Other comments from the fake critic were used in ad copy for ``Hollow Man'' and ``Vertical Limit,'' the magazine said.
Susan Tick, a spokeswoman for Columbia's parent Sony Pictures Entertainment, could not be reached for immediate comment, but was quoted by Newsweek as confirming the reviews were concocted, which she called ``an incredibly foolish decision.''
Sony Pictures Entertainment, the movie making arm of Sony Corp (news - web sites)., has pulled ads that contain the fabricated quotes although some newspapers had already included them in editions this weekend, Newsweek said.
In the ad copy Manning is identified as a movie reviewer for The Ridgefield Press, a family-owned weekly in a small Connecticut town.

Yes studios try to create an online buzz to benefit their films, and some of the information we get is probably just marketing. At the same time there are a lot of people trying to enforce unfounded negative attention on these films as well. It’s silly the believe every good review, every glowing endorsement is a shallow attempt on the studio’s part for bloating box office numbers. Because Dan does not jump to those conclusions without the facts to support them it does not make him a puppet. Because you do does not make you a crusader for truth.

Secondly, I am not being "bought" by Universal. When this movie comes out, I'll post a review of it which may be negative. As a fan of Jurassic Park, I'm hoping it won't be negative, but I'm not going to ruin my credibility as a "reporter" (since that's really what I'm trying to do here, more or less) by just posting something Universal wants me to pots.
This is a very important issue to me, so I'm glad someone brought it up. I will not be bought. If Universal decides to send me to a press junket or something, I will insist on paying partially.
Doing these websites is what got me into journalism. I'm a journalism major at college, believe it or not and we discuss these kinds of issues in my classes, and I indend to do everything properly. I believe I have so far. As I said above, this is just a shirt promoting the site, which just so happens to be about an upcoming movie. It is not ment to be an advertisement for Universal at all.
