According to Matt Boudreau , the new LW trailer will be on Entertainment Tonight this evening! Everyone get your VCR ready!!!!!
Look for JP2 billboards soon, according to Dinoman. A few people putting up billboards said that JP2 ones would start to appear next week. Remember the JP billboards? It was just the JP logo with the release date--no one knew what the heck "Jurassic Park" was, which made it really cool.
"D-Man" was lucky enough to have seen some exclusive JP2 photos. Here are his descriptions (phara-phrased):
A press release by the San Diego History Museum confirms the fact (for the fifth time) that dinosaurs will be rampaging on the mainland (thanks to Max Szoc)
"We're going to be part of a dinomania this summer, and if San Diego is part of "The Lost World," it can only get better," said Dr. Michael Hager, the Museum's executive director. "Rumor has it, San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter is going to be ravaged by dinosaurs in the film. We're expecting to be ravaged by visitors -- that's a much more pleasant prospect."
"The Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park: The Exhibit" comes to the San Diego Natural History Museum, May 24 through September 2. The Museum is open 9 a.m. to 6 pm. Admission is $7 for adults; $6 for seniors and active-duty military; $5 for children ages 3-17, children under age 3 are free.
Maarten Kraaijvanger let me know that the release date in the Netherlands would actually be September 25th, not the 23rd, since supposedly all movies come out on thursdays there.
William Hooper, a sound editor working at Universal provided some info on JP2, although he says he doesn't know much because "it's [probably] being done up north with some of the Bay area sound editors associated with Lucasfilm". He does, however, say that large sets were "built on stage 12 and outside the 488 parking structure...The set beside the 488 building was a cliff scene with a bus hanging over the side. It took them over a month to build it and several nights to shoot. Stage 12, right across the street from my cutting room had a huge set with rocks, forest, etc, which also took weeks to construct. They shot for a few weeks, tore that down and constructed another set matching an exterior set at the other end of the studio."
Some more info on the General Mills LW contest: Look for boxes of Total, all the flavors of Cheerios, and Basic 4 with special Lost World covers. The odds of winning the top prize (A trip to New Zealand and Australia for up to 8 people and up to 24,000 dollars cash) is one in 159 million. Other prizes include JP2 walkey-talkies, binoculars, and water bottles. (thanks to Dinoman and Rick Granston)
Announcing the Jurassic Park/Lost World Chat Network! The chat room is now linked to another JP2 site, Gatsby's LW Page. What we hope to do with this network is to link the chat to as many pages as possible, to insure that people will always be in the room, ready to chat! If you run a Lost World or Jurassic Park-related page, be sure to e-mail me for info on how to become part of the JP/LW Chat Network.
Don't forget to vote!
This week's poll: After last night's very disappointing Academy Awards (I liked what Andrew Lloyd Webber said when he was accepting the Oscar for best song: "Gee...I'm glad that 'The English Patient' didn't have a song in it"), I want to know what movie you think should have won! This is more of a "favorite movie" poll, because I also included several popular movies of last year, such as Twister (my favorite), and Independence Day. Anyway, click here and let your opinion be known! On to the news...
According to an e-mail from Universal sent to James Bouquet, the trailer will be available on the official LW site on April 4th, the same day that it comes out in theaters.
Phillip McLaughlin reports that a demo of the Playstation JP2 game is included on a Sony demo disc which you can most likely find at your local mall video game store.
The system requirements for the upcoming JP2 game for the PC, Trespasser: Jurassic Park are reportedly going to be pretty steep, according to an e-mail sent to Dinoman by the Dreamworks people:
A few comments about the page.....If you are still getting the "60 Days..." teaser from yesterday, you need to clear your file cache. In Netscape, go to "Options", "Network", "Cache", then "Clear Disk Cache". Also, I have installed a new JavaChat which I think is much better than the old system. Try it out here. And if you don't have Java support, feel free to use the HTML chat room.
Tonight's Oscar Night©!! (did you know that the Academy copyrighted the phrase "Oscar Night"? Yes!) Unfortunately, "The English Patient" is going to win (I slept through 3/4ths of it). The only movie nominated that I would even consider giving the award to is "Shine". I almost walked out of "Fargo", "Jerry Maguire" was just "okay", and no one I know has seen "Secrets and Lies" (including me). The only other category I really care about is Special Effects. I really hope "Dragonheart" wins simply because the effects were so amazing. My prediction: "Twister".
Tomorrow: A new poll....I'm not going to give it away, but let's just say that it's going to have to do something with the Academy Awards : ) Well, there's a heck load of news today, so here we go:
According to Kyle the JP2 comic books will arrive on the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday in May. He's also volunteering on scanning pictures of those as well as the official magazine : )
A few JP2 products have been spotted. Besides the Cheerios (mentioned yesterday), Benjamin John saw the JP2 band-aids and Ed Hall has spotted the Betty Crocker Brownie Mix.
Curtis Bouquet has received word from Universal that the official site will next be updated on April 4th. He also adds that the update will include "clips (maybe the new trailer), new characters, and pictures from the movie"
Coincidentally, the next Universal movie, "That Old Feeling" comes out on April 4th! However, I refuse to see it, even if there is a JP2 trailer before it (Bette Midler makes me barf). Hopefully they'll show the trailer before other movies, or I'd have to wait for "McHales Navy" on April 18th.
Max Szoc has provided another release date: Look for JP2 in Argentina on June 26th, 1997.
I scanned in a picture of my official JP2 movie poster which is hanging in my room. You can most likely get your own at your local SunCoast Picture Company, or from several poster dealers on the Internet. I'll have a list soon.
The people in this picture are actually Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Vince Vaughn and Richard Shiff (as Eddie Carr), according to Entertainment Weekly (thanks to Rory Payne)
The main pages have been updated (3-24).
Another tid-bit about JP2 in this weeks' edition of Entertainment Weekly Magazine (thanks to Kurt Roberts)
Dinoman reports that the JP2 video may come out as early as late November / early December and will come with a smaller version of the hologram poster that has been spotted in some theaters.
There will definitely be a scene in JP2 where "the main characters are in a convenience store and are attacked by a chameleon-like dinosaur." (Thanks to Rory Payne)
Some excerpts from the article on the JP2 Playstation game from this month's GamePro Magazine (Thanks to Brian)
The game starts you out playing as a Compsognathus. Exploring the first level as a Compy, you will encounter dangers like steep cliffs, predators, and human intruders. As the level ends, you face a human hunter in a life-or-death showdown. If you successfully complete the level, you morph into the hunter and play as him until you meet the Velociraptors at the end of the next level. You then morph into the Raptor, and you continue to morph into other dinos after each level until the end of the game when you become the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex.
To enable players to really interact in this world, the game's designers took a novel approach. They meticulously studied movement, much like traditional animators, but without an original source for the extinct dinos, the going was tough. Game designer Matt Brown recalls, "We watched an employee run for the bus one day. He wore his backpack low, and as he charged for the bus, we got the idea that maybe that's what the tail weight on a T. rex must look and feel like. We videotaped him and studied the movements. Then we drew on a whole wealth of written knowledge before we came up with the realistic T. rex movements in the game."
The visual result is a whole range of realistic dinos. You'll see everything from slashing and clawing Compys who roll on their backs, bob their heads, and scurry through the levels to the loping, cunning movements of the T. rex, who snaps, rolls, and lunges so realistically, you'll cringe.
The new Jurassic Park dinosaurs come roaring onto the PlayStation in June.
Well, after a few requests, I have decided to add a Java Chat Room to the page. Hope everyone likes it. If there is no one there when you go in, you might try waiting around for a few minutes.
