I really like your idea. You were able to turn a somewhat "tired" fan fiction plot into something very interesting by building new characters and by giving it a new feel. I also liked how you explained Grant's past relationships in the beginning. The pace of this first chapter is one of the high points. It smoothly spins out the story just enough so that who ever reads it can piece together the information. Very cool story so far. I can't wait for the next chapter!
