    Hammond's Dream Ch.9
    By Amber

    DX

August fifth. In ten days Philips would be heading for Site B. It wasn’t a good time for Julio to be having second thoughts about their mission. Philips sat in Julio’s kitchen working on his second bottle of Corona. He sat and thought about what Julio just said.
“Wait a minute. We work on this plan for two years. Two years, and you want to back out now!” Philips growled.

Julio sat in his condominium. He ran through the entire plan, bit by bit, many times. With every piece carefully placed, the plan worked. Everything must go as scheduled. Just like any piece of machinery, their were many small parts, and if one of those parts failed, it could be disastrous.
The first major mistake was not destroying the island when they first learned about it. Their second mistake, letting it’s knowledge get out. No more mistakes could take place. It was bad enough when the American couple were stranded on the island. The Kirbys were forced to stay in Costa Rica for two months. Alan Grant was paid a hefty amount to keep quiet about the subject for a second time. All knowledge of the Kirby’s journey to the island was forgotten. The American rescue crew was taken care of, and the parasailing boat was never found. It’s crew lost as well. This time, there would be no more mistakes. This time it would be flawless.

The air in the room was damp. Julio kicked off his shoes, suddenly feeling hot. He looked around at his walls. Probably needing another paint job soon. Vivaldi’s ‘Four seasons’ played softly from Julio’s sound system. Classical music some how had a way of soothing his nerves. Julio watched Philips finish the bottle and toss in the trash basket.

“Scott, we don’t have to do it if we know the disease is controlled. It’s to risky to pull off. If we know it’s in control we don’t even have to go through with it.” Julio explained.
“Listen to me. That disease is way to serious. We can’t fool around with it any longer. We have to deal with this now. There are to many new cases of this encephalitis. If we don‘t deal with it now, then what? We wait, then game over.”
“These are peoples lives Scott! This isn’t a game.”
“I know that. We all know that. We know what we’re doing.” Philips looked like a mess. His shirt unbuttoned and his hair unkempt. He was sweating bullets. The room was dark. He had a headache.
“Scott. Hear me out. Antonio and I have agreed. We should go back to the original plan. First we check out the facility. Learn about the DX. See how far it’s gotten. For God’s sake, you came up with it in the beginning”. Julio persisted.
Philips wiped his forehead and stayed silent for a moment. “We can check it out. If that is what you guys think is best, we’ll check it out.”
“Good, then check it out first. Just promise me that. You know what to do.” “What about the planning?” Philips said.
“Antonio and I will take care of it. We will set up everything. Just check it out first. You check out the island and we’ll take care of the rest.” Julio said.
“Alright. But. I’m going to need vehicles and supplies. Can you have them ready in ten days? We’re leaving on the fifteenth, and no later.”
“They’ll be ready in six.” Julio smiled.
    “Good.”
“But what about the others?” Julio asked.
“I’ll inform my team when the time is right. Remember, they’re playing by our rules. This time, we win.”
