Neill Talks JP4, Debunks 'Military Dinos' Rumor
Update: Word comes Sam Neill's "people" via the Neill mailing list that the following news is incorrect and that as of now, Neill is not in JP4. While Neill did appear on the radio show, the info about JP4 is made up. The original story follows: Some encouraging news today about JP4 courtesy of Countingdown.com, who reports that Sam Neill was on a Australian radio show this morning where he said not only were they still working on a script, but he would definetly be in it, and that the rumor that the story would deal with military-trained dinosaurs is bunk. For the whole thing, check out Countingdown.com. (Thanks 'Malcolm' and 'Oviraptor')

Horner Says JP4 Unlikely to Make 2005
While it might be obvious from the news below that the JP4 script is still being tinkered with, Ezra reports in that JP dino consultant Jack Horner said its unlikely JP4 will be out in 2005. "Tonight I attended a lecture about T.Rex by Jack Horner," Ezra said. "Mr. Horner told me that he isn't aloud to say anything about JP4, but he did say that they aren't even done with the script yet and probably won't making the 2005 release date."

    Sayles Definitely Working on JP4
A little bit of a followup to last month's news about indie filmmaker John Sayles possibly working on the script to JP4. According to site regular Monki, he can "personally confirm this rumor after speaking to two very solid sources," one of which is a friend of the writer. Sayles' deal for the project was apparently just too good to pass up, which seems to suggest Sayles might be starting from scratch instead of just doctoring the current script. Hopefully with Monki's connections we'll learn more in the future, so stay tuned!

Still 'Rumors of JP4' in Hawaii
Along those lines comes word from the always reliable Bob from Hawaii Movie Tours, who reports from the lovely Hawaiian island of Kauai that he has still been hearing "rumors and rumblings that something's going on", but still nothing concrete about whether they'll film JP4 on the island where they've filmed parts of each JP movie. (Thanks 'Carnotaur3')

    JP4 Gets New Writer?
A one-line blurb in today's "News Bites" section of the usually-reliable Dark Horizons states matter-of-factly that John Sayles, indie filmmaker/writer extrodinare (among other tiny films, he wrote and directed last year's Casa de los babys, Sunshine State, and 1992's Passion Fish) is now working on the script for JP4, possibly replacing William Monahan. Sayles would certainly be an odd choice if true, as he is not really used to writing for big-budget studio films: In fact, probably his only semi-related work experience would be the 1978 camp/horror film, "Piranha". Interesting.... (Thanks 'JohnHammond' and 'Evilgrinch')

    Blue Tongue's Next
Those interested in what Blue Tongue Software, the people behind last year's Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis are up to these days should look no further than this year's E3. According to Gamespot, THQ is showing BT's work on The Polar Express, a game based off the upcoming Tom Hanks film. It's due out for the holidays for PC, GC, GBA, and PS2.

    Spielberg's Great Idea?
    If a story posted on
Dark Horizons is to be believed, Spielberg's supposed amazing idea for JP4 involved military-trained dinosaurs. "I cannot begin to tell you how bad his idea is," says Garth's source. "The government has trained dinosaurs to carry weapons and use them for battle purposes. I am not kidding!". However, the writer adds that the script is currently being retooled by "big name script doctors", who could throw the idea out alltogether. Not sure what to make of this one, but it would explain the delay in hearing anything about the next film.... (Thanks 'Malcolm')

Attenborough 'Still Has One More JP to do'
Echoing similar comments made by the prestigious actor and director a few months back, Lord Richard Attenborough says that JP4 will most likely be his last acting gig. "I still have one more Jurassic Park to do - Jurassic Park 4 - but after that I'm done," he told UK newspaper The Daily Express (at least, according to 'Ed Nygma', who assures us this is no April Fools joke). Attenborough is still a dedicated director however, who "has no desire to retire" from creating films -- in fact he is currently attempting to get his latest film "Closing the Ring" off the ground.

    No Fooling
DJP3P regulars might be wondering where the April Fool's joke is this year. Wellll, after last year's was taken a little too seriously by a few people, including a certain webmaster of a certain popular movie webpage, I decided it might be wise to take this year off. Especially considering the 100% real news posted above this story. Sorry! [If you missed my joke yesterday, click here to see what it looked like]

    New TLW Script Online
JP community vet 'Malcolm' has yet another treat for everyone today, in the form of another TLW script he has somehow procured and posted online. Unlike the last version, this one (you can get it in Word format from JPDatabase right here) has the famous (or infamous) San Diego sequence added to the end and is dated August 22, only 12 days before filming. Interestingly enough, while its been said the San Diego scene was Spielberg's idea, this draft is still credited just to David Koepp.

    JP4 Banner Spotted?
Interesting report from AICN this morning from a reader who attended this week's American Film Market convention. According to the scooper, he spotted what may be JP4 promo banners -- "[They] look to be plugging JP4.. no lettering on them, simple 3D-ish T-rex popping out the front with a smoky city landscape behind him. 2005 is all it says." (FYI, the AFM is a convention for the AFMA, a LA-based trade association for indie film and TV). Thanks 'Evilgrinch'. (Update: Just talked to Quint from AICN, who was also at AFM -- he says he didn't see the banner in question. Some in the comments are suggesting that it may have been a banner for the upcoming A Sound of Thunder, which also has dinos, but is due for release this August. Stay tuned...)

    Hidalgo Reviews
The Hidalgo reviews are rollin' in, and despite the negativity we've heard, it looks like Joe may have managed to fix some things with the final cut. Roger Ebert, for one, seems to like it, saying its, "Bold, exuberant and swashbuckling, it has the purity and simplicity of something Douglas Fairbanks or Errol Flynn might have bounded through." Though to be fair, Rottentomatoes.com does have several negative reviews, one in particular commenting that its "Total cheese".

Johnston Hopes Spielberg will Direct JP4
In an interview with ol' Joe Johnston at JoBlo.com, the JP3 director (who's new film Hidlago is finally ready for its big screen debut this Friday) says he "know[s] there’s a story [for JP4] that’s being written.. that takes the franchise in a completely different direction – away from the island and away from the T-Rex and all this. It’s a great story, and I sort of hope Spielberg will direct it," adding that "Nobody's made me an offer yet". Besides the JP4 mention, Johnston talks about his new film, explaining he took the project despite being in "recuperation" from JP3. "[The script] sat on my desk for about 3 weeks and I didn’t want to look at it, because I was afraid I’d like it," he tells the site. "And I started reading it and I, you know, I couldn’t put it down." The rest of the interview can be found here. (Thanks 'The Crow')

    JP3 on Network TV
Several people noticed ABC will be airing JP3 as their "movie of the week" next Monday, February 16th at 8pm, the third week of the so-called "sweeps" month. While JP3 has already been seen on the Starz! cable network, this will mark it's network tv premiere. So for all of you who don't go to movie theaters, don't own a DVD player or VCR nor know anyone who has one, and haven't made the jump to cable, nows your chance to see JP3 complete with numerous commercial interruptions! Excitement! (Thanks 'Oviraptor', among others)

    JP MUD
Back before the internet became all colorful and popular, net fogies like me spent their time dialing long-distance BBS' and surfing text webpages. And one of the things people did to pass the time were MUDs, or Multi User Dungeons, kind of a chat room crossed with a text-based adventure. Now JP fan Robert Gentry has created an old skool MUD based on the JP universe called JP: Extinction (you can connect to it by clicking the link -- you'll get a login prompt if the server is up). For more info and instructions, visit the webpage of the MUD, here.

    Did you know?
Not JP news per se, but Travis sent a link to an interesting article from Wired.com about Sandy Collora, who some might recognize as the name behind the low-budget but highly talked about "Batman: Dead End" short flick. Besides next directing a remake of "The Creature From the Black Lagoon", the article reveals Sandy is a Stan Winston Studios alumn and the creator of the famous JP logo. Now you know!

    New Projects for Monahan, Johnston?
Happy New Year! Anyone else wondering what the heck is taking Universal so long to announce some cold hard facts regarding JP4? In the meantime, the film based on JP4 screenwriter William Monahan's script is already ready for shooting, according to Movies.yahoo.com. According to the site, Ridley Scott began directing "Kingdom of Heaven" last week, about a peasant (Orlando Bloom) who becomes a knight to repel the Crusaders. Meanwhile, with Hidalgo finally in the can, JP3 director Joe Johnston is rumored (at least, according to an anonymous post at IMDB) to be attached to an adaptation of "The Giver", the 1994 Newberry Award-winning novel about life in a Utopian world. (Thanks 'Caligula' and 'Oviraptor')

    "99% finished" Hidalgo Review
I don't think we'll ever know who's idea was it to push the release date of Joe Johnstons Hidalgo forward a few months (it's still due out March 5th), but after seemingly endless versions of its trailer and apparent edits, it looks like it still may have some problems, according to a post over at AICN. "This is a movie that has lost it's direction," says the poster. "There were several scenes in which after some dialogue there was a quick cut to the horse, as if he was about to say something."
