All the proof was on Bob's "Shooting Script" (the summaries for shots for each day) page 5, which mentions a man named Mark coming out of the house after this scene.

Speilberg does have that odd "bad father" theme running throughout most of his movies (even the *family* films) and now that he's not at the helm anymore, maybe Grant can finally be the "goofy, loveable father figure" he always wanted to be.
