Very cool episode Ben. Loved the pirate theme and loved how everyone is dressing the part, too.
While reading this one, I found out that I've missed your take on the series. With three episodes in a row written by other people (I think that's right), I've just missed the humor you inject into scenes.
And this episode was no exception. Here's some of my favorites:
Host: He would have killed me, but he saw my potential and he has me under some control spell. River: Dac. Host: What about stupid? River: He had Dac in a control spell. (hehe)
~~~~~~
Michelle: We can't go. Ben: Why? Michelle: Pirate ships, direct sunlight, swords flying all over the place. It just reeks of dust. (lol)
And then seconds later: Falcon: Well if you must know I drank the blood, but I was hungry! It did nothing to me. Shane: Eww. Falcon: Vampire?
(Falcon rules!!)
~~~~~~
Ben: And if you kill them, throw the bodies over board – I don't want any dead bodies on my ship! (LoL!)
~~~~~~
And then a very serious line: Devin: No crying..the world is against you..no crying..I love you.
Nicely done, Ben.
Let the pirate games begin! Arrr! Woo!
In a word: AWESOME!
It was actually in season 4 when I put Le Chuck (the villain pirate from the Monkey Island gaming series) in the story and I wanted to do more with that kind of piracy. So after seeing Pirates of the Caribbean, I decided it was a good idea.
I didn't like the whole Devin death scene - but needed to be addressed is that Ben can get to emotional over stuff, so when Devin said "No crying….the world is against you…no crying….I love you." That kind of pushed the character for Ben to stop being such a sissy.
I did like the way I ended the episode with Devin and Joan watching their two children sail away - but it's again Devin, with the crucial lines here, foretelling a prophecy of the Slayer.
As for Bob with all of the old Big Bad's on his ship - well - I'm pulling out all the stops for the finale! :)
Thanks again for all your support, Slayerettes.
Well. . .while I must say the whole pirate theme started out very corny and ridiculous, I warmed up to it and eventually grew to love it by the episode's end. Kind of taking the story in a new direction, and into new 'waters'.
Anywho, I liked this episode overall. And I must say, I'm actually kinda happy to see ol' Host joining sides with the good guys (or "jumping ships" as you once so eloquently put it, hehe). And now Devin's dead, but he's all Obiwan-like. . . cool, hehe.
I look forward to the next!
