    News From Universal
'Scififann' (who apparently works at Universal) wanted to add some information about this picture in particular, posted here a few weeks back. These metal cages (right) are actually "sections of a cat walk that are now assembled on a cliff face currently in soundstage 28..." This smaller cliff is "curved [and has] a reddish clay color, similar to what was erected in the back lot, with the cat walk on the side of cliff face with dips and climbs similar to a roller coaster." Unlike some of the other props, he says, "This cat walk looks very new and was not aged to look as if it had been on the island very long." (Image originally from Countingdown.com)

    JP3 Trailer on German TV?
Neo_Maze from InGenNET (who is leaving today to become an air force ace, btw) reports that the German TV network RTL will be "showing footage from the JP3 teaser trailer" during their airing of TLW on Nov. 19. Whether this is a new trailer or not known.

    JP+TLW DVD Sales
The results from last week's DVD sales are in, with the JP+TLW DVDs slipping to fourth and seventh place, respectivly, replaced by the excellent Toy Story 2 Pack. The JP+TLW collection is still holding strong at #8. (Thanks Las Cinco Muertes). In similar news, Seagram, Universal Studio's parent corporation, brags that the JP DVD's shipped 2.5 million units in the first two weeks of their release in their 1Q earnings report.

    Filming at LA Studios
According to IGN FilmForce, the JP3 production has moved to another location in LA, filming a few days (including today) at "Center Bay Studios", a small studio elsewhere in the city. Center Bay is, according to their website, a "raw" space for filming, and features a big warehouse and a very photographic roof (right). Which location JP3 will use, and for what purpose, is anyone's guess. (Thanks 'Carter')

    Plot Speculation
This month's Cinema magazine (published in Germany) contains a small blurb about JP3, sent to me by '#1Samfan'. No word as to where this magazine got their information (this "Grant as a drunk" rumor has been mentioned before), so salt this plot summary to taste:

"... The new film plays timewise between 'Jurassic Park' and 'The Lost World.' Sam Neill portrays the paleontologist Alan Grant again [who] is, at the beginning of the action, a boozy wreck. He stands before his fragments of existence. Abandoned from wife (Laura Dern) and child, he has not outgrew the trauma from the Isla Nublar. But the shadows of the past fetch him. A dramatic rescue which he could not evade because of personal motivs, force him back to the Dino-Island. For the time being are no other details known. ..."

    Major Scene "Scrapped", Says Insider
A "reliable source" dropped MovieHeadlines.net a note with word that a "major chase scene for JP3 has been scrapped recently," and as a result, we'll probably be seeing Hasbro toys (Story) relating to that scene on shevles come April, since they have already been produced. With all the script problems and revisions that went on earlier in production, this really is no surprise. (Thanks Mark)

    Happy Halloween
Okay, when the only thing you have is a story that Sam Neill has leased a Bel-Air home in LA for three months while he's there shooting JP3, (LA Times) and some rumor mongering crap about the logosaurus from Corona (they still seem to think it's a "Giganotosaurus"), you know it's a slow news day [Update: Spoke too soon]. Frankly, I wish I was 10 again so I could dress up like Chairman Kaga and get free candy tonight. But I digress. In site news, you might notice that the DansJP3Page Messenger now allows you to send messages to people who are offline, which they'll receive the next time they come back to the site. There's a few new pictures in the Fan Art section too.

    JP3 "Hotlink"
'Gallimimus' noticed that JurassicPark.com has been updated with a "Direct Hotlink" button. When you click it, a message pops up saying to "Check back often for details about upcoming events... This event is tentatively scheduled during the first two weeks of December 2000... More details to follow! Stay tuned!"

    Cliff Mystery Revealed
Well, once again Bob from Hawaii Movie Tours has has put to rest the questions regarding the large cliff currently being built at Universal Studios in Hollywood (right). So what exactly will the cliff be used for? Well, according to Bob, a scene to be filmed there at the end of November involves (highlight to read) "Paul chasing after Billy, [who] jumps from the cliff. Billy, who has a parasail, becomes flying bait for the Pteranodons. Billy's parasail gets snagged on a rocky ledge and he struggles to get out of the harness." Another scene, he says, "shows Amanda, Paul, Grant and Eric jumping from the cliff (I assume with parasails) and landing in the river. The group emerges on the other side of Aviary [the] meshing."

    Taylor Nichols Joins Cast
Taylor Nichols (The Last Days of Disco, Congo) has joined the cast of JP3, according to this morning's Variety. I remember Nichols best in his role as "Harry Reynard" in last year's excellent (and overlooked) Boiler Room. No word as to what character he will play in JP3. (Thanks 'GoldblumRules' and Tom)

    Another Shot of the Airfield
Mike from Hawaii Film and Celebrity Tours sent along another nice picture of the filming of JP3 at Dillingham Airfield on Oahu last month, putting things in perspective a little more -- you can see that shooting was taking place on this dirt auxiliary runway. The high viewpoint, btw, is thanks to Mike's trek six miles into the mountains to get a clear shot of the action.

    Dan's JP3 Page Messenger
Okay, here's something I threw together that I thought you might like: The brand-new Dan's JP3 Page Messenger, where you can send instant messages to other people browsing the site right now! It's pretty easy to use, so try it out and make a friend. Just click the link over there on the right that says "[ users online]", select a user to send a message to, and click Send! It takes a little while for the user to get the message and respond, so give it a minute or so. And, of course, if you spot any bugs, comments, complaints, etc., drop me a message at splat@nac.net.

No Muren?! And Other Crew News
Cinefex.com, the online edition of the visual effects trade publication of the same name has updated its website with word that Jim Mitchell (Sleepy Hollow, Mars Attacks!, and a CG artist on JP) will serve as VFX supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic, and not the infamous Dennis Muren, who had held that position on the previous two JP films. Also on the site we see a new name: Ed Verreaux (Mission to Mars, Contact), listed as Production Designer (Rick Carter was production designer on JP + TLW), and the name Shelly Johnson popping up again as DP. (Thanks IGN FilmForce)

You can actually pre-order sets of these babies on their website (for a pretty penny), click here. Here's the whole list.. there are some minor spoilers below about which dinosaurs we might be seeing in the film, so if you don't want to know, skip this story:

Strange how this list still calls the kid in the film "Miles", when we heard his name has been changed to "Eric". This might be because Hasbro based the toys on an early version of the script.. (Thanks inGenNET and Ina Choi)

    Photos From Hawaii
The webmaster of Hawaii Film and Celebrity Tours on Oahu (not to be confused with Bobs' Hawaii Movie Tours on Kauai) let me know that he has posted four pictures of the JP3 production on Oahu a few months back on his website. One of which (right), was taken at Dillingham Airfield, where the airport scene we've heard so much about will take place. "The other three were taken at Manoa Falls, a spectacular area about 15 minutes from Honolulu where a stairway and bridge were built that allowed the actors to get into the middle of a beautifull rainforest," he says.

More on the Occidental College Filming
"The Occidential", the school paper at Occidential College in LA, published this story on the JP3 filming that took place at the school last week. As reported here (story), the scene filmed featured Dr. Grant giving a lecture to a group of students, though the article does add a few extra tidbits: The scene will occur early in the movie, and has Grant giving a palentological lecture to students at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The filming itself, says the Occidential, only took one day and was completed on schedule by 8:00p.m.. (Thanks MovieHeadlines.net)

    News From Universal, New inGenNET!
One of Harry's spies got a chance to take a look around the Universal set last Thursday:

"The Visitor's Center was covered in mud and fallen trees. There were a couple of SUV-type vehicles, both totally covered in mud, parked outside. Huge branches and leaves covered the surrounding grounds... There was also a huge Cliffside being constructed. This thing was gigantic! It must have been a half a mile in circumference and the cliffside itself stood about 150-200 feet high."
This news thanks to the newly-redesigned inGenNET -- be sure to check it out when you get a chance...

    About the Universal Cliff
Wondering why they built that gigantic cliff (see below for pic) at Universal instead of just doing it with CGI? 'Dinolvr79' has an idea.. According to him, while on a tour at Universal recently, the tour guide said that the cliff will actually be a "large waterfall" (and thus, impossible to do with CGI) used during "one of the most exciting scenes in the movie."

    JP DVD Sales Stats
The DVD Billboard sales chart for last week is in, and as expected, the various versions of the JP DVD's appear on top: The JP DVD's have taken 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 9th places, with the Jurassic Park DVD at number 2, followed closly by the Jurassic Park/The Lost World Collection in third. It's probably safe to say that if not for all the different versions of the DVD's, JP would have easily taken first place. (Saw this on Las Cinco Muertes)

    Even More Pictures from Universal
The website MousePlanet.com, which tracks news about the major California theme parks, posted a trip report to Universal Studios earlier this month, featuring some really nice shots of the JP3 sets under construction. Interestingly, the reporter calls the set the "Jurassic Park Visitor's Center" and says that "[it] has been built to look like it's been bombed out / neglected since it was abandoned in the first film." (Thanks 'Scififann')

    More Pictures from Universal
Over at Countingdown.com they've posted a few more images from the backlot set of JP3 at Universal Studios, where shooting seems to have been completed, at least for now: "The shooting at Site B now appears to be complete, or wrapped up for the most part, but now there is additional construction on the cliff area," their source says.

    Salty Bacteria
'Armargasaur' pointed me towards this real life news story, which details a successful experiment by scientists to "reawaken" bacteria from a 250-million-year-old piece of salt. "`Jurassic Park' was neat, but this beats it hands down," said one geologist. Hmm.. I can see it now: 250 million year old deadly bacteria re-awakened by crazed scientist.

    JP3 Trailer Before "The Grinch"?
inGenNET is reporting that according to a "credible source", a JP3 teaser trailer is scheduled to be attached to the German release of "Dinosaur" on November 16th, which might indicate that it'll play before Universal's release of The Grinch on the 17th (a wise move, if I do say so myself). No word on whether it's the same teaser on the DVD's.
