Like I said, I sent dan a lot more images. There was another angle shot of the raptors, then the new raptor by itself. I also sent a T-REX comparison with the JP elec. Rex, TLW Thraser T-REX and the new Jp3 T-REX. Dan could you post those others I sent? Or would you like me to post them and send links? E-mail me at boba_fetts@hotmail.com

He LSF45, i'm writing a JP 4 script. I have 24 pages so far, but it's quit fast. On page five or so the big ones appear already. But it is a lot of action, o it's quit cool, i would think.

I love the big raptor from JP3. He/she looks really cool. I'm going to buy that for sure!

    Hey guys,

Alright, I'm gonna tell you this is my first post, so cool. But, after i saw the news that the JP 3 toys were out, i looked at KB-toys and Wal-mart and in the malls here in Louisville, KY, and still no JP 3 toys. Are you guys sure they are out yet?? Cause if they are out there, they should be out here. I was really hoping to find them, but i got stuck buying a Pachy whatever from the JP dinosaurs series. Well, does anyone know when for sure they will be out or where they would be out at?? If you can answer these questions, thanks, if not, thanks for helping out.

    LSF
(Its funny cause no one wants a JP 4, and i am writing something i think would be a good JP 4, o well....)

well of what i have seen this is one of two different color schemes of the deluxe raptor #1, and knowing that i found some great pictures that may lead to those "ridges" being feathers. i have found some good pix of the same raptor in that comparison(cept looks a little lighter because of lighting) it is in an altered states magazine article (http://skyjammer.50megs.com/asm/mar2001/has_jpiii.html). theres alotta other JPIII pix there

I'm not dissing the toy raptors for being brightly coloured, just for being brightly coloured where the movie raptors are. And for having a massive snout ridge where the movie raptors have a subtle one. And for having an extra-curvy tail when they should bend only near the tip, just like the movie raptors.

Obviously, there's some concessions involved, but could we at least try to make the toy Velociraptors resemble what they're supposed to resemble?

At 4:44:06 PM on 5/6/2001, Faulkner said:
those ridges look more like a ridge of feathers than of skin and/or bone.

The coloring I can deal with, that was not was I was talking about, even feathered crests I can deal with, even tho I dislike them, but, BUT, feathered crests combined with RIDGES on the snout, AND the tail, seems too weird to me,

yeah i know...but i don't really think they look like genetic experiments...just new and different...it could very well be natural...this brings to mind the Alpha Raptor from Chaos Effect, who, like the other CE dinos, had a very bold and bright color scheme. on the description on the back of the card, it sez it has night camelflouge...which may lead one to think that this is just a bunch of crap. but if you look at it, and imagine it hunting through a moon-lit night you notice that the stripes of blues through the black, and even the bright green stipews on its back make it look like the moon light dappling through the trees, cutting through the shadows....just another example on how a "different' color scheme works. Now when looking at the toy is see that the sculpting is actually alot more accurate than it seems...it actually looks more like a deinonychus than a raptor to me...and many people have aluded to the tail being curved like that...it is a well known idea that dromaesaurs like the raptor have "stiffened" tails, caused by many cris-crossing tendons on the tail i beileve. But that doesn't mean thsat it is as stiff as a bone...it would have somewhat flexibility. now if you look it the toy, you, well i did anywways, will notice that the tail seems to be twisting to the side at the base, and gently curving in the middle and then curving more sharply at the red end of the tail. And then therer are the small bright red patches. Now today, animals use color to communicate. You notice that animals that can't see color, like cats and dogs, don't have real bright coloring, but animals that can, like birds, retiles and primates do have bright coloring. Like male Mandrills have bright colored faces. birds like macaws are also decorated very brightly. or like male peacocks with the're bright plumes of tail feathers. most often this is sexual dimorphism, the males usually being brighter. this raptor could very well be a male. and keep in mind that one would think that a raptor wouldn hafta rely on camelflouge as much as cunning. and the prey don't always rely on sight to warn of danger. keen smell and hearing could help detect enemies, even better than sight.

But the fact remains, it is hard to accept that in 4 years, the raptors have changed naturally to the point where they look like they are genetic experiments,

Eh i think they actually look pretty cool...and you hafta remember all the dinos' origin was man made(and they subsequently gve birth to a new generation), but for those who have read the original novel know that the scientists had made "versions" of each dino, trying to get a desirable one. Now they werer trying to run a theme park...not a real true nature preserve, so wouldn't you think they woulda wanted the dinos theses colors, ya know bright and vivid...and i know the colors in the new movie are cool but in real life today several color variations of the same species or genus remain today. It could be sexuyal dimorphism or maybe seasonal or territrorial, who knows. or maybe that color sceme could work somehow. For example, take today's zebra. It stands our alot in the savanna with its black and white stripes, but pout it in tall grasss, itll break up the outline, and it can be mighty confusin for a predator if ya have a whole herd of stripes jumping around everywhere...ya just never know....i mean no one really knows that much about the world of dinosaurs, we have onbly scratched the surface and have been using the evidence to theorize and infer....like maybe the rules of today's nature could be very diffrent from yesterday's(figuratively). I have more to say but i don't feel like typin no more......

A god?, it looks like a genetic freak of nature, creatures evolve faster in smaller, closed-off communities, but that thing, at least the toy, looks like someone was experimenting genetically with raptors, of course, that could be a point,

Okay, for all of you that say the raptor's colorings have evolved to match their surroundings,I have a question for you. Is eight years realy enough time for genetic evolution and mutations to manifest itself in the physical appearence of the skin and account for tuffs of feathers on the heads? I think they moved to fast on these not-so subtle changes between the TLW and JP3 (which only accounts for 4 yrs.) Anyway, they don't look as good as previous pics had let on... so I am sadly dissapointed!

Also, I think furtim has a point here:"And what's with the colouration? The camoflauge of the JP3 raptors rock, as far as we can tell. The red exists as a very subtle accent, just like the snout ridges. So, therefore, the toy has bright, screaming red all over." He is right. If the raptors evolved, like normal animals, wouldn't they evolve to blend with their surroundings? It makes sense. Especially since the ones in JP and TLW were somewhat camoflauged. Hopefully, no raptor will stray that far from science in the movie.

I think the raptors changed too much from the lost world. They should have kept them the same colors as the previous movie, and why the heck did they add that little bumb in the middle of their snouts? Feathers are fine, in fact, they are awesome, but the raptors have changed too much.

Ugh! Disgusting! Way to throw all the paleontology (not to mention THE MOVIE) out the window in the toy designs. What's the deal with the tail? It's supposed to be STIFF. The first two toys have STIFF tails. I'm sure the raptors in JP3 will have rigid tails, except for the very tips, just like the first two films. And then you have all the bloody protrusions everywhere. The subtle ridges on the JP3 movie raptors have been turned into hideous spines! WHY? And what's with the colouration? The camoflauge of the JP3 raptors rock, as far as we can tell. The red exists as a very subtle accent, just like the snout ridges. So, therefore, the toy has bright, screaming red all over. BAH!

I would have bought this toy if it looked like the raptors in the JP3 trailers, which are probably the coolest-looking dinosaurs I've ever seen. But these toys represent some kind of fictional demons, not real Velociraptors, or even fictional Velociraptors. When I buy a toy from a dinosaur movie, I want the toy to represent a dinosaur, not a monster.
