Remember, Natural Selection, Variation, Speciation, and so on. But remember, NATURAL SELECTION. Species are not "born" with new kinds of abilities and physical features. Darwin's theory of Natural Selection simply implies "Survival Of The Fittest" Only the strong survive--say there are three species of girafe. The tall necks, the medium necks, and the short necks--let's say the girafes eat all of the low plantlife, and there's no more. Who dies out? The short necks. The medium necked girafes somehow struggle to eat the medium height plantlife in a field. But once that is finished, who dies out? The medium necks--BUT, THE LONG NECKS, do they die out? No, no... They were able to eat both the low plantlife, the medium plantlife, and the tall plantlife... The longnecks continue to thrive, and we have the theory of NATURAL SELECTION. There it is... I just think that maybe you should imply something more like this gentre into your prologue...
