Knowing there would be a third movie and he would not direct, Spielberg 'selfishly' (his word) put a dinos-on-the-mainland sequence into TLW.

    CHAPTER ONE: BEYOND THE FOG

Clouds loomed over the mysterious Isla Sorna, giving the island a somewhat forbidden look. Eric Kirby stared at the undulating waters hypnotically, thinking of all the creatures he would see while on the long awaited trip. The thought of dinosaurs still thriving on a remote island was both exciting and chilling, depending on how you looked at it. Either way, Eric couldn’t wait to see the prehistoric animals.

Two others accompanied Eric on the trip. The first man, Ben Larson, was his mothers first boyfriend since their divorce. Eric liked Ben, not that he didn’t like his own father, but Ben was more outgoing, while his father was the exact opposite. As to why his parents got a divorce, even Eric didn’t know, but he did know that his parents loved each other... just not in the way they used to.

Juan Marquez, a Hispanic male, most likely in his late thirties, was the man taking them to the forbidden island. For the past two years, Juan had been taking paying customers by boat, on a tour of Isla Sorna. Although never setting foot on the island, Juan had seen some amazing sights of prehistoric creatures roaming the coasts. He had started his own business and due to government laws, the tourists had to sign a confidentiality agreement, to assure his business would continue to work under secrecy, without the government’s knowledge of his illegal doings. With the money Ben Larson had given him, Juan was going to take them as close as they could get.

“We’re almost there,” Ben said, pointing to the fog covered island. Setting a hand held camera down onto the floor, Eric gazed excitedly at his destination. The anticipation was uncontrollable.

Juan smiled at the facial expressions the two of them made. “Make sure you have your camera ready... you never know what you might see!”

The boat was entering the interior of the island... something Juan had never done before. Usually he circled the island, but considering the amount of money given to him, it was only fair that his customers got a closer look. The fog was thick and made it difficult for Juan to see what lie ahead.

“We’ll go a little further into the island, but not too much!” Juan warned, the boat slowing its speed.

As they went deeper into the island, they could hear the chirping of birds, coming from the trees that surrounded them. Suddenly a flock of birds emerged from the fog and flew past them, as if they were disturbed by something. Eric was beginning to feel unsure of the trip, but kept the thought to himself. Ben waved his hand in front of his face, in an attempt to push the fog from his view, but failed. Just when Juan was about to call it quits, the fog began to dissolve and as it did so, a large object appeared. The boat came to a complete stop as the object came into view. It was a dinosaur and it stood in the middle of their path, drinking from the river. A single ray of sunlight shown on the creatures fin, which ran along its back. The creature, which stood well over sixteen feet, wasn’t aware of their presence.

“Jesus Christ,” Ben whispered, as he filmed the prehistoric creature just yards from their current position.

“I think we should go now,” Eric said tugging on Ben’s shirt.

“Shhh. Would you look at that thing... it’s huge,” Ben replied, removing Eric’s hand from his shoulder.

As they continued to watch the dinosaur with complete awe, a high pitched rhythmic beep broke the silence. The continuous beeping came from their cell phone.

“Turn it off,” Juan whispered strictly.

Ben set the camera down to floor and began searching for the phone. Eric joined and the both of them rampaged through their bags in a desperate search for the cell phone.

“Found it,” Eric said turning the phone off with great haste.

The creature whipped it’s crocodilian snout from the water it was buried in and stared at the boat. Juan looked back at Ben and Eric, then back at the creature. The massive lizard began to walk towards the boat, threatened by its presence. Juan restarted the engine and turned the boat around. The creature burst out into a run, giving chase to the boat.

“GET US THE HELL OUT OF HERE!” Ben yelled. The boat was gaining speed, but so was the immense dino. Soon enough the lizards snout came nudging up against the side of the boat. Ben pushed Eric to the other side of the boat, just as the creature snapped its massive jaws. Then, with a final blow, the lizard flipped the boat onto its side, with the tip of its snout. The group then found themselves underwater, with the boat on top of them. The muffled sound of the creatures roar could be heard from beneath the river, deafening their own screams. Eric and Ben swam away from the boat and headed for the coast. With the stomp of its foot, the lizard pushed the boat deeper into the ground, trapping Juan underneath it.

Ben and Eric crawled onto the shore, as the creature continued to thrash the boat to pieces. Grabbing Eric by the hand, Ben led Eric into the jungle, getting as far away from the monster as they possibly could. Stopping after a mad dash from the river, they both looked at each other breathlessly. Loud screams filled the air, both from the ominous lizard and Juan. They were stranded... stranded on the forbidden island of Isla Sorna.
