"hey did they do a T-rex/raft scene in JP?Or was that just in the book?", it was supposedly done, or at least attempted, but Spielberg was not happy with it, no matter how they did it, the T-Rex tongue looked too much like Dino's from The Flintstones, too cartoony, so they dropped the scene, and never finished it,

Alright, no problem. We just take our DVDs very seriously and can be impulsive about them as well (which might explain why I have so many of them). : )

yeah i know what commentary is....and yes i know what DVDs are...and i know you can't have that type of commentary on VHS...what i was thinking of at the time was like ive seen at the end of tapes when the directeor will talk and when he talks about a scen they show it abd then show him talking...and deleted scenes you can just insert into the movie itself...like in TLW showing on NBC that one time...but in retrospect, just disregard what the hell i was saying cuz sometimes i don't know what the hell i am thinking sometimes cuz i am very impulsive...and i was being a major jackass...heh heh heh heh... n_n'

Faulkner, do you know what a commentary is?

It's on the DVD and the movie plays while directors and SFX people talk. Not a brief interview.

It can be turned on and off, before you bash DVD know what you are talking about.

eh i like the no deleted scenes thing...every scene shot or meant to be shown should be in every form of the movie...i don't care if you think it makes DVDs "special"...cuz i mean ya can easily add deleted scenes or a commentary at the end or beginning of a VHS...but instead of a fancy menu you just use the magical fast-forward button...what a intrigueing concept...if Joe no want "deleted" scenes and a commentary on a DVD of the movie he directed, then he won't have it...and you oughta respect that decision and leave the poor guy alone...

There's another non-JP-related story about Joe's DVD's.. there was a bit of a bit of a controversy over the October Sky DVD -- the packaging advertised a director's commentary when there wasn't one on the disc itself. According to Joe, he did record a commentary for the film, but for whatever reason it didn't make it on the DVD. So (and this is just my editorializing here), the DVD-creation process may have left a bad taste in his mouth..

Yeah, that's nice, and most of his comments are very helpful, but these grossly fail to portray the reality in Hollywood, where studio's usually DEMAND shorter times, and often do have final cut in the contract (or the producer does).

So there's plenty of good reason for Director's Cuts. Joe's lucky.

You know, Joe, often the studio DOES have the final cut.

Also, often, it's the studio that fights harder for scenes to be cut, as in the case of films like 'Aliens.'

These quotes don't really portray Joe very well... he comes off rather ignorant today.
