Hey, Tyrannotaur, the Microceratops are first mentioned in the chapter entitled "Search" on p.275 (in my book anyway). Look just after the part where Muldoon and Gennaro find Nedry. I just thought you should know!

ok i have to settle the fued.
The guy who said that raptors couldnt swim was right but wrong, Raptors could swim , they swam in the lost world novel. But i see what you ment, Raptors are land predators the dont hunt for game that is five miles out to sea when they can hunt a saurophlus on an open feild where running is to there advantage . And yes the Rex swam in the JP novel , But in a little Man made river that was just deep enough for him to fit in. but the creek runs through the whole park and gets soo thin that Grants raft gets stuck by the Dilos , i dont feel like ruining the book for any one so i will stop talking about it .
And i could swear i saw Microceratops in the JP book but i looked and couldnt find it .

Just thought of something. . .

how mant damn dinosaurs did Hammond originally Create? In the JP book we have:

    Tyrannosaurus
    Maisasaurs
    Stegosaurus
    Triceratops
    Procompsognathids
    Othnielia
    Velociraptors
    Apatosaurs
    Hadrosaurs
    Dilophosaurs
    Pterosaurs
    Hypsilophodontids
    Euoplocephalids
    Stracosaurs
    Microceratops

    In TLW book, we have:

    Tyrannosaurus
    Maiasaurus
    Pachycepalosaurus
    Procompsognathus
    Apatosaurus
    Stegosaurus
    Parasaurolophus
    Veociraptor
    Carnotaurus

Now a Spinosaurus? Is there going to be an explanation for this? Why and HOW could that much DNA be found? And analyzed, and cloned, and sucessfully hatched? How big was Hammonds operation? (Site B in TLW book explains some of this, as I hope it will in JP3) I don't think introducing a new large canivore was a very smart thing to do.

Yes, there seems to be a large number od predators on the island. If you *read* TLW, then you can find out why. Prions. GO READ THE BOOK!

Dilophosaurus: The reason they're not in the movie.

Easy, there is no nich to support them. They can't take down serious prey on their own, their only good offense is spitting (after warning you with their frill). The only way they could survive on Sorna would be if they were scavengers. Doesn't seem bloody likly, if we recall the predator/prey ratio, the predators will eat all they can. In the JP book, it seems the Dilos ate rats, RATS! The only animal in that size range would be the compys, which hang out in packs. Yes, I realize in TLW, a picture of the Dilo appeared on Hammond's computer screen, but it's just not realistic. All dilos would have been killed by Raptors in a week. End of Story.

Why so many carnivores? 3 T-rex's (to our knowledge) at least one Spino, herds of raptors, at least 2 pteranodons, and one or more carnotaurus. That is one shit load of meat needed per day. Possibly as much as one large herbivore per day. They wouldn't be enough room on the island to support the amount of herbivores needed to support this lot would strip the vegetation down to a dezert. Still it's only a movie hey.

Let's settle this once and for all.

    Tyrannotaur:
    1. catch up on JP3 info if you're gonna be making bold statements. What the hell is a reef raptor you ask? We don't know for sure yet, but we've seen evidence of it. The word "reef" most likely implies it's habitat is around water.
2> T-rex swam in the novel = Crichton must've been on crack if he said it couldn't swim. Where's your proof?

    Saurophaganax:
    1. There is a possibility that raptors could swim. We do not know if they did or did not have any sort of webbing between the digits. Their arms and legs could have very easily provided for swimming capabilities...at least a dog paddle. If you take a look at the socket of the shoulder joint, you can also tell that raptors were beginning to have near full flight-like rotation of the arms. The flying motion is very similar to that of swimming.

Btw, just because you have a stiff tail, doesn't mean you can't swim. Look at humans, all we have is our coccyx, and yet we can swim. i know it's a bad comparison, but it's proof. Although raptors had tails that were probably HELD stiff, it doesn't mean that they could not move them. The tail bones were not fused.

Sorry, I posted my comment on the wrong page. I am some what new to this, so i'll try again. To Tyrannotaur: Spinosaurus was longer and taller than T-rex. T-rex on the other hand had a bigger build (look up Spinosaurus aegypticus).

2nd: To every one talking about "reef raptors", raptors are in no way designed for any type of aquatic activity. Their feet and hands were in no way built for swimming, and their tails were fairly stiff so they could be used as balancing rods. They were not designed for swimmingat all. Just thought you'd like to know.

They will put whatever dinos they want in the film regardless on whether or not the species listings line up with the continuity of the previous films and/or books because there are very few people who pay enough attention to notice or even care. The average movie gore isn't going to enter the theater with charts and graphs to make certain none of the species are out of place. It’s a movie, they’ll bend whatever rules they want as long as it won’t interfere with the general audience’s “suspension of disbelief” and throwing a spino into the mix isn’t going to do that.

At 8:19:37 PM on 5/8/2001, Faulkner said:
Well, if using the novel Sorna map, the Spinosaur could hid in the forested area in the western corner of the island(see compass at the bottom of it). Theres a ridge there. Or he could've been living in the marshes at the begginning of the river. And it could most likely hide because it'd be younger then, and most likely smaller. And despite popular belief, large theropods could swim. By using their tail and muscular hindlimbs they could navigate the waters quite well. They could probbably use the same techniue modern crocodilians use. Oh and Tyrannotaur, the Spino was actually bigger than the t-rex, although i believ the T-rex weighs more.

The only explanation I can think of is that JP3 happens before TLW.

Them landing on Sorna was no accident, Ben had to release them from the boat, otherwise they'd just go flying off into the ocean.

The bit with Enrique's blood sounds cool too.

I imagine that if a spino did a half-gainer off the cliff, it'd wouldn't be much worse for a creature of that size than it is for us to go off the high dive. :)

Hey! Thats the main attraction of it!

Dinosaurs can walk up to a cliff...and then throw themselves off it. Fat lot of good thatll do them. ^_^

Yeah, and then get your intestines ripped out. :)

I guess I can see what you mean, allosaurus. One massive fence to keep all the dinos in, and yet all the dinos intermingle. Still, it's obvious that the dinos can walk up to the edge of a particular cliff, at least... the cliff we saw in The Lost World.

Your most likely correct. Whod have even juvenile velociraptors roaming free in their backyard? ME thats who! WHo wants to visit my park, where visitors get to mingle with our resident raptors and rexes! Dont just look, touch them too!

I think the fences have always been there. This is the island that they raised the babies on and they would need fences/cages to keep them in untill they where old enough to be shipped to the park. So that fence may be a cage like thoughs at a zoo. that what I think.

I don't think it could be a spino.

    Why?

Because, in the Survivor teaser, we see Eric running along a MASSIVE FENCE. Now, in The Lost World, Hammond said that Sorna has "no fences, no boundaries of any kind." So this has to be a fairly recent development - fences put up to keep dinos from swimming offland, I imagine.

Of course, they probably didn't know about/account for the ptrenadons...

It was Wolverine huh? He does have a nasty temperment. Enrique owed him a couple a buks.

Well then, Amanda knows and trusts Enrique so they dont mind him paragliding near the island. Bit careless if you ask me.

At 4:13:13 AM on 5/8/2001, Sinorsis said:
or maybe a ghost ship finds the boat. OR MAYBE the blood isn't really blood, Enrique is a weird mutant and he morphs into liquid red plasma.... leaves the movie waayy open for an X-men sequel. Bet you didn't think of that huh?

    that's what they think...muahaha.

They probably realize something is wrong when 1. they don't return. 2. The coastguard? finds a bloody boat 3. they radio in for help?

I'm betting it was a swimming raptor.

At 1:48:49 AM on 5/8/2001, Utahraptor said:
Oh man. If Ben disconencts them. They might land on Sorna, and be stranded there. With Raptors, and rexes, and Spinos. Oh my. They both might not make it.
Ok, enough fun. I'm betting Spino gets Enrique. Yet he must live, because how else do the Kirby's learn what happened?
You know, I'd think the open sea would be much safer than dino land.
