In the original Topps JP trading card series, the dilophosaurus card describes the dilo as "forty feet tall and spotted like an owl". (From: 'jurassic pets')

    News from Hawaii
Well, I'm back in one piece, except for a much lighter wallet due to the hotel's damn cheating casino -- speaking of which, we saw Wayne Gretsky and Michael Jordan at the $500 (minimum) blackjack table last night. Anyway, it looks like I didn't miss much JP3 news, though Bob from Hawaii Movie Tours sends word that it looks like filming has started up again in Hawaii: his employees report seeing explosions and smoke coming from the JP3 set last Wednesday, then later in the day they saw some equipment being moved from the mountains towards the ocean. "On the back of a semi, two musty colored jeeps were spotted," Bob says.

    Junior Novelisation
Robert Giddings noticed that the UK Amazon.com has listed the JP3 Junior Novelisation on their site, to be released June 8, 2001 and published (at least in the UK) by Boxtree. No word as to when it will come out here in the states.

T-Rex Battle in First 10 Minutes?
Hello from the Bahamas! I have a second between getting a tan and losing all my money in the casino to update... Tom was the first to send word that William H. Macy was on ET a few nights ago, who reported that the Rex will (spoilers!) "get its butt kicked" in the first 10 minutes of the movie. "It will redeem itself in the end though," Tom says.

    Signed JP3 Poster?
'DinahSaur14' points us to this very interesting item on Ebay, which is a 27x40" JP3 poster but apparently signed by Tea Leoni and William H. Macy. Obviously there's no way to confirm Leoni and Macy really did sign it, but if they did it's sure to be a collectable. The seller started the item at $10. Happy Bidding!

    Gone Fishin'
Off to the Bahamas I go tomorrow morning (insert your favorite Baha Men song here), so if you don't see any updates until next Sunday, that's why! Please continue to send me your JP3 news and fan art, and I'll catch up on everything when I return (or if I manage to get online somehow).

    More on the Hawaii Re-Shoot
Bob dropped in once again to provide some more info about the JP3 production returning to Hawaii. Apparently crews are coming into Kauai now, with the cast arriving Thursday, January 4th. Curiously, they're only scheduled to stay for three days, though Bob says, "I guess the art department has been here a couple of weeks." Along with other production crews (including Kevin Costner's new "Dragonfly" and a reality-TV show called "Manhunt"), Bob describes the action "very hectic -- all this activity at once is very noticeable."

    UK, Netherlands Release Dates
You British can expect to see JP3's dinosaurs the same weekend as us Americans -- July 21st -- according to the UK magazine "Total Film", and sent in by Mark Renwick. In addition, Mark adds that another British mag, "Empire" places JP3 at #8 in their "Biggest Films of 2001" list, "ahead of Mummy 2 and Pearl Harbor". [Update: While we're on the subject of release dates, Glen reports that the UIP release of JP3 in the Netherlands (and presumably other European countries as well) will be August 1st.]

    Greater Spielberg Involvement?
'Embryo' sends word that Spielberg was mentioned on his local TV news yesterday, with the story talking about his knighthood and his other projects. In addition, it was also mentioned that, "Steven is hard at work on his new dinosaur sequel..." Could this indicate Spielberg is currently focusing his attention on JP3?

    Site Slowness
I know about the problem with the site loading slowly, and hope to have it fixed soon. It may have to wait until Monday, however, since I'm sure the place where the server is located is buried under snow. In other site news, I just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be on vacation from January 2nd to the 7th, so expect fewer updates (probably none unless I can find a computer in the Bahamas) during that period. Have a happy new year!

    JP3 Production Returns to Hawaii
The unusually quiet Bob from Hawaii Movie Tours dropped me a quick note to say that he has confirmed that JP3 production has indeed been scheduled to return to Hawaii in mid-January, hopefully to finish what they started back in September.

    Spielberg to receive Honorary Knighthood
The American British Consulate announced today that Steven Spielberg will receive England's highest honor for a non-English citizen: an honorary knighthood, which he'll accept on January 29th in Washington, DC. According to his spokesman, Spielberg was obviously "enormously honored and humbled." In other Spielberg news, it was announced earlier this week that Spielberg will finally receive a star in 2001 on the prestgious Hollywood Walk of Fame -- personally, I can't believe it's taken this long.

    Strange Spinosaurs Coloring?
I got an interesting report from
Hanns Glock that for some odd reason, his local Austrian TV station ORF1 had a blurb about JP3 yesterday, which featured an interview with a make-up artist (Hanns thinks it was Shane McAllen, an art department asst.), who gave a sneak peek at several of JP3's animatronic dinosaurs, including a "3 metre long spinosaurs model". According to Hanns, "the coloration was interesting -- the body was light blue (or grey-blue), [with] the sail and parts of the neck brown or reddish. There were some dark blue or black stripes on the sail that reached to the middle of the spinos side."

    News from Universal
An informant over at Corona says they noticed lots of activity by Stage 27 last week, including a "huge forest set with lots of greenery, vines, and trees". In addition, he spotted some trailers for the stars, with names like "Amanda" (Tea Leoni) and "Grant" (Sam Neill) on them...

    Pics from Universal
MousePlanet.com has posted a few new shots of the cliff set at the Universal Hollywood backlot, which they report has recently been used for shooting at night. The pictures are about a month old (11/29), but interesting nonetheless. Click here for more. (Thanks 'Bowfinger')

    Happy Holidays!
Hope everyone is having a fun and safe holiday season. I remember it was four years ago today when I reported on my brand-new TLW website that I saw the Lost World teaser trailer before "Jerry McGuire" -- the film my family saw on our annual Christmas Day movie outing. This year, unfortunatly, there was no JP3 trailer before "Cast Away", but it was an entertaining movie anyway. I could have done without the corny and predicatable ending, but everything from the plane crash to the rescue ship was pure cinematic gold.

    Macy Speaks
JP3 star William H. Macy sat down the Canadian newspaper "The Globe and Mail" (the article is available here), speaking mostly about his new film State and Main, but also making a few mostly positive remarks about JP3. "Truthfully, I've never done one of these [action movies] and I've always wanted to. I don't know if I'd want to make a career out of it, but it's kind of astounding to watch... It's real moviemaking; The sets boggle the mind. There was one set...phenomenal, I couldn't believe how great it looked. Shot for only four days, and then they tore it down... That's what I love about this business. That 75 people will spend $7 million to build something we only use for four days." (Thanks Countingdown.com)

    Leoni Speaks
Talking about her role in The Family Man, JP3 star Tea Leoni is described as a "little hoarse from four months of screaming and running from dinosaurs." in this Chicago Sun-Times article from yesterday's edition. "It's one of the most fun projects ever," she says. "When you see the evolution of the animatronics and computer graphics, it's so impressive to see where it's come in the last seven years. Sometimes the most fun is watching the playback and watching us dodge and scream in terror from things that aren't there." (Thanks inGenNET)

    News From Universal
Well, either filming is nearing completion at Universal Studios, or they're changing sets around, since 'Scififann' reports that the smaller cliff used for JP3 filming in Soundstage 28 is ready to be removed. "No word if there will be another JP3 set placed inside." In addition, our informant spotted a large crane with a "t-rex head and neck" at the large outside cliff set -- "I haven't been able to find out if it was used in the film or just as a perspective guide [for the actors] like the cardboard heads on sticks used in the first film."

    Macy Changes His Tune
Appearing on Leno last night, JP3 star William H. Macy talked a little about JP3, being a bit more optimistic about the film than he was earlier in the week (Story). He said the film is going to be "great" and is working with some "talented people". "Yeah, It's phenomenal [to be working on JP3]. It's a franchise. It's like being asked to do another Star Wars." He goes on to talk about running from invisible dinosaurs: "I make three faces in the film.. like this one [makes a face]... To see the other two you'll have to buy a ticket." (Thanks 'Juttson' for the pic)

    JP3 Standees
Word comes from 'JP3me' that according to a friend who works at a theater in California, the JP3 standees (the big movie displays you see at theaters) and other promotional items have come in, but have been marked "Do not open until February." Apparently they just couldn't resist, however, and describes one of the standees as a "stand with some bushes and a big eye looking towards you.. There is also a talking device hooked up to it to make sound effects. [It makes the sound of] a dinosaur roar, then you hear a boy say, 'Where did I land?'".

Leoni on Leno, Other JP3 Cast Appearances
She used a body double for the shower scene in 'Family Man' As expected, not much mention of JP3 from Tea Leoni last night on Leno, though she did have an injury to her finger (it looked broken), which she said she got while working on JP3. She didn't seem too interested in talking to Jay about anything else JP3-related, however. Don't forget to watch William H. Macy on Leno Thursday night. In addition, Leoni will appear on Live with Regis tomorrow (the 20th), and on the Rosie O'Donnell Show on Friday. (Thanks 'TVBrains213' and 'TheJPExpert')

    More Macy Madness
    More criticisms from
William H. Macy about the production troubles JP3 has gone though in an article on TV Guide Online today, which relates Macy's sentiments from yesterday, but adds a few new tidbits (presumably this is all from the same interview, which was shared by various newspapers). Described as "mad as a caged Raptor" about the delays, Macy comments about the lack of a script, saying that "the script has been evolving and being rewritten as we go." In addition, he rants about how slow production on the film is moving, "roughly a quarter of a page of script per day." It'll be interesting to see if he continues this on national television Thursday night (when he'll appear on Leno). (Thanks Tom)

    Australian Release Date
Good news for you Aussie's -- 'Embryo' from JP: The Trilogy has confirmed from his local theater manager that JP3 will be arriving in the land down under on July 26th, 2001 (that is, of course, if everything sticks to schedule)

    Uh-Oh, Macy Takes a Swipe at JP3
"Who launched a $100 million ship without a rudder? And who's getting fired for this?," says William H. Macy in a candid NY Post article published in today's edition. "But that's the way it goes with these movies. I think someone should be shot, but you know, I'm not in charge." As you may remember, problems have plagued the JP3 production in the past, especially during the Hawaii shoot (Story), though recently we haven't heard anything as bad as this, especially from the usually upbeat Macy (Story). However, he does go on to suggest that there may be a glimmer of hope for JP3: "There will be a moment [in the film] that will bring all of us to our knees, a Frank Capra moment where we're so childishly delighted in the magic that just happened." Still.. yikes. (Originally repoted at CountingDown.com, thanks 'Carter')

    More Webcast Shots
But Dan, the webcast was like, a few weeks ago. Well, no matter, 'Embryo' from JP: The Trilogy has graciously provided a few more high-quality shots of the webcast, for those of us whose internet connection prohibits getting more than a few blurry frames:

    'A Studio is Born'
Not related to JP3, but I've been meaning to mention this very cool original short-documentary/promo trailer about the first few years of Dreamworks Pictures, created by our very own Glen from Las Cinco Muertes.
