Well, I've received about half-a-dozen reports that the new Lost World trailer was not shown before Liar, Liar as was rumored. Who knows what happened? Maybe Universal pulled it at the last minute to make changes.. Dustin, a theater manager, says that they never got it. Anyway, the official word from Universal is that the trailer will appear in theaters and on the website in "early April". I'm guessing that means that it will be shown before McHale's Navy starring Tom Arnold. (Thanks to Wiserman, Paul Gangnes, and Dan Worthington among others)

Liar, Liar was sold out last night, so I saw Return of the Jedi instead...it was awesome--the new ending simply rocks. ROTJ is definitely my favorite Star Wars movie now....

Chris Baker has some more info on the special Lost World Cereals in stores now. He says that the different Cheerios cereals (Honey Nut, Original, Muti-Grain, and Apple-Cinnamon) have the "roaring box" contest where you can win a 14 day trip for up to eight people to New Zealand and Australia. "You could also win a Lost-World backpack with a water-bottle, binoculars, and some walkie-talkies." The water-bottle has the LW logo with a big Raptor on the top pushing leaves away. "To order the bottle, you need the order form and a check or money-order for $5.50 made payable to General Mills"

GamePro magazine reportedly has an article on the upcoming Lost World Playstation game. There is also a little article about the movie--"cinematographer Janusz Kaminiski says he has managed to transfer the dark, dismal atmosphere of an island full of predators to the big screen." Unfortunately I've received several disappointing reports that the new JP2 trailer was not shown before the new Universal movie Liar, Liar. Now I don't know if this means that the trailer wasn't shipped or that some theaters have it--hopefully I'll receive more reports later tonight. Also, the trailer hasn't appeared on the LW site yet--if it was there, I'm guessing that it would be in the this directory.

This week's Entertainment Weekly ("Top 10 commercials") has a short blurb about JP2:

"THE LOST WORLD (Universal, May 23) Spielberg and company have taken a number of liberties with Michael Crichton's best-seller. Picking up six years from where Jurassic left off, a group of trigger-happy businessmen grease a few scientists' palms to clone T.rexes and velociraptors for big-game hunting in California. Naturally, things go awry and the rampaging reptiles make mincemeat out of (ye gods!) San Diego." Thanks to Wiserman and Scott Mckenzie for letting me know.

If you still don't believe that dinosaurs will be running around in San Diego near the end of the film, Bill Magee reports that some friends of his were extras in a scene where "they sat on a bench and watched a bus flip over with people flying out of it."

Here's some excerpts from this month's issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly: (Thanks to BiffFoil)

This ambitious action game has players taking on the roles of five different characters: a compsognathus ("compy" for short, a chicken-size predator that will appear in the new movie in herds of hundreds), a velociraptor (a "raptor," seen in the first movie), a tyrannosaurus rex ("T-rex"-you know what they are), and a couple of humans (like you and me, except armed with nerve gas, tazers and incendiary grenades). You will take these characters through 24 different environments and battle the carnivorous inhabitants of The Lost World."

Robert, a movie reviewer for a newspaper, saw an adavanced preview for "Liar, Liar" last night. Unfortunatly, the new, longer JP2 trailer was not shown, but he adds: "After the promo I spoke with a woman from Universal who told me that the trailer SHOULD be ready by Friday and will be shipped seperately...she also told me that in press kits she's read, the trailer will be 2 minutes and 15 seconds and will feature MUCH CGI effects!". He also adds that "Liar,Liar" was "hilarious".

To confirm that, Kartik got an e-mail from Universal that said the the trailer would indeed be shown before "Liar, Liar", and it would be posted on their website "around the end of week".

According to Chris Walls, the April issue of Fangoria Magazine will have an article on JP2, and maybe even an interview with Steven Speilberg.

The January 6th issue of Current Science Magazine reportedly has an article about JP2 which includes some pictures, says Tom Schwab. If anyone can scan in the pictures, that would be great!

More release dates from Max Szoc: JP2 will be released in Hungary on Aug 1st, in the Netherlands on September 23rd, and in Sweden on September 5th.

A tid-bit in today's "Quick Hits" section of Mr. ShowBiz confirms what we've known here for awhile...."According to the New York Daily News, in Spielberg's version [of JP2], [the dinosaurs] attack a mini-mall and a T-Rex collides with a bus." (thanks to Jason Bennett)

Merchandise Report: The special JP2 Cheerio's have been confirmed by someone else as being in stores (although I haven't see it yet), and also add JP2 Band-Aids to your product list (they're not on shelves yet). (Thanks to Beau and Dan Worthington, respectively)

According to Kartik who got e-mail from Universal, the JP2 trailer won't be on the official site until early April, as opposed to the "soon" comment from another Universal employee I heard a few days ago.

I've been informed that one of Spielberg's upcoming projects will be an animated movie that will have to deal with Moses, produced by DreamWorks. He's also reportedly working on a live-action "Cat in the Hat" movie. (thanks to Justin)

Well, tomorrow is the big day for the "digital-digirati" (as Wired magazine would say): "The right for free speech online lands in the supreme court!" In my opinion, there is no reason to get worked up. The CDA is in such blatent violation of the 1st amendment that there is no way that the Supreme Court would allow it to get by. The government has no right to censor what kids see online--that responsibility lies squarely in the hands of parents, and parents only.

JVC's new "GR-DVM1 compact digital video camera with LCD color monitor" will be featured "prominently" in JP2, according to a JVC press release. The GR-DVM1 features "High resolution LCD color monitor which enables clear viewing of indoor and outdoor subjects due to the industry's first polycrystalline-silicon TFT LCD color monitor." Ed Hall and Brenna Dobos, who both work in a grocery store, spotted some General Mills JP2 Merchandise the other day! Ed says that the cereal box contains a contest--if it "roars" when you open it, you win a trip to see where JP2 was filmed. Has anyone else spotted any JP2 merchandise??

Here's some information from someone named "JP2Freak" on the Net Forum, who says that he is related to an Entertainment Tonight reporter: (Thanks to Matt Boudreau0

In the movie, there will "be a fight between a T-Rex and a trike, and that Chester and Moore would be attacked by a Pteradon."
He also mentions that Jerry O' Connell will be playing "Juttison", who is in some way related to Eddie Carr.
Also, the weekend before the movie opens, the entire one hour weekend episode of Entertainment Tonight will be dedicated to JP2, and will include interviews with some of the major characters.

The JP2 trailer will probably only be shown before "Liar, Liar", according to Moonshiner. He says that it is technically illegal for a projectionist to show a trailer along with a film from another studio if the studio doesn't give it's consent, because of the supposed "free" advertising that the trailer could give.

Sorry, but the Java had to go....a few people (myself among them) were complaining that it slowed down the page. It's gone to Java-heaven, where the SunOS is the all-mighty ruler : )

Once again we have a release date change. Moonshiner, who works at a movie theater, says that Universal will release JP2 on Wednesday, May 21 in select theaters, and will release it nation-wide on Friday, May 23. (Which is what I originally thought).

The new trailer will be exactly 1 minute and 40 seconds long, and while most theaters have the trailer now, most will wait until Friday to show it (before the new Universal film "Liar, Liar"). (Thanks to Moonshiner)

The official word from Universal is that the new trailer will be available on the official JP2 site "soon". (maybe before it comes out in theaters!)

Brian Daisey let me know that a Super Nintendo game called "JP2:The Chaos Continues" came out a few years ago--the plot centered around a "company called Biosyn trying to destroy Ingen so they can have control of the park." Hrmmm....

Talking about video games, I forgot to mention yesterday that Video Game Spot has a Quicktime preview of the JP2 Playstaion game. Here is the .MOV (3.4 mb) or the compressed (3.0 mb) version.

Some info from the rumor mill courtesy of Wiserman:

"Apparently, Eddie Carr comes to a pretty grisly demise in the movie; he's pinned under the overturned trailer, with only the top half of him sticking out, and a T-Rex bends over, studies him curiously, then calmly bites him at the torso and tears him in half"
"I've also heard rumors that some more obscure dinosaurs, such as Spinosaurus and Psittacosaurus, will be making very brief appearances [in JP2]"
He also adds that while there will defiantly be a chameleon dinosaur in JP2, it might be re-named "Allosaurus" instead of "Carnotosaurus", as in the novel. (Since there is no scientific info to back up the idea that a certain dinosaur had chameleon-like abilities, the writers might have picked any dinosaur instead)
