Dr. Harding and Dr. Wu have only tiny parts in JP: The Movie, while in Crichton's book they were far more important to the plot. (From: 'Vito')

    Excellent visuals!

That King gets on my nerves so good writing.Grimbley and Rowan are sure to cross paths sooner or later, I feel. I can't wait. Great job.

Rowan has loads of depth - and I think the strongest depth to his character is that he is NOT a hero. Just someone wrapped up in a war who got lucky and all he wants to do is put it behind him. That shows so much depth.

Again the writing style matches the genre perfectly so whilst it is still fresh like so much cornbread and venison I shall set upon my queste to reade the chapter of three..

Oooo. Well, I didn't really find much enjoyment in the first chapter, but I thought this second chapter was a really big step in the right direction. I liked it, I liked it a lot. Probably because there's more character stuff to it, instead of just background on a place and time.

I really like Rowan, too. I think he's cool, like the quiet, serious hero type. I'm interested to see how his venture turns out.

But most of all, I liked Wendell. I thought the scene with him was the best part of the chapter. And I'm happy he's going to come along, so that he'll be in more of the story! I really liked the bits about asking dragons questions, hehe.

My favorite line in the whole chapter though was this:
'And so it was that Rowan came to be in the company of a half-blind, grizzled old man whose brow was constantly furrowed and who answered every question as if it were even more stupid than the last.'

One sentence and I know exactly what kind of guy Wendell is, and know how to read his dialogue and everything. Nice.

    Good stuff, Teach.

Great plot, great characters, great detail, great dialouge.

If this story was a guy, I'd marry him.

    Err..

    Another good chapter!

I really like Rowan. He's a very stand-up guy ... a true hero I think. I feel sort of worried though! He knows nothing about what he's hunting, so I hope he's able to stay alive, at least for a while.

On the other hand, I don't like King Gerald! But ... that's probably because I'm not supposed to, so good job there! hehe

His wife seems to have her head on straight though, so at least he has someone to look after him.

Lastly, I'm wondering if Grim and Rowan will somehow team up soon. Can't wait to read more!

Excellent job here. Again, bravo on using all the words and sayings from that time. :)

Well it's an issue that all authors deal with, and there really is no perfect way of getting around it. How do you stroll into the meaty part of the story quickly enough to satisfy the reader...but at the same time long enough to establish a background on the story. Personally, I think it's an impossible task - You either choose to prolong the main part of the story and lose the readers interest in time - or you stroll right in and please the reader, but the reader just feels that something is...unfulfilled? I think that's a good word to use.

Anyways, it's a very minor complaint and it hasn't affected my experience at all.

    Thanks, Carna and Texasraptor!

I'm glad you find Rowan likeable...I'm still not sure :)

I, too, felt that some things moved a little too quickly, but decided it was best to get Rowan's party on the road. Perhaps I was wrong?

Grimbley...ah, yes, young Grimbley. Looking forward to revealing more about him as well as Rowan in the coming chapters.

Thanks again for the feedback, and stay tuned!

Fantastic piece of writing here, Teach. I find Rowan to be an extremely likeable chracter. Yes, the groundwork for his lead role as a tired warrior has been used plenty of times, but it still doesn't stop me from having a very keen interest in the man. Excellent dialogue throughout, and I noticed quite a bit more description in this chapter - I have an outstanding visual of the Realm in my head. The quick summoning and departure of Rowan and the Kings Army irked me, but to very little extent. I can't wait to learn more about the Grimbley character - nor can I anticipate the next installment enough!

    Excellent work, again.
