I'm not trying to impose, but I said that because I feel ripped off when almost half of the recorded things in a movie are taken away. I feel like I'm missing something. A good example is the movie <i>Face/Off</i>.

Ridley Scott uses 2.35:1 for all of his other movies, yet kept the ratio running in the sequel <i>Hannibal</i>.

To the person who says that sucks for VCR owners...um no it wont...they format the movies to fit on your TV..so its not going to have the widescreen black bars on the top when u watch it on VHS...they formatt all movies to make them fit your TV...i personally hate watching a movie in widescreen cause the black bars annoy me.

The trailer before Pearl Harbor is in 2.35:1 ! I hope that the final movie will be in 2.35:1 too.

2:35 is much better, then you don't have the subtitles in the movie itself but in the blank area, you didn't think of that did you!

Yep its definitly cropped. Check out that scene from the first trailer. You can see a Parasaurolophus in the bottom of the frame, and its missing from the publicity shot. Go to the last frame of that shot in the Trailer. I've got a pretty good feeling that the trailer aspect ratio will be the film ratio: 1.85:1

Different aspect ratios is not good. It screws up the whole look of the series. This picture may have actually been cropped to look this way, much the same way panoramic pictures work- the top and bottom is cut off.

Horizon, I think you're pretty close. It looks a bit wider than the "Scope" format (2.35:1). Since it is a press picture one can't be sure if they cropped it down a little to give it a "wider angle."

Yes, both Jurassic Park and The Lost World were shot in Flat (1.85:1), which sucks because most action-related movies are shot in Scope (it gives you a greater angle on the action). Since both trailers have been in the Flat format (even on Scope movies like Mummy Returns and Pearl Harbor), I'm pretty sure that the final film will be in the 1.85:1 ratio.

A couple of you guys seem a little confused with the whole aspect ratio thing. Here's a really good web-site that will answer a lot of your questions: http://www.widescreen.org/index.html

Actually, different Aspect Ratios for sequels is nothing new. Aliens was 1:85, while the other three Alien movies (including the original) were all 2:35. The Halloween films have also changed ARs, going from 2:35 (1,2,3) to 1:85 (4,5,6) and now back again with 1997's H20 and the upcoming Part 8. There might be some other examples, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Ultimately, the AR is chosen by the director, so if Johnston likes 2:35 then that's what he'll use. Remember, Spielberg told Joe to ignore what he did with the first two JPs and do his own movie. So, it's a good bet that JP3 will be 2:35. Either way, I'm there on opening night!

LOL! That aspect will suck for those VCR owners when it comes out! Hehe...tapes are so primitive.

Really, the only way to get around the blank space on the TV screen is to get a wide screen Television. The bars are there, just not as pronounced.

I'm not sure, but that shot looks wider than 2.35:1. More 2.76:1, any ideas?

Click the widescreen picture! Get your asses on that site, the raptor vs. people in cage scene is a whole lot more discernable! It's Billy and Amanda holding the door, they must be in different cages.

We just gotta wait for what Joe says.

    <i>The Rocketeer, Jumanji,</i> and <i>October Sky</i> were all in 2.35:1.

Neat, a new thing for sequels! Different ARs!

I didn't want to go into the technical specifics, but the point is 2:35 <i>appears</i> wider in most theaters, as the picture takes up the entire wall (At least, at my theater). Personally, I like 2:35 best when watching it on theaters, but on DVDs it can be a bit annoying at first since they're so much blank space on the TV screen.

I've always liked 2:35 better, but I think they should keep the continuity. And trailers for even 2:35 movies are almost always 1:85. I don't think the film is in 2:35 though, because the 1:85 print of the trailer shows more of the top and the bottom than the "altered" trailer shown before The Mummy Returns, and 2:35 doesn't do that - the picture simply is more.

Thats not true 2:35:1 isn't wider it's exactly the same as 1:85:1 apart from its not as tall. It looks like a thin strip. This shouldn't of happened they shoud all be the same ratio.
