    GENESIS – Jurassic Park ///

    Complete Version – January 17, 2002

    ***The Search***

Three black SUV’s arrived on the same plain where the torosaurus had died the night previous. Alan, Rick, and Scott exited the first SUV, and breathed in the morning air that was slightly humid, though not as much as it was last night. A cool breeze traveled through the plain, causing the areas of long grass, and the palm trees that surrounded them to shake gently with each small gust that brushed against them. The high clouds obscured the sun shine that was supposed to be revealed. Not only did they have a gloomy morning ahead of them, but a thick fog covered most of the plain and what they could see of the jungle in the distance.

The S.T.F. members all gathered around, awaiting for Rick’s instructions. Rick cleared his throat and began to speak, “LISTEN UP! From what we were told, this facility is located five miles INTO the jungle. If you take a look around, you’ll notice that traveling by vehicle is NOT an option. There is no way one of our SUV’s will be able to make it into all that foliage, so we’ll be takin’ this five mile trip by foot... we have no other choice. I am advising that you be careful and that you DON’T wander off from the group! If you do, I won’t be sending off a search party to find you... GOT IT?”

They all nodded their heads in agreement.

“Good. Now if we keep at a steady pace AND we keep our eyes open, there is a good chance we’ll finish this case by the end of the day... let’s move out!” Rick concluded walking towards the jungle. All fifteen S.T.F. members followed Rick without hesitation.

“I have a question,” Alan said walking beside Rick.

    “What’s that?” Rick responded.

“If we should run into trouble... large or small, what exactly do we have that’ll make us just a bit more... secure?”

“I doubt we’ll run into trouble, but if we SHOULD... Scott has the flame thrower and a two machine guns.”

“Really? Do you realize that there are sixteen of us? Where’s OUR protection?”

“Don’t get your panties in a bunch Dr. Grant... if anything should happen that artillery alone will be able to take out... well anything,” Rick replied pushing shrubbery out of his face.

Grant shook his head and continued to walk. The group stayed in a cluster as they were told to, and searched for the abandoned facility... Site C. It seemed as if they were going down one long slope. This facility was buried deep in the jungle and for a good reason. Vines hung from the tree tops, creating somewhat of an obstacle course. There were trees snapped in two and very little light filtered into the jungle due to its thickness. Alan saw a spider monkey crawling up a tree in a quick fashion, possibly due to the sixteen of them entering its territory, but it was most likely due to the creatures that followed them. The raptors were following them, but were thinking of how they should approach their attack. There were too many humans to take on compared to their pack of seven. The raptors were hunting and were planning their line of attack, as if they were playing a game of checkers and being extremely careful as to what their next move might be. They traveled along a hill side gazing down at the humans below.

As Scott climbed over a log, he noticed a rock slide down a somewhat steep escarpment, a few feet from his current position. He looked up and saw nothing.

In the span of forty five minutes, their search for the facility was still at the same status. Many of them were beginning to get tired, and the humidity was starting to kick in. All of them felt as if they had been walking for days. No conversations were carried throughout the trip until a distinct noise was heard, coming from the escarpment that stretched along side of them.

“What the hell was that?” Scott asked stopping suddenly.

The whole group came to a stop and studied their surroundings. Alan listened closely and heard chirps coming from all sides of them. It was as if creatures were whispering to each other, trying to keep their conversation from being heard by the humans. Alan recognized the chirps immediately and his spine began to tingle. The chirps were slowly turning into growls, causing everyone to become scared and confused as to where the sounds were coming from. Then the foliage around them began to shake and rocks began to fall from the escarpment that lied next to them. Scott pulled out a machine gun, listening for the eerie sounds, but they stopped.

“Let’s move on,” Scott said, pointing forward with the machine gun. All of them were a bit shaken up, but listened to Scott nonetheless. Then, suddenly, without any warning, creatures began to leap from the escarpment and onto the group. Screams of terror filled the jungle as the raptors began to tear through the flesh of unarmed men. Scott quickly drew out the machine gun and fired at the increasing number of raptors. Alan pulled on his shoulder, gesticulating for him to run. The attack had only been going on for thirty seconds and already five people were dead, not to mention the six others that were injured. Some of them were holding on to their spilled guts and were trying to stuff them back in... they too would die of their injuries.

Alan, Scott, Rick, Chris, and Michael all darted off, heading for a building surrounded by a barb wire fence. Three raptors were giving chase, not gaining the amount of speed they might have gained if in an open field. The five of them opened the gate and shut it quickly, with the raptors slamming into it. The group then struggled to open a rusted metal door, but once they did, it became just as easy to close than it did to open. Alan stared out the window and watched the raptors pulling off the gate door, with their jaws.

“Jesus Christ,” Scott repeated breathing heavily.

Alan saw another door at the end of the facility and saw a raptor heading for the door, through a window.

“It’s heading for the other door!” Alan yelled running over to it, with Rick and Scott behind him. Before Alan could lock it, a raptors snout appeared pushing the door backwards into the corner of a wall. The raptor snarled at them, looking through a circular window on the door.

“PUSH!” Rick yelled. The three of them pushed the door back into the barb wire fence and slid the lock into one of the holes in the fence, locking the door in place, with the raptor trapped on the other side. As Alan sighed he noticed another raptor outside the compound, looking at them. They couldn’t close the door because they would release the other raptor behind it, and if they didn’t close the door the other raptor would be able to get inside the facility. The raptor hissed and began to charge, causing Alan and the others to run back inside. Just as they did, they found another raptor ripping the flesh off of Cooper... that raptor had gotten through the front door.

    “Shit,” Scott whispered.

“That artillery might come in handy right about now,” Alan whispered.

“It would if I had it... I dropped the bag outside,” Scott replied.

Alan shook his head back and forth. The group of three moved into the center of the room, while the other raptor came from their left and the other, with flesh hanging from its mouth came from the front. Rick looked behind them and noticed a narrow path way that looked like it lead to an elevator.

“Back,” Rick whispered. They all quickly ran back into the long hallway of cages, throwing the cage doors behind them, to block the raptors from their path. Sure enough the raptors crashed into the cage doors, giving them time to escape. Alan pressed the button for the elevator continuously, looking back at the raptors that laid on the floor, trying to get up.

The elevator door opened and the three jumped into it as quickly as possible. Waiting for the doors to shut, one raptor finally got up and began to charge the open elevator. The doors were slowly beginning to close, when the raptors snout held the two doors from closing. Alan kicked its snout twice before it snapped its head back, allowing the doors to close. Alan fell back, exhausted of the fight. The others began to sigh with relief, leaning against the elevator wall.

When the doors finally opened, it revealed a large white room, overlooking an indoor environment. Alan stepped out first, then the others. In the corner of the white room was Michael... holding his spilled intestines with both hands.
