I hope the DVD release will be of the newer Ultimate Editions from Universal. That being a 2-disc edition with DTS/DD5.1 sound, Anamorphic Widescreen, and a ton of extras including a commentary by Joe Johnston, making of featurette, etc. It would be awesome if it were an Ultimate Edition. It took Jurassic Park a year and a half before it hit video. The actual month it hit the shelves was September of 1994. It was in theatres for almost a full year, and then there was an add campaign for the video for a few months.
I don't know about Lost World, I doubt that took as long to hit video as JP.

Now onto the subject. DVD coming out in Dec. That's pretty cool. How long did it take for Jurassic Park and Lost World to make it to DVD? Long enough. I guess this is a good thing.
