Some paleontologists think that the t-rex wouldn't actually have caused the ripples in the water when it approached, since it could control it's weight effortlessly, stepping softly so it would not scare away prey. (From: 'Dinosaur_neill')

    From JP3 Storybook #3
A few new pictures from Tim's pre-release copy of the Jurassic Park 3 Movie Storybook:

Tim also sends along this pretty humorous description of a scene from the storybook, telling us what leads up to a soon-to-be memorable line:
A full moon rose in the sky as the barge chugged down river. On deck, the humans heard a familiar jingle. (Spoilers!) The satellite phone was ringing. "Quiet!" Dr. Grant whispered, sure that Spinosaurus was close by. They spotted large brown mounds on the flat shore. Spinosaurus dung! The ringing sound was coming from one of those piles.

Everyone rushed ashore. They held their breath as they dug into the smelly mounds. "I've got it!" Amanda cried, pulling the telephone out of the stinky mess. It was still ringing! She activated the phone. "Vacation in Mexico," a recorded voice said."You can enjoy a meal in one of our fabulous restaurants or ..." She shut off the phone to save power.

Suddenly,a hungry Carnotaurus stomped out of the jungle. The creature took one sniff of the dung covered humans and lumbered away. Not even a dinosaur would eat something that smelled as bad as they did!

"I can't help but feel a little offended," Paul said.'

    JP3 Script Removed
Bob from Hawaii Movie Tours let me know that the JP3 script he had been posting on his site has been removed due to legal pressure from Universal. Please do not ask me for a copy of the script -- I do not have it. In addition, all requests made for the script on the message board will be deleted.

    More From JP3 Storybook
I begged Tim to send a few more pics from his pre-release copy of the JP3 Storybook, and he graciously provided some, including this very nice shot of Dr. Grant and dear Dr. Sattler on-screen together for the first time since 1993. I ask you: Is the love still there?

    JP3 Game on Nintendo Gamecube
A surprise announcement earlier today from the floor at E3, as Gamecube.IGN.com is reporting that "longtime Nintendo supporter Kemco Entertainment" unveiled two upcoming projects for Nintendo's next-generation console at the show, one of which is tentatively entitled "Universal Studios" -- judging from the pics, however, its obviously a Jurassic Park game:

"Universal Studios... was in fact running in real-time on the GCN hardware, but like Batman it wasn't playable. The title was visibly geared to younger gamers, with , for example, simplistic graphics and colorful, less spooky takes on the realistic dinosaurs from the movie of the same name."
There are several more pics from the upcoming game (no release date has been set), including a downloadable movie, at cube.ign.com. (Thanks 'Jurassosaurus')

    Rated PG-13
Unlike TLW, there weren't any rumors going around that JP3 would be rated "R", but several people ('creedfan' was first) noticed the almighty MPAA has officially bestowed JP3 with a "PG-13" rating ("Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13"), with a comment that the film is "Rated PG-13 for intense sci-fi terror and violence." This also may indicate that the film is getting nearer to completion, as the MPAA needs to screen a film before giving a rating.

    Pics From the JP3 Storybook
Oddly enough, just as I posted the story directly below this one about the upcoming Jurassic Park 3 Movie Storybook (to be released June 12th), I get these three very cool shots from Tim Adler who says they are actually from a pre-release copy of the book. Enjoy!

    More Upcoming Books
Amazon.com updated their listings for the several upcoming JP3 books, including the Jurassic Park 3 Movie Storybook (to be released June 12th). This 48-page book is for the kids, with "easy to read prose", but if it's anything like the TLW storybook, it should feature really nice shots from the film. Also new to Amazon is "Survivor" (Jurassic Park Adventures, No. 1) by Scott Ciencin, described as "a new original series of exciting high interest fiction...[which] features an all-new story set in the fictional dinosaur preserve of Jurassic Park." (Jurassic Park Adventures No. 2, "Prey", will follow in October). Ciencin is also penning the JP3 Junior Novelization, to be released on the 12th as well. Thanks 'Mrob1485'.

Soundtrack to be Released July 10th?
'Sam Jackson' noticed the JP3 Soundtrack up for pre-order on Iclassics.com, pointing out that the release date says July 10th, not July 17th as we've heard previously. In addition, there's a shot of the album cover, where John Williams is credited as providing the "Original Themes", and Don Davis is listed as composing and conducting "New music".

Neill Wants to Get His Character 'Right' in JP3
Sam Neill talked to syndicated gossip columnist Marilyn Beck about why he decided to reprise his Grant role for the third film, according to Cinescape online. "You don't necessarily want to repeat yourself," he said. "But then, you have to bear in mind, you never really get a character right the first time." However, Neill was still a bit wary to return originally, and "had to give it a bit of a thought." (Neill wasn't signed on until June 20th, a mere 2 months before filming began). Thanks 'TheNforcer01'.

    New JP: Survivor Pics
I'm not sure if they're new, or if I just missed 'em, but several people let me know that there about 40 or so new pics/concept art from the upcoming PS2 game at the bottom of IGN.com's preview article. In addition, there's another article on the game up on Gamespot.com, where we learn a few interesting tidbits:

"Stealth is required in several instances if you want to proceed in the game. Sometimes he must dodge searchlights, and at other times he must find his way across vast pastures loaded with dinosaurs without the aid of weaponry. What's more, [there will be] an ATV chase scene that has David fleeing the hungry reptiles.

The game's levels are enormous, and they're heavily populated with palm trees, buildings, and dinosaurs. Most of the special effects have yet to be implemented, but the confusing caves level has David equipped with a mining helmet that flashes real-time lighting around the caverns to help you find your way. Savage will be using the same exact dinosaur cries that will be used in Jurassic Park III, though, so they should eventually sound authentic."

    (Thanks Mike)

    Miles, Not Eric?
Not really news, just interesting: 'Raptorboy2001' noticed that when he bought the Eric Kirby action figure at Walmart a few days back, when the cashier scanned it, "Miles w/Pterandon" showed up on the register instead of "Eric". "Miles", as you'll remember, was Eric's name in an earlier version of the JP3 script.

    Johnston on JP3
Our man Joe Johnston sat down with a Newsday reporter (May 13, page D20) about what it was like making a Jurassic Park film: (Thanks 'VRaptor6760')
Johnston, whose movies include "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," "October Sky" and "The Rocketeer," offered to direct the second "Jurassic Park" movie ("The Lost World"). Although franchise creator Steven Spielberg chose to do it himself, Johnston told him "keep me in mind." Spielberg did. Johnston says the filmmakers were "still working on a lot of [dinosaur sequence] stuff." He also promises that this version of "Jurassic Park" would make everybody happy-from the family out to see a movie to the dedicated techheads for whom "Jurassic Park III" offers a state-of-the-art window on animatronics and computerized filmmaking.

"We'll be making them very happy," Johnston says of the techies. "This film makes whole leaps orward from the last film, technologically... [but] the last thing I want is people coming out of a movie talking about 'special effects.'" With "Jurassic Park III," which takes place eight years after the first film, Johnston returns to something closer to the original than its first sequel.

"Laura Dern is in it a little, but she and Sam Neill are no longer a couple," Johnston says, chalking it up to "evolution." "My only criticism of the second 'Jurassic Park,' which I liked very much, is that the characters all knew what they were getting into; they were prepared. This one is more like the first. Nobody knows what's going to happen."

Contributing to that will be Spinosaurus aegypticus ("I can even spell it," Johnston says), a monstrous dinosaur that, in the real Jurassic era, would have made mincemeat of old Tyrannosaurus rex. "There was only one really great fossil of Spinosaurus in a German museum, which was bombed during the war," Johnston says. "For a long time, that was it, although some other fossils have since been discovered. But Spinosaurus was bigger than T. rex and had huge arms-unlike T. rex's arms, which seem about to evolve away.

Johnston says he was "flattered" that Spielberg asked him to direct "JP III," although he knows the inherent hazards. "No matter who directed it, there's no way to avoid all the comparisons that are going to be made. I didn't want that to be an influence in whether I did it or not. It's a big responsibility. But how could I not?"
