Of those movies, I feel thonly one that could do it is JP3. But for some reason I'm kinda doubting that.

As for Matrix 2 & Episode 2 -- its a pretty darn good possibility.

Personnaly my favorite so far is the 1st one then I think it will be the 3rd one then TLW. Since Pearl Harbor didn't make it, next will be:
    Tomb Raider
    Chance to beat TLW 2/5

    Evolution
    Chance to beat TLW 3/5

    A.I. Artificial Intelligence
    Chance to beat TLW 4/5

    Scary Movie, The Sequel
    Chance to beat TLW 4/5

    Jurassic Park 3
    Chance to beat TLW 4/5

    American Pie 2
    Chance to beat TLW 4/5

    Rush Hour 2
    Chance to beat TLW 4/5

As you can see so for for me no movie can beat TLW record, but maybe in 2002...

    Matrix 2
    Chance to beat TLW 5/5

    Star Wars Episode II
    Chance to beat TLW 4/5

Common people, Pearl Harbor wasnt that bad it was actually quite decent especially for Michael Bay, with his typical movie not having a single shot more then 8 seconds long....this was a decent movie, and does it really matter if JP3 beats TLW's record seriously sit back relax and enjoy the damn movie when it comes out, cause its gonna earn alot of money whether it breaks some dumb record. And besides evolutions coming out soon to, and thats gonna kick some ass!

Oh heck no -- Im looking waaaaaaaaaaaaaay forward to seeing this one -- but I was saying that all the psuedo-JP-fans/TLW-haters probably would snub the thought of a third one.

But yeah... TLW is my fave so far! :)

    So hows it goin??

Like SuperJonk said, many people(not me!!!)were disappointed with The Lost World and won't be so anxious to see this,so it probably won't beat TLW.

Pearl Harbor's total gross was about $60 million for Friday to Sunday and $75.2 million from Friday to Monday. Also Shrek made $55.4 million on this over-sized weekend, bringing it's total to $111.8 million and The Mummy Returns made $19 million over the 4 day weekend. This brought TMR's total to a staggering $170.7 Million. All three of these movies are expected to surpass the $200 Million mark. I hope Jurassic Park III will follow in these films footsteps, money wise.

does anyone even know PH's total gross this 4 day weekend? i tried to see if it was on those shows like access hollywood but nada...ut it did say that TLW had the record, then shpowed acoll scene of the peopl in car or cage and being bitch slapped by the spino or raptors(couldn't make out the big claw on spino's first finger)

Well consider the demographics they're going for. They're trying to go for ALL demographics. For the guys, theres the awesome combat scenes, for teh girls, theres.. well, Ben Affleck. For all the baby boomers, theres a story about something that deeply affected them. Remember, this $6 Billion+ dollar industry is all about *money*.
I have yet to see it (darn sister keeps saying "tomorrow"... I jsut wanna spend time with my sis, ya know??), but have been looking forward to it since the teasers first hit screens last summer. I love WWII plane stuff. :)

As for JP3 and TLW... you cannot say that JP3 is already better than TLW! We have yet to see it! As much as I love the new dark theme for JP3 (oh baby!), it is saddening to think that there is no Jeff Goldblum involved! As one of my friends put it, who isnt a huge JP fan, but is one nonethless -- "Man, sucks that he wont be in it -- I mean, he was the one who provided the comic-relief!"
    That's so true!

But I really doubt that JP3, although will perceivably be a REALLY big opening, willl overtake TLW's opening numbers. I mean... come on people! 72 million in three days!! And it was *that* big, because people wanted to see more of those dinosaurs from Jurassic Park! And the bad aftertaste that TLW left (that everyone tastes, except me... *cuz TLW is my fave movie*) in many peoples mouths, will make them less excited to see a THIRD film.

Plus, JP3's "darker" and scarier theme will undoubtedly have parents more cautious of what they want their youngin's to see.

Although -- there will be big numbers undoubtedly. I guess its jsut a wait-and-see thing, eh?

Mucho thanks to Dan for this awesome awesome page! I beleive I was going to his TLW page before that movie came out! Anyone else take time on May 23rd to just sit and remember what happened on that day about 4 years ago? ;)

    - Jonk

It's sad that the director and writers of Pearl Harbor felt that they had to trash up what could've been an excellent historical film... one that we could learn from. Bastardization of history is right on the money, I'm afraid. I don't go to war movies to watch people make out.

I think that Pearl Harbor is too long to have a chance to beat TLW. There just are enough showing to sell enough tickets to come close to the mark they need.

I'm glad the record will be there for JP3 to break!!

Well, Hi everyone. Well, I must tell you the folks at Disney did send out more prints of PH to compensate for the length of the film. PH played in 3,200 theaters but Disney sent 6,000 prints of the movie to theaters to have multiple showings. So, either way it wouldn't have beat Lost World.

down with pearl harbor. Hmm, who would win, an alpaha raptor or a sailor?

At 9:11:34 PM on 5/28/2001, JPHoosier said:
I would have to say that the reason Pearl Harbor has not been able knock off TLW is simply because the movie is too long. They can't show as many screenings this way, and can't sell as many tickets as for a two hour film.

I saw PH on Friday and I like it. My wife tried to take her sister a few days later and EVERY show was sold out except the LATE showings.

If PH had not been so long I think it could have taken TLW. Just my opinion.

I don't want to turn this into a major pearl harbor dsicussion, but the film was not all that bad. I sum up all of the critics reviews to two things. It was too long (fine, i agree, but what war movie isn't), and it was melting with cheese. Now as far as that last one is concerned, let's think about the "greatest generation". All they had was cheese and pro war fare. That generation didn't know how horrible it was going to be, that combined with their country spirit, made them fluffy, light, and go gettem kinda of people. Just because our modern, anti war, and american, lack of spirit drags us into having to over analyze and pre judge, why should we take it out on a time when things were different? I think michael bay did a very fine job with the film. Sure , we've seen the love story before, but you're never going to see a love story that hasn't been told before. I'm sorry, titanic was not all that original. When seeing this film, under stand that you were bron after its' time and were'nt around when it all happened. DOn't trust critics. Even they dont know what they're talking about. By the way, dan, leave the personal opinions of the film to the discussion boards, rather than the postings. Some poeple find that insulting.

That was a joke right, Mickey c? JP3's perfectly capable of beating TLW at the box office. Given the fact we've seen 20 pages of the script and the footage we've seen, there's little doubt in people's minds that it will be better. Will it beat the opening record? This may have been what you were talking about... I don't know. If Star Wars couldn't even do it, could the follow-up to TLW do it? There's no question it'll open big, but the first two JPs opened against significantly lesser competition; when JP3 opens, Final Fantasy will be out, and Apes comes out just 9 days afterward, and Rush Hour 2 not long after that. If JP3 does $200 million, given this intense box office heat, I will be satifisfied.

Pearl Harbour HASN'T Done BAD at ALL and is doing extremly well and i am sure will beat JP3 i Know i carn't wait to see pearl harbour here in the UK were it hasn't had too bad reviews and expect JP3 wn't get good reviews. SEE a movie for your self before judging

well the emphasis on the poorly written love-story was mostly in the beginning so I ended up going out of the movie with a BIG smile... the war scenes were just awesome...

personally i could care less...im not th type to judge a movie on how much it makes...although pearl harbor did have some of the greatest war scenes i've seen, the love part just ruined the damn thing...but i guess the new redo of apocalypse now with like an hour more of missing scens will fill that void...as for jp3, personnally, i think, as do many others, that it is s better movie than TLW...and ifthey dommore advertising at least in lste june...showing how much grimmer and how much more it relates to the books in that way...i think it could to better.....but hell whadda do i know....all i know is im gonna go see it couple times.....and at the earliest shows too...cuz i hate when im trying to watch a movie and theres tons of people therer ruining it for me.....the bastards
