In TLW, the Parasaurolophus is strangly reffered to in the closed captioning as "Carnithosaurus", a non-existant dinonsaur. This dinosaur also appears and is referred to in several TLW based books geared for younger fans. (From: 'Dilophosaurus')

    Finale Photos
Looks like Bob is up to his old tricks again, as he dropped me a line saying he's scored some great photos from last month's Hawaii re-shoot and posted them over at Hawaii Movie Tours. Here's a pic of "Pilaa Beach" where they shot some of the scene -- Just a bit of a warning: Some of these pictures contain mild spoilers about the ending of the film.

    LEGO Announces JP3 Products
The LEGO Corporation announced today that they will be producing two JP3-related products for release in May, both of which will be part of Lego's "Studios" set of toys. The first set, the press release says, will "bring to life the menacing Spinosaurus featured in the movie as he (Potential spoilers) attacks a plane in a tree, which can also be built into a boat. The set includes one cameraman, a pilot mini-figure, and a crane (suggested retail $34.99 US). The second set includes unique elements allowing youngsters to build two Raptors and one Pteranodon dinosaur. This set comes complete with three mini-figures, including male and female "actors" and one cameraman (suggested retail price $19.99 US)"

    Dino DNA Found in Amber?
Here's an interesting AP story: "Insects to be tested for dinosaur DNA", sent in by Joonas. The article is about a Jordanian geologist who is planning on extracting dinosaur blood from insects trapped in amber. "'Jurassic Park' is at our doorsteps," says the geologist, Abbas Haddadin, whose last name is eerily similar to "Hammond", Joonas points out.

    No JP3 in Italy?
Mama Mia! An article at Variety.com reports that the summer movie season in Italy is traditionally dead, so Hollywood is wary to open big films there -- "While 'The Mummy 2', 'Jurassic Park 3', and 'The Mexcian' are ready for the summer plunge in France and Germany," the article says, "[Universal] has yet to convince the producers to try riskier Italo waters." Verreaux Talks Sets
Horror Online posted a very interesting interview with JP3 production designer Ed Verreaux, where he talks about the sets and design he's done on the film. Besides the "mere eight weeks of pre-production time", Verreaux says, the toughest part of the shoot was "[getting] everyone to agree, 'Okay, here's what we're going to do.'... even when the script changes flew... fast and furiously" The author describes one set as, "includ[ing] much flora and fauna, as well as a creek and inlaid tracks for T.Rex and his dino pals to move along." At another point in the film, Verreaux says, "Our band of survivors have been traipsing across the island, and they come across another Ingen compound. And what they find is that the Ingen people (Spoilers) have been breeding dinosaurs in a big laboratory." The scene being shot the day they visit, "resembles a cell block from Alcatraz... the actors will get chased into these cages by the raptors, and will play hide and seek with [them] as they maneuver through the elaborate set." JP3 Title for Gameboy Advance
Gameboy Advance fans rejoice! Konami announced today that a JP3 game is in development for Nintendo's upcoming portable game system, slated for release around the same time as the movie. "The game will follow the storyline of the movie," says Nintendo fan site tendobox.com. The JP3 game will be one of the first titles appearing on the new 32-bit system, which is also scheduled to arrive here in the states in July. (Thanks 'Jurassic5')

    Another Toy Picture
Chris Roberts sent along this image of what looks to be the complete JP3 display from the website SciFiExpo.com (they say it was taken at the International Import Toy Fair) -- it's a little blurry, but you can manage to make out several toys, including one that looks like a car race type game.

    Toys: Hasbro Products
Action-Figure.com has posted what they say to be their first set of pictures from the Hasbro booth at the UK Toyfair -- here we have what looks to be the "Electronic Commanche", the "Re-Ak Atack Vehicle" (also in that shot is part of a "Deluxe Raptor"), and the "2x Deluxe Triceratops". More pictures can be found here:

    Spielberg Dislikes JP3?
Okay, I'm posting this, but a big load of salt is required here, since a) this stuff is not verified, and b) it's coming from someone who heard it from someone, which is what courts like to call "hearsay". Anyway, here goes: According to Nathan St.Germain, who recently talked to a friend of JP3's Assistant Producer, Steven Spielberg is very unhappy about the JP3 production, and "basically threw a fit" over the film's apparently tiny plot and other factors. Everyone is also "very happy" that filming is complete. More positively, Nathan adds that he saw a very cool picture of a "skeleton" hanging from the trees in "some kind of parachute harness", and a picture of a orange-colored raptor from the film that did not have a head crest.

    Toys: JP3 Robot Raptor
Toy site Action-Figure.com has been updating all week with reports from the UK Toyfair, going on now in England. While the site promises pictures of Hasbro's action figures later in the week, they do report that Tiger Electronics, who has produced JP+TLW electronic games in the past, are readying a "[JP3] robotic raptor [with] the same latex finish of the Yoda Furby.. it's supposed to be extremely lifelike." They estimate it'll be around $100 or so in the US. In addition, Tiger is believed to be expanding it's successfull Poo-Chi line of robot toys to include a "Dino-chi" (pictured) which may be tied in with JP3. (Thanks 'Varan101')

    Neill Talks Action
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also talked to JP3 star Sam Neill at Sundance, who is there to promote his new indie film, "The Dish". Regarding JP3, however, Neill said that "[JP3] is much more of an action film than the first one... because we're no longer under any obligation to explain things like DNA and theme parks. The odour hits the fan pretty quickly." In addition, he said that the special effects have "advanced generations" since the first film.

Filming Wraps, Sam Misses His Dinos
Jon from JP3HQ noticed this NY Daily News article talking to some of the stars at this year's Sundance Film Festival in Utah. With word that JP3 had finally wrapped a few days previous, Neill is said to be "already missing his dinosaurs," and seems to have grown oddly attached to one: "They're so lifelike, I became curiously fond of them," he says. "There was one little female velociraptor who had a cute haircut, but it was never anything more than holding hands... holding claws." For those of you keeping score, filming began August 30 and ended last Friday (the 26th), making the shoot of JP3 149 days long.. (Thanks 'ih8wasps')

    More International Release Dates
The IMDB received a few new international release dates for JP3, including Taiwan on August 18 and Germany on July 26. The release date for Australia has also been changed on the list, to August 30 (this matches the Australian report from last week where the film is said to be coming out in August)

    "Bigger Than Christmas"
A few nights ago Access Hollywood featured a segment about big 2001 movies, the highlight being a short interview with Sam Neill regarding JP3. He gave the basic "it's gonna rock" speech, including the memorable quote, "It'll be bigger than Christmas."

    I'm Back
Hey people.. As you might have noticed, a few things screwed up with the site while I was gone, most noticeable the message board. That is working again, though all old messages have been deleted. I'm still trying to find out exactly what happened that caused it to go kablooey. It looks like I didn't miss any JP3 news while I was gone, but I have a ton of JP Facts and fan art to add. Look for those tomorrow.

    No Superbowl Trailer
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I have managed to confirm from a source at Universal Studios that a Jurassic Park 3 teaser will unfortunately not be one of the commercials shown during Sunday's expensive Super Bowl airtime. Instead, Universal plans on focusing on films closer to release, such as The Fast and the Furious (March 23) and The Mummy Returns (May 11). A full JP3 theatrical trailer, however, is planned for sometime in the near future.

    JP3 at TOY FAIR 2001
From the same Universal source comes word that there are definite plans to show real footage from Jurassic Park 3 at the Hasbro booth during the American International TOY FAIR 2001, the largest toy show in the country (and the place where Hasbro will presumably unveil it's full line of JP3 products). Unfortunatly, while the show will take place February 11-15 in New York, it is not open to the general public. So if you are in the toy industry, planning on attending the fair, and would like to send a report back about what you see, please email me.

    Spino Pic, Finale Details
Tim sent along the new picture of the Spinosaurs from the latest special edition issue of Entertainment Weekly (#579/580 -- 'Our Guide to 2001'), where we can see several technicians working on the giant paw of the dinosaur (click the image at the right for a bigger version). Along with the picture is this blurb, which adds some info about the ending of the film:
Who says dinosaurs are extinct? To date, the Jurassic franchise has stomped up around $1.5 billion worldwide, so it's no surprise that exec producer Steven Spielberg is taking a trip back to the prehistoric well (but not to the director's chair). Scant plot details are available--though we do know there's a crash landing and a rescue mission on that famous island where T.rexes traipse and raptors roam. That, and the fact that director Joe Johnston brought the crew to Hawaii to shoot an ending with appropriate scope. "To try and pull something off greenscreen wouldn't have worked," says star Tea Leoni. "You need lots of room to film. You know, for dino trampling,"

Pteradon's Attack US City in JP3?
"The plot of the third Jurassic Park film is a closely guarded secret," says New Zealand publication Bella Magazine, "[although] there are rumours of flying dinosaurs attacking an American city." Obviously this is the first we've heard on the subject -- could a NZ woman's magazine know something we don't? (Thanks 'Big Razzie')

Even More JP3 Super Bowl Ad Speculation
JP3HQ noticed this article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which says to "except a crouded field at the Super Bowl scrimmage line as ultra-expensive ad spots are being gobbled up by movie studios that want to promote their newest films," and goes on to say that JP3 is one of them. As Jon says, however, "their sources are not mentioned", so it may just be speculation.

    JP3 in China
A major holding company in China is planning on aquiring the rights to distribute JP3 and sell merchandise through Chinese Walmart stores, according to this press release from the company on Stockhouse.com. The negotiations are said to be in the "final stage", and if successful, the company will show the film in China in July to August 2001. "The Company is also finalizing its negotiations with Walmart China for the distribution of [JP3] products through their stores in China." (Thanks JP3HQ)

    About the 'Info Brouchure'
I talked to the seller of the JP3 Info Brouchure on Ebay (see yesterday's news), who sent along a few descriptions of what is inside the booklet. Most of it seems to be run-of-the-mill promotional stuff, with sections on the evolution of the franchise, product sales, video games sold, etc. One part talks about a "new [JP] ride opening in Japan in 2001," and another mentions some upcoming JP3 merchandise, including "insulated drinkware, plates & flatware design, [children's] cups, and store displays." Very little is mentioned, it seems, about JP3 itself.
