Interesting forcast spino2000. considering that would make it the second highest grossing movie all time (falling short of Titanic's $600 million, blah). Jp3 will need to make $140 million just to make the top 100 highest grossing movies, which under my predictions is next weekend!.

Yeah, I contributed $5.25 to that! (Ticket prices in Florida are cheap). I saw the first showing in all of Sarasota!!! That movie kicked ass!!!

So far this summer no one movie has been a runaway hit. JP3 has the best shot at doing so. I've heard mixed reviews as well but I have heard positive reviews from unlikely sources: critics and even some friends who hate movies like this.

They are saying that JP3 is fun because it's not at all pretentious or preachy like the other two. And it practically screams for a JP4. By not showing us the Spino one last time, we're left wanting more of his bad ass.

I think it will get pretty good word of mouth and folks like me will see it more than once to take in all the FX eye candy. It should do at least as well if not moreso worldwide than TLW.

That's just my humble prediction however.

Actually, I have a strong suspicion that I will enjoy the second viewing even more than the first. That theme park ride analogy is pretty darned accurate! =)

I think that, with all the worrying about what's gonna be in and what's not and, of course, the whole "Oh, God, I hope this doesn't suck, please let it not suck" factor, out of the way with the first showing, I'll be able to just sit back and enjoy the show the second time through. I suspect that it'll be the same way for most of us fans. The second viewing is gonna be way better. =)

forecasts for wednesday were $10-11M. it doubled that. since this like a Universal theme park ride, repetitive viewing will be hige among kids and teenagers. I expect $100M by Monday and $250M in the end in the US. Japan will be big, they love dino-monsters movie. expect $50M easy there if not more. Europe should well too. I see$500M worldwide easy. 3 more JP have been decided by Universal. I hope they release JP IV ( but boderline of PG-13, close to R) in 2003. they should go ahead fast and not wait 4 years.

20 million a day times 5 is 100 million! I expect there to be some gains over the weekend when people are off work. It might even break TLW's opening record. You never know.

55%- not surprised. Reactions to this film seem pretty split both in the critics field and the public's. I myself loved it, found it INCREDIBLY enjoyable and looked at it in awe and terror almost equal to JP1. Neill was my favorite character (other than the Kirby parents) and loved his performance in the first scene. Found it sad that he and Dr. Sattler are not together- seems shes settled down. Anyway, I really liked it and found the predictable character development acceptable and likeable. So- I liked it. That aside- the critics at Rotten Tomatoes are 34 good to 29 bad. Seems 50/50- and at the IMDb MANY people don't like it- but look at the poll here- almost EVERYONE who voted liked it. So- it's not surprising.

At 10:29:21 PM on 7/19/2001, JPIII said:
EXACTLY 50/50 GOOD/BAD REVIEWS ON ROTTEN TOMATOES! GEEZ! Yup- It's a clean, straight split. Who thinks that if there wasn't a Jurassic Park 1 or 2 that this would be getting better reviews? The consensus is that there is too much of a "been there, done that" feeling"- I disagree and thought this to be a pretty cool as well as wonderous sequel. WOW- Never seen such a split in reactions before!

The two shows on opening day that I went to were pretty much packed. I am so glad to see this movie doing so well. I am going to go help it out again this weekend!!! Universal take this as a sign, a fourth installment is a neccesity.

The showing I went to yesterday was at 3:00 p.m. and it was packed. I can't wait to see how it does over the weekend:)

Woo hoo! I agree with you sugardaddy so much. I was just listening to Access Hollywood and all of the sudden they talk about the surprise success of JP3 and I just about fliped out! I was so happy, and I too admit I wasn't expecting it (even though I hoped it!). JP3 deserves that though because it was such an awesome movie. By the way, I too wish it was a bit longer, but on the show they had a point; the short movie means more screenings in a day, and more money! Sweet. Hafta wait till Saturday to see it again. I'm excited all over again.

Wow, this is so exciting. I can't believe they were finally able to make a JP seqel that A) lived up to the Jurassic Park name (the name it had before TLW)and B)is what the fans wanted. Joe johnston is my god. Although things never go beyond trilogy's, who knows?! The fourth could have a great (off island) plot! and yes, i hope it is the last, too.

p.s. The reviews for it are great. For instance, a friend of mine (who LOATHED The Lost World) left the theater with a smile on his face. He turned to me and said "Now THATS" how you make a sequel to Jurassic Park!"

WOOHOO! I'm so happy, for some reason! Maybe cause I love seeing the JP franchise get money. If this continues, there's a good chance we'll have a JP4 to look forward too! Okay, people, come on, lets all start rooting for a JP4 and relive the experience of waiting for this movie! WOOHOO!!!!!!

Incredible. I thought everyone but the die-hard fans would be totally apathetic. ;) I guess I was wrong!

Ah, well, it's hard to resist a good dinosaur movie, I guess. Which is good for us, because it means that we get to have another one soon. Yay! =)

At 6:42:10 PM on 7/19/2001, JPNerd said:
That's great news. The theater I saw it in last night was only about 2/3 full, even though a few showings had long lines to get in. I was skeptical about how much money this would make, given the fact that this is a mid-week opening and some people were turned off by The Lost World(which I liked). If this keeps going, the movie should be well on its way to making over $100 million, which would not be much of a profit considering the massive budget, but in Hollywood, passing $100 million means that there will be a sequel. I plan on seeing it at least one more time, and I can't wait for the next and hopefully final JP movie.

Sweet! Right now my JP3 stock on hsx.com has skyrocketed 53%! I'm gonna see it again this weekend.

    I wouldn't have seen JP3 without this page. ;) Thank you raptor0o7.

For some comparison, TLW took in $22 million in its first day, which was a record at the time. However, since it was a Friday, and this was a Wednesday, you can't really compare.

Actually raptor0o7, no disrespect to Dan, but I think a lot of people that came to this page would have seen JP3 whether this page existed or not. They were attracted to this page because it was about Jurassic Park. At least I was anyway, guess I can't speak for everybody.

Wow. When I saw the tally, I don't know..it almost felt like I won something. I'm really proud of the movie and I'm so happy it's doing well. I honestly thought it wouldn't because, well, NO ONE I know has pleasant memories of The Lost World. But this movie is a lot better and I can't wait to see it again.

LoL, and with dan's 1 million plus site visiters going on the 1st day, at $6.50 a pop, that makes Dan responsible for...$6,500,000.00 worth, so if it wasnt for Dan Dan the JP Man, JP/// would have only made $12,524,360.00! Go Dan! (Yes, I do have a calculator sitting in front of me, lol..)
