Steven Spielberg made the velociraptors in JP considerably larger than they were believe to be. However, during post-production, the Utahraptor was discovered, which fit the JP velociraptors dimensions perfectly. (From: 'Dean')

    Jurassic Water?
Bottled during the late cretaceous, this 6oz container of Jurassic Park 3-themed water (aka fossil fuel) is the very first piece of JP3 merchandise so far.. sorta: The guy who posted it on Ebay (Starting price: a measly $4.00) says that it will only be distributed to attendees during the Licensing Show in NYC going on now, but how could Universal pass up such an obvious money-maker like this?! Come on now. Thanks to 'Utahraptor'.

    DVD Cover Art
My very favorite DVD news website (despite the fact they believe TLW was called "Jurassic Park 2"), The Digital Bits posted the cover scans of the upcoming Jurassic Park and The Lost World DVD's (out October 10th). Nifty!!:

    The JP3 Logo?
Holy crap, the JP3 news is coming in fast and furious now.. First up is this pretty nifty yet completely unofficial Jurassic Park 3 logo?, sent to me by Jawad of The Spielberg/Dreamworks Fansite. While this logo does not come from an official source, it's apparently from a credible informant who got the logo at the Licensing Show in NYC (see more JP3 news from the show below). Here it be:

So I'm assuming that this means the official title really is "Jurassic Park III". Anyone know what kind of dinosaur that is?

Whew! The "monstrous media campaign" will begin September 15th, coinciding with the Summer Olympics. There's also word about VHS versions of the movies, read the full press release for info about that. Just one more random observation: If the JP+TLW DVD's include the JP3 trailer, it must indicate that the trailer is nearing completion (or is completed).. Will we see it in theaters soon? (Thanks Chris Maier and deeptime5, among others)

    Kathleen Kennedy and ILM Involvement
And continuing the news provided by Universal in the DVD press release, the article also mentions that Kathleen Kennedy, the producer of many many Spielberg films including JP (she was executive producer on TLW) will in fact be producing the third Jurassic Park film. Also worth a mention is the infamous special effects house ILM, who, as we expected, will be working on JP3 under Stan Winston.

    jurassicpark.com
One last news story relating to all this: The same press release also reports about the upcoming jurassicpark.com website, which will attempt to "create the ultimate Jurassic Park online experience". Among the features on the site (there's no word on when this site will actually launch) are access to the official Jurassic Park Club, "auctions, cast info, updates and sneak peaks from the set of Jurassic Park III, schedules of webcasts and chats, customized e-mail, greeting cards, a calendar of events, audio and video clips, never-before-seen footage, outtakes from Jurassic Park and The Lost World, and archived interview footage." The press release also adds that, "a specially-designed Jurassic Park browser will also be downloadable from the website".

    Where will JP3 take place?
[7am] In what is the first confirmed piece of official news about the plot of Jurassic Park 3, this Variety news story first announces that predictably, Hasbro has again been selected as the "worldwide master license for [JP3]", and will produce "boys' action toys, games, puzzles, plush toys, and electronic items." However, the story goes on to mention the following about additional JP3 licenses:

"Universal said it will use a trio of creative themes for licensees and promo partners: Jurassic Park Authentic with factual information on dinosaurs; Re-Ak Attack, focusing on dinosaur vs. dinosaur action; and Site C, focusing on the film's location on a Costa Rican island."
So let me get this straight: Site A is JP. Site B is where the dinos are made. So what the heck goes on on Site C?

    The Merchandise is Coming!
[11pm] Well, it's started. According to this Variety news story, Jurassic Park 3 toys will be one of the many movie licenses that will be shown off by manufacturers at this year's Licensing Show in New York. That's all the info I have, but hopefully we'll learn more when the show starts on Tuesday.

Release Date and More JP3 Character Info!
Hot on heels of yesterday's news that the JP3 filmmakers are looking for someone to play a character named "Miles", jthompso49 pointed me towards this recent article in USA Today, which gives a whole list of short character bios, along with the first hint of a release date: We'll be seeing JP3 in theaters a little over a year from now -- July 2001! Interestingly enough, the article says specifically that "Spielberg is on the prowl for actors [for JP3]", and that the infamous director will be serving as producer on the film. Here's the full text:

"Steven Spielberg is on the prowl for actors to play the next luckless batch of islanders to battle dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park series.

"When you have specific or even vague ideas for what you want for specific characters, you send out some kind of descriptions," says Spielberg spokesman Marvin Levy, stressing that no parts have been filled.

Casting agents who have received the breakdowns say this is the lineup of what's needed:

      • A 12-year-old boy to play Miles, the lead character.
      • A 40-ish actor to play Miles' father, Paul, a white-collar, sophisticated, Ivy League type.
      • A thirtysomething actress to play Paul's business associate and possible love interest.
      • A 25-ish actor to play a graduate student or paleontologist.
      • An Andre Braugher (Pic) type to play a 40-ish military attaché.
      • A thirtysomething actress to play Simone, a naturalist.

Jurassic Park 3 (not its final title), produced by Spielberg, will be directed by Joe Johnston (October Sky, Jumanji) and released in July 2001."

Part of the JP3 Script -- Really this time!
Well, unlike the recent debacle surrounding a set of fake pages from the Jurassic Park 3 script I posted here, Philip Neumann sent me three pages that sure do look legit. Here's the deal: Philip here, an aspiring actor, routinely accesses a website called ShowFax which posts "sides" (scenes from a film that an actor needs to know for an audition). He sent along the JP3 sides listed on the site (and posted on 6/2) for a character named "Miles Roby", a 12-year-old dinosaur fan. Also listed in the scene is "Cooper", described as a bodyguard (presuably for "Paul Roby", the kid's dad and a businessman or something) Anyway, enough of my blathering, check out the script of the scene below:

    Universal Registers More Domains
News has been pretty slow these days, but I've dug up a bit of interesting info, thanks once again to the good ol' InterNIC domain name database. Universal is busy registering JP-related domains again -- here's a list of a few domains they've recently secured:
      JURASSICPARKIII.COM - Registered May 7
      JURASSICPARK-III.COM - Registered May 7
      JURASSICPARK-3.COM - Registered May 7
      JURASSIC-PARK-3.COM - Registered May 7
      JURASSICPARKDVD.COM - Registered May 30
Note that nothing is actually AT these domains yet, Universal has just secured them so they're ready when they want to put a site up.

Wondering what happened to inGenNet? According to Mr. Neo_Maze, the webmaster of the site, the server has "taken severe lightning damage and will be back shortly." Yikes.

Site B Set to be Used in JP3 Filming
More news from my source who works in the studio tour department at Universal Studios: According to him, the large Site B set Spielberg built behind the Psycho house at Universal is being prepped for filming, and studio tours may have to be diverted around the area when filming begins. "If they close off that area to the tour, that will definitely indicate that filming has begun," he says.

    What is Tim up to?
A little bit of fun news... Dilophosaurus has the honor of attending high school with Tim (aka Joseph Mazello), and reported that after driving his mom's minivan to school every day for a year, Joey has finally invested in a new set of considerably cooler wheels: a BMW Z3 Convertible.

    JP/TLW DVD Release Dates
Just noticed this bit of info on the excellent DVD website, The Digital Bits that I never reported -- According to their sources, Universal's DVD of "Jurassic Park" is slated to be released in September with "The Lost World" to follow in October. I'll take one of each, please.

T-Rex Will Not be the Main Dino in JP3, says Horner
An informant known as Downshade sent in some JP3 info after hearing infamous paleontologist Jack Horner speak at his school a few months back. Horner served as the "dinosaur consultant" for both JP and TLW, and now it seems he is on the JP3 project as well.
[Horner] indeed confirmed that the T-Rex would not be the main antagonist in the next film. I can't remember if he said that they "kill it off," but he did say there would be a new dinosaur filling the T-Rex's big shoes .

Anyway, if you ever have the opportunity to hear Horner speak - go hear him, he's fascinating.
