sure you would of done the same for me had the tables been turned."
"Right. Is your husband okay with me babysitting?"
"Well, he should be. He likes you a lot."
"I'm so sure. Are you sure he'll be okay with this?"
"Alan he'll be fine.Call me when you get to San Diego, okay?"
    "I will Ellie."
    "Thanks Alan, your the best."
    "Your most welcome."
    "Goodbye," Ellie said.
"Goodbye Ellie," Alan said hanging up the phone. "See you soon," Grant whispered to himself with a smile on his face.

    AUTHOR COMMENTARY:
Wow, can you say “No character development whatsoever,”? If there was ever a time I failed to use descriptions and flood a chapter with dialogue, it’s this one. Alan Grant is a little tender on the subject of Jurassic Park and after two visits on dinosaur infested islands, who wouldn’t be? Ellie and her husband are going through some marriage feuds, which is why they’re scheduling a trip to Costa Rica... too coincidental? You bet your ass it is. I struggled to find a way to get Alan and Ellie back on the island and I felt this would be the best way to do it.... AT THE TIME.

    CHAPTER 2 –––

As Alan was driving in his Ford pickup he kept on thinking of the dream he had had on his flight to San Diego. It was about him and Ellie. They both lived in a two story house and had three kids playing in the sprinklers on a hot summer's day. Grant knew he had a chance with Ellie and he blew it.But what Grant didn't know was what he felt for Ellie. He wasn't sure if he thought of her as a friend or as something more. It doesn't matter, Grant thought to himself, she's a married woman.
As Grant pulled up to the two story house he saw Robert putting bags into his black Lincoln Navigator. Robert looked at Grant and walked back into the house. Grant opened the door and exited his Ford which looked like low class peasant trash next to Robert's Lincoln Navigator. When Grant turned around and saw seven year old Mitchell playing with toy dinosaurs he smiled.
"Alan, your here," Ellie said giving him a hug.
"You look great," Grant said hugging back.
"I know, I mean thank you. Listen, let me see your list of things to do."
"Okay," Grant said pulling out a yellow pad of paper from his coat pocket.
Ellie skimmed the paper. "Everything looks good although I can't read some of your writing," she said laughing.
"Oh please, you could never read my writing."
"Your right. It looks like you wrote in Chinese or something." They both began to stare at each other, studying each others eyes.
"Hey, Dr. Grant how are ya?" Robert said shutting the door behind him.
"Roger, how are you doing?" Grant said with one of his fake smiles.
"It's Robert, not Roger," Robert quickly corrected him.
    "Oh, I'm sorry," Grant apologized.
"Well Ellie and I are gonna be just fine once were're out in the open sea," Robert said hugging Ellie.
It was funny, Robert only seemed to show love and affection when he felt threatened or jealous of another man. As he hugged Ellie, she looked at Grant and rolled her eyes.
"Alan, I'll introduce you to Mitchell," Ellie said taking Robert's arms off her waist.
"Honey, he's met Alan before and plus we're running a little bit late," Robert said pointing to his Rolex watch.
"It's all right Ellie. Go on and have a good time will ya," Alan said giving her one last hug.
    "Okay. Behave," Ellie said.
"I'm sure they will," Grant said reassuringly.
"I know THEY will. I was talking about YOU," Ellie said as she flashed him a smile. Grant let go of Ellie once he saw Robert sighing at the car door.
"Hey Dr. Grant, Robert said, You wanna give me a hug too?"
"I'm sorry Robert, but I don't swing that way."
"Wow, not only are you a paleontologist, your a comedian too! I'm shocked," Robert said as he shut the door to his fancy SUV.
"He's a little jealous," Ellie whispered.
    "A little?" Grant replied.
Ellie waved goodbye as the Navigator left the driveway.
"Make sure you feed them," Ellie yelled.
Grant nodded his head and waved goodbye until he could no longer see the car. When he turned around he saw Mitchell with a dinosaur in his hand.
"Hello there Mitchell, I'm Alan, remember?" Grant asked.
Avoiding his question the boy replied, "You know a lot about dinosers don'cha Alan?"
    "Well I suppose so Mitch."
"Then prove it," Mitchell said folding his arms.
"Well, that dinosaur right there is a tyrannosaurus rex, the most... one of the most biggest meat eaters to ever roam the planet," Grant said pointing to the dinosaur in the boy's hand.
"Wow, you sure are smart Mister Alan, the boys said. You wanna see my brother?"
"Sure I'd love to," Grant said holding the child's hand. It was clear to Grant that the boy didn't remember him. As Grant looked at the kid more closely he noticed he was quite ugly and that he must of gotten his looks from his father. As they both walked into the house he saw eleven year old Brian lying on the living room sofa playing his Gameboy.
"Hi Brian," Grant said extending his arm.
"Oh, hey Dr. Grant," Brian said with his eyes focused on the video game.
"Mister Alan," Mitchell said tugging on Grant's coat.
    "Yes," Grant replied.
"You said that the T-rex was ONE of the most biggest meat eaters, right?"
    "That's right."
    "What was the biggest?"
"Well the biggest to date is the Giganotosaurus. He was approximately forty-three feet long and eighteen feet high. He was the biggest of the meat-eaters."
"Gee, Alan, you don't seem as mean as my daddy said you were," Mitchell said.
"Really. What exactly did your daddy say about me?"
"He said you were a mean old dinosaur who ate children whenever they misbehave."
"Well you know your daddy is a dinosaur too."
"Really!" said the boy as his eyes widened.
"Oh ya. In fact your dad is one of the nastiest most vicious dinosaurs ever."
    "A t-rex?" Mitchell replied.
"No even worse," Grant said getting closer to the child's face.
    "A Giggysaurus?"
"No. Even worse!" Grant said lowering his voice.
"What could be worse than that?" the boy asked.
    "A LAWYER!" Grant whispered.
    The boy gasped.
"Now, who wants breakfast?" Grant said as he patted Mitchell's head.

    AUTHOR COMMENTARY:
Here is where my attempt at character development begins. I thought the chemistry between Robert and Grant was rather comical, but now that I read it, it comes off as a poorly written sitcom on the verge of cancellation. Anyway, Grant is stuck in a situation involving kids, which is always fun to see, as we know Alan isn’t quite the “family man”.

    CHAPTER 3 –––

After two days at Costa Rica, Ellie got back in the boat.
"Ellie, did you get everything from the hotel?" Robert asked.
    "Ya, I did," Ellie replied.
"Did you call to see how the kids are doing?"
"I know they're all right Rob," she said putting the bags in a storage compartment.
"Are you kidding me, Grant probably starved the kids to death," Robert said laughing.
"You know what Robert, this whole time you've been talking trash about Alan and I'm sick of it. He's doing the best he can for Christ's sake," Ellie said as her voice elevated.
"You know what fine. Your right, your absolutely right. Hell, you always are aren't you. I was joking around Ellie. Lighten up will ya. Jesus Christ!" Robert said climbing the ladder.
Ellie looked up at him and sighed.
"You better get inside, it looks like it's gonna rain," Robert said starting the engine.
"Fine," Ellie yelled slamming the door.
Ellie was furious. She decided she would wait in the room for him to apologize. As she threw herself on the bed she put on her headphones. Ellie began to cry herself to sleep.

THUD! Suddenly she woke up. She heard a loud noise, but wasn't sure what it was. Ellie looked at her watch. It was noon. She had slept for two hours. Ellie was tired of waiting for Robert to apologize. She got out of bed and opened the door.
She couldn't believe what she saw. There was blood all over the floor. Ellie's heart began to race.
    "Robert! Honey where are you?"
When she turned she saw that they had crashed on an island. As she climbed up the ladder she saw a puddle of blood.
"Oh God, Robert!" Ellie screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Robert honey, where are you!" Ellie screamed once again with tear filled eyes.
When Ellie turned around to go back into the room she saw the front of the door. There were hand prints on the door. The had prints were in blood, as if Robert were trying to get inside, but something had held him back.
Ellie was frightened. She was alone on an island and her husband, her only company, was dead. She couldn't believe it. She wouldn't. Suddenly there was a high pitched noise. More like a cry. It sounded like a dolphin, but bigger. Water began to drip on her. She turned around to see what it was.
A long neck rose from the depths of the ocean. The creatures neck was so long she couldn't see it's head.Ellie knew the creature was staring at her, although she couldn't see it's face because the sun was beaming off of it.
"Oh, Jesus, it can't be," she whispered to herself.
Deep down she knew what the creature was or at least had a pretty good idea of what it was, but she wouldn't admit it to herself. Ellie thought it was some type of plesiosaur, an Elasmosaurus. But it just couldn't be, they only existed in the Mesozoic Era, the late Cretaceous.
It was then Ellie realized where she was. She didn't want to make any sudden movements to startle the creature. Ellie slowly walked towards the room to get her cellphone. Then suddenly the creature's forty foot neck lunged towards her and suddenly found herself running towards the door.
Ellie got her backpack and realized she didn't have time to call for help, she had to get off the boat before the prehistoric reptile destroyed it. As Ellie was about to exit the boat by going through the window, the creature's massive force pushed the boat and flipped it over in one blow!
Suddenly Ellie found herself underwater. She was trapped in the boat. At the opposite window she saw the long, needle like teeth of the plesiosaur. Ellie swam for the window opposite the Elasmosaurus. She couldn't open it. Ellie saw the creature's huge head thrust through the door. She took a chair and broke the window. She was free! Ellie swam towards the shore of the forbidden island. She didn't have time to breathe, so she kept on swimming. When she reached the shore she turned to see the creature attack the boat. The Elasmosaurus' snout was stuck in the boat's doorway, but that didn't stop it from rising out of the water.
Ellie began to cry when she saw the beast completely destroy the boat. She was alone. On an island she knew was worse than death. Ellie was so confused. She knew what she had to do. She took out her cell phone which was fortunately undamaged. Ellie could barely read the numbers on the phone because of the tears flowing out of them. She dialed Alan's cell phone. Unfortunately, the phone died on the spot.
    "DAMN IT!" Ellie yelled.
Ellie knew she wasn't safe anywhere on the God forsaken island. All she knew is that she had to survive; for her kids. First thing is first, she thought to herself, I have to find an outlet to charge the phone.

Ellie had been walking in search for a building of some sort for an hour. For some reason though, she felt as if something were following her. As she was pushing through some foliage, she saw an object in the distance. A building covered in ivy. When Ellie made it out, she realized she wasn't on Site B, like she originally thought she was. It was the Visitor Center. She was on Isla Nublar; Jurassic Park!

    AUTHOR COMMENTARY:
Obviously I made this fan-fic disregarding the board room scene in “The Lost World”. You’ll find the explanation for the creatures still thriving a bit... far fetched and too simplistic, but it’s an explanation nonetheless. Here Ellie and Robert get into a fight regarding Alan Grant, so they naturally part from each other in an attempt to cool off. Robert steers the small yacht, while Ellie takes an hours worth of nap time, not knowing what’s going on by the time she awakens. My reasoning for that Elasmosaurus swimming around isn’t quite clear, but what I had intended to explain (which I didn’t in the fic) was that InGen had been experimenting on the underwater reptiles, with the majority of the creatures not surviving. So when they (employees, tourists) left the island, they left it as is, allowing the animals to escape from their holding quarters. Make sense? Well if it doesn’t... it probably doesn’t.

    CHAPTER 4 –––

Ellie looked around to see if it was safe and quickly ran straight for the Visitor Center. She tried to open the giant steel doors, but they were rusted shut.
"Shit!" Ellie yelled while trying to open the doors. Just as she had cursed she remembered the t-rex bursting into the Visitor Center and saving her, Grant and the two kids from the raptors. She ran to the other side of the Visitor Center and sure enough there was a giant hole in the wall surrounded by rubble and ivy.
Before she climbed into the building, Ellie remembered the screaming, the fear, and adventure she had wanted to forget. After standing still for a brief moment recalling her past, she climbed over the rubble and into the Visitor Center.
Everything was virtually the same, except for the fact that ferns, ivy and small trees were sprouting where ever there was a crack in the ground. The skeletons were still crushed from when the rex threw the raptor into it. The stair case leading down to the lobby was missing a few steps and wires that used to hold the dino skeletons together were still dangling from the ceiling.
Ellie knew she didn't have time to take a trip down memory and quickly climbed up the stairs. She was headed for the control room. Fortunately, she still remembered where that was. As she walked by it she saw a bullet hole in the glass, a window that was completely shattered, and a dented steel door from when the raptor tried to burst through it. She remembered her and Grant holding the door shut while Lex tried to get the power back on.
As Ellie pushed the door open, she immediately saw an outlet to charge her cellphone. She ran for it and plugged it in. Her cellphone beeped! It was on. She started to dial Allan's cellphone number.
"Please Alan answer it, please!" Ellie said as tears started to slowly drip down her face.
"Grant speaking," Alan said picking it up after the second ring.
"Alan! Oh, my God Alan!" Ellie took a deep breath and sucked up her tears.
    "Ellie is that you?"
"Yes. Alan, Robert is dead and I'm on this goddamn island all by myself."
"Ellie are you okay? What island are you on?"
"I'm on Isla Nublar, in the Visitor Center Alan! Hurry up and send somebody please," Ellie demanded.
"Ellie, you just stay there and don't move it'll be easier to find you if you just stay there and don't run off into the jungle okay? Ellie? Ellie are you there? ELLIE!" Alan screamed.
Ellie turned off the cellphone. She heard something. Something was walking on the stairs. A loud screech filled her with even more fear than she ever experienced before. She knew what it was. Ellie crawled under one of the desks. In front of her there was a mirror. She kept watching it until an object appeared. It was a velociraptor. The creature was behind her in the hallway, not yet in the control room.
Ellie knew she wasn't safe. It would find her sooner or later. Ellie looked to the left of her and saw a doorway leading into the hallway. Ellie ran for the hallway.
The raptor darted in her direction. Ellie ran straight for the first room that she saw; the raptor not too far behind. She opened and shut the steel door quickly. The raptor ran straight into the door, but couldn't barge through it.
Ellie began breathing heavily. The room was dark, she couldn't see a thing. But she did hear something. Chirping. Then she heard dozens of chirps coming from all directions. She guided her hand along the wall and ran her fingers past a switch. She flipped the switch upward. The light began to flicker, but in between the flickering of the light and the darkness she saw little dinosaurs jumping up and down. When the light finally stayed on she realized she had entered the nursery room. But this particular nursery room was turned into a nest. A nest for baby raptors.
She could barely see the floor because there were so many baby raptors. Unfortunately there were two adult raptors staring at her from across the room. Ellie glanced to the left of her and saw a stair case leading to the second level. She glanced back at the adult raptors. They were hissing and pushing their babies out of the way so they could walk. Soon enough the babies created an isle so their parents could catch their prey. Unfortunately that prey was Ellie.
While the other raptor was still trying to barge through the door, Ellie ran up the stairs. She immediately saw a ladder and used it to go into the vents. One of the raptors jumped and pushed the ladder away from Ellie, leaving her feet dangling from the ceiling. She quickly pulled herself up, just missing a ferocious bite from one of the jumping raptors. She crawled away as far as she could from where the nursery room was.
Ellie finally stopped catching her breath. She had probably crawled a safe distance from the raptors."Please Alan, Ellie whispered, please hurry."

    AUTHOR COMMENTARY:
This chapter was meant to generate some pessimism regarding Ellie’s survival. We all know she’ll live, but I still like to screw with readers heads. I thought the whole “Raptors in the Nursery” thing was kind of creepy. To have a light flicker, shedding light upon the lizards with rhythmic flashes of light, would scare the shit out of me... as to why the raptors are nursing IN DOORS, I haven’t the slightest idea, but remember, “They were smart, smarter than dolphins, whales... smarter than primates.” It’s obvious the creatures prefer a low rate motel rather than the comforts of the outdoors, so that’s the only explanation I have for that little tid bit. Will Ellie get off the island alive? Find out, on the next episode of “Return to Jurassic Park”.

    CHAPTER 5 –––

Alan was panicked. The kids were still asleep unaware that their father had been killed and their mother was struggling to survive.
"Jesus Christ, what do I do?" Alan said as he began walking back and forth in his bedroom.
"I can't call the police, they'll just tell me they can't do anything," Grant began to think aloud.
"I can't tell the kids what happened. They CAN'T know what happened. I know, I'll call Jack, he'll help me, I know he will," Grant grabbed his cellphone.
Jack was an old friend of Grant's. He was a man in his early fifties who worked at the Naval Air base in San Diego as a naval air pilot. If anyone could pull a few strings it was Jack Thornheart.
"Hello, is Jack Thornheart there this an emergency," Grant said hurrily.
"One moment please," the operator said.
As Grant was waiting, he grew more impatient by the second.
    "Jack here," Jack said politely.
    "Jack, it's Alan."
"What's wrong the operator said it was an emergency."
"It is. Ellie is stranded on the island. She said..."
"Wait. Ellie Sattler? How do you know this Alan?"
"She called me. Listen, you have to help me. I need to go help her, she's all alone on that island. Send some men over there, hell send the whole goddamn Navy, I don't care just do it fast!"
    "Why is she there Alan?"
"What does it matter Jack she's on Isla Nublar all by herself," Grant shouted.
"Hey, hey, hey. Alan you know this situation is out of my hands. Both of those islands are restricted, you know they won't let me send a rescue team just to save one life."
"Oh ya, well let me tell you something Jack, that ONE life means more to me than any on this planet. Please Jack. This is Ellie were're talking about here. I thought you were a friend, I thought I could rely on you. Am I wrong?" Grant pleaded.
"I would be breaking the law if I sent a rescue team out there Alan. I could go to jail or even lose my license!"
"Well you know what, Ellie could lose her LIFE! Her kids could lose the only mother they have ever known! Do this for me Jack. Do this for her kids. Please!"
Jack sighs deeply, taking a brief moment to think about the offer.
"Alright, Alan. This won't be easy."
"Thank you Jack. Oh God thank you," Grant said with a sense of relief.
"But, just how in the hell am I supposed to recruit people? How am I gonna convince them to save a life on that godforsaken island?"
"Listen, just tell them they will be paid a handsome amount of money. I'm not even completely sure if there are dinosaurs on that island. I don't see how they could still be alive, but I just can't take that chance Jack. I can't. She means too much to me to even take that chance."
"She really does mean a lot to you, doesn't she Alan?"
"More than you can ever imagine," Grant replied.
"Listen, I'll see if I can get a boat out on the docks. I have to lock up tonight anyways. Meet me at the San Diego Harbor near the bay at two o'clock in the morning. Hopefully you'll find me there with a boat and some men. I'm not promising anything to you Alan. I don't know how I'm gonna convince these people
    to go."
"Two o'clock. Jack that's eleven hours from now. That'll be too late. You gotta get there now!"
"Alan, if I leave now they'll ask me where I'm going and it won't make any sense on why I'm taking one of THEIR boats. What am I gonna say, 'I'm just gonna take this baby for a spin?' And not only that, I can't convince people to go to that island in five minutes. It's two o'clock or never Alan."
"Fine. Just make sure you gather enough weaponry."
"I thought you said there weren't any dinosaurs on that island?"
"I said I'm not completely sure. And like I said, I don't want to take the chance."
"Fine. And if everything goes according to plan, where are Ellie's kids gonna be?"
"I don't know yet. I'll figure out something, you just make sure we have some transportation, weapons, and at least a few people with some sort of intelligence, okay."
"Alright, but like I said. I'm not making any promises."
"Just hurry. Ellie's life is at stake."

    AUTHOR COMMENTARY:
I cringed reading this chapter. Having a friend who just so happens to work as a Naval Air pilot might have been a bit coincidental. But despite that, Jack is introduced and becomes a somewhat likable character once you get to know him. Alan is obviously worried and pissed that Ellie even gave thought to sailing around the Costa Rican area, but old feelings arise, putting him in a state of desperation, willing to do anything it takes to get her off the island. Should be a walk in the park... yea, just like the last three movies.
