    Stan Hints at JP4, Again
A few reports coming in from people who watched "Dinosaur Secrets Revealed" on The History Channel tonight: Apparently in the final 15 minutes of the show, Jack Horner and Stan Winston are talking about feathered dinosaurs, and Jack mentions that he wishes the Veliciraptors in JP3 were completely covered in feathers. Stan replies, "In the third JP we didn't go feathered dinosuar just because there didn't seem to be the proper place for it... So in Jurassic Park 4 (holds up four fingers) [happens] -- when we do the feathered dinosaurs -- I'll be happy to put the feathers on." (Thanks TJS, SOCL, and 'jurassiraptor')

    Operation Genesis Interview
The upcoming park-building game for the PS2, PC, Xbox, and GC will feature "characters from the first movie" in the park, as well as an Isla Nublar mission that recreates the original JP layout, according to a new interview with a Blue Tongue rep at UK.Playstation.com. Some excerpts:
Let's talk dinosaurs. Which of the dinos in the three movies will feature in the game? Will there be any other, more exotic dinosaurs included?

There are 25 different dinosaurs in the game, and all the traditional favourites will be there. Some of the Herbivores include Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Brachiosaurus whilst we have Velociraptors, Spinosaurus, and of course, Tyrannosaurus Rex from the Carnivores. There are many others from the movies which people will recognise such as Ankylosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Gallimimus and Dilophasaurus. I'm sure people will enjoy getting to know them all...

How realistic will the dinosaurs be in the game? Will they act as seen in the movies, or did you do independent research into their behaviour?

We have drawn on numerous texts and papers in compiling our dinosaurs, and putting their interactions together. The dinosaur's look and feel within the game will be as realistic as we can make them look. People will certainly be able to recognise them if they have seen the movies. As to behaviour, we believe our dino-dino interaction AI to be extremely advanced. Dinosaurs will respond to one another's presence, and will run of defend themselves if confronted, depending on the dino's capabilities. People are in for a real treat.

The full interview can be found here. (Thanks 'csfett').

New Dino Special on History Channel
Chris noticed a new 2-hour special entitled "Dinosaur Secrets Revealed" starring JP dino consultant Jack Horner will air on the History Channel tonight at 9pm ET. "In association with the American Museum of Natural History," says the History Channel site, "this special looks at the many theories scientists have had about dinosaurs since their bones were first identified 150 years ago and examines what they've gotten right, what they've gotten wrong, and how they've come to those (often erroneous) conclusions." Sorry for the late notice.

Billy on JP4: 'I Hope Not'
Interesting little tid-bit from IGN FilmForce this morning, as Steve is reporting that in a recent interview with Alessandro Nivola for his upcoming movie Laurel Canyon, JP3's Billy says that he really hopes there won't be a JP4, as the first one was "a really trying experience", probably reffering to the repeated delays and harsh filming conditions that other JP3 cast members have spoken out about in the past (William H. Macy, I'm looking in your direction..) "I have to say, Sam Neill got me through it... he played ukulele, and we could sit around in our trailers and strum Beach Boys songs." he adds. "And if it hadn't been for that, I would have gone out of my mind." Read the entire article here. (Thanks Andrew)

What's Lex up to These Days?
And speaking of past JP cast members, Clinton sends along this "Where are they now?" blurb from the November issue of Empire Magazine (Australia), who catches up with JP and TLW's Ariana Richards:

Now 22 and with a Drama and Fine Arts Degree under her belt, Richards has returned to the franchise that provided her with her first big break. No, not Jurassic Park, but Tremors, the desert-set giant worms drama. Indeed, after giving Tremors 2: Aftershocks a miss, Richards reprised the role of Mindy Sterngood in the recent Tremors 3: Back To Perfection, a film whose quality must be called into question given that it features neither of the series's original stars, Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward.

Away from running, Richards is a dab hand with a paintbrush, producing the sort of chocolate box scenes your grandmother would love. She also loves competing in showjumping events and one day hopes to realise her ambition of "breeding horses on my ranch." Oh well, at least they won't try to eat her.

New JP3 Game Named, Delayed, Announced For GC
This just in to DJP3P! Blue Tongue sends word that the long-anticipated park-building JP game in development at the Australian software house has finally been named, and it looks like the rumor was correct: the full title will be "Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis" (not "Project Genesis"). Unfortunately my source also adds that it doesn't look like they will make the Q4 2002 ship date, and the target release date is now Q1 2003, which could be anywhere between January and March of next year. Owners of Nintendo's Game Cube system, however, can rejoice tonight, as it's been revealed that a Cube version of Operation Genesis is in the works in addition to the versions for the PC, XBox, and PS2, although the GC version is not due out until Q3 2003. More to come, so stay tuned...

    JP4 Standee?
A few people have been sending this story to me over the past few days, so I figured I might as well mention it: According to regular DJP3Per 'Big Razzie', she has recently obtained a Jurassic Park 4 Standee, a stand-up theater ad for the next JP movie, which according to Razzie herself "looks pretty official", though by her own admission "could be a fake or bootleg". Razzie will not divulge where she got the standee, but says it she did not create it herself. According to her webpage, the standee features a TLW-like logo with the words "Jurassic Park IV: Return to Chaos" and "Coming soon". (Thanks 'Filmmaker') Update: Razzie has posted pictures of the standee at her site, and it's pretty obvious, at least to me, that this is not an official item.....

    A Chat With Horner
Since JPDatabase.net has been having some server problems recently, 'Malcolm' sent along this short e-mail chat with JP dino advisor Jack Horner which he had been meaning to post. We don't hear Horner speak about the JP series too often, so it's pretty cool that he responded to Malcolm's questions. Here ya go:

Q: How much of a difference was it working with Joe Johnston in JP3, than Steven Spielberg in the other films?
A: I like both of the directors a lot. But Joe Johnston is very interested in paleontology and has come out to the field every summer for the last three years. So he and I have become very good friends. Steven, is a good guy, but I don't know him personally as well as Joe.
Q: What species are the 'compys' in The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 based off? Do you think it was really possible for the compys to have been pack hunters?
A:Compsognathus, and no, I don't think its likely they were pack-hunters.
Q: Were there any dinosaur characteristics that you did not like or had a problem with in the JP trilogy but were still used because Spielberg/Johnston wanted them?
A: T-rex runs too fast, and none of the dinos are colorful enough.
Q: In the making of JP you seemed rather upset with the idea of the raptor sticking out their tongues like snakes because it portrayed them more like reptiles than birds...were you as upset with the Dilophosaurus having a neck frill like an existing reptile today?
A: No, there is no evidence suggesting that it didn't have a frill. That is fictional license, but we know that dinosaurs didn't have forked tongues.

Q: How long have you believed that Tyrannosaurus was a scavenger?
Did you ever try to influence them to show any of the dinosaurs scavenging in Jurassic Park and/or The Lost World?
A: For about 10 years. Yes, and T-rex is portrayed as a scavenger in JP3.

Sam Says He'll 'Possibly' Be Involved in JP4
    Long-time site reader
Clinton reports that last weekend's edition of Kiwi magazine "The New Zealand Listener" featured a talk with fellow New Zealander Sam Neill, who once again hints that JP4 is in development, and that he just might play a part, according to Spielberg:
Q: The role you're most internationally recognised for is probably Alan Grant from Jurassic Park. Any truth to the reports there will be yet another sequel? Are you involved?

SN: Oh, well I could...Actually, I'm...(laughs). I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say in regard to this. Yes, another Jurassic Park is in the developmental stages at the moment. I think I can say that without being arrested, or eaten by one of those scary dinosaurs (laughs). As for my involvement, it's a possibility. I certainly had a ripper of a time doing the previous two, so I have no objection in that respect. Steven (Spielberg) has spoken with me briefly about the new story they are working on, which is remarkably inventive and intriguing, by the way.

Q: Any plot teasers you would care to share with New Zealand first?

SN: (laughs heartily) You really DO want to get me arrested, don't you? No, I'm very sorry, no juicy secrets from me. Steven has indicated I may have some part in the film, but I'll leave it at that. From what I know, it's pretty early goings. As always, I'll wait for the finished script, and just see how my schedule shapes up.

(Incidentially, most of the interview deals with Sam's winery, Two Paddocks, which has a new website at www.twopaddocks.com, complete with a welcome letter from Sam himself!)

    Project Genesis Update
As it's original release date is nearing, I contacted Blue Tongue asking about the status of Project Genesis, the upcoming JP-themed game for the PC, PS2, and XBox. While my contact still couldn't tell me much about the release date or final name, he did say that they are "working working working", and that he had just spent 3 hours playing the PC version of the game. "Things are definitely ramping up now," he says. Expect more on the game next week.

    'Hidalgo' Script Review
For those interested in what JP3 Director Joe Johnston is up to post-dinos, 'Aussie Embryo' noticed film site TNMC.org has posted a pretty medicore-sounding review of an early version of his next project (filmed this summer), a "based on a true story" tale of a man who enters his non-Arabian horse in an Arabian horse race. Check out the review, here. (Also thanks 'Evil Grinch')
