i think i know what universal is doing: they put so much time and effort into a mummy sequel that they need it to do really well, even moreso than the average sequel because they want to promote the "scorpian king" spinoff movie series. so this is a very important movie for them. now, jurassic park did very well back in 93, and the lost world did very well (though it had problems) in 97. they want to get mummy 2 out of the way before they push jp3. they want those people who love cgi creature movies to see another one advertized at the mummy. they do not want jp hype to take away from their new cash cow.

I agree The Mummy wasnt the best movie, but its sequel looks like a decent movie. The special effects certainly are not cheap, though acting may be questionable at times. You have to realize though that the Mummy isnt a "serious" film, because it is part comedy.
Of course the Mummy Returns is Universal's main release. First of all, this movie was announced way before JP3, so they will market it first. Secondly, Universal has just about ridden the JP franchise for all its worth. Thirdly, I've heard nothing BUT positive reactions to the Mummy 2 trailer when i was at theaters.

Also, Mr. Macy can do action and comedy -- the JP movies -- he did a little of both in Magnolia AND Mystery Men.
Tea is a good actress. She made me cry in Deep Impact (Spielberg). Also, Dern was great in Joe's October Sky.
Give credit to Mike Jeter, I like him. Very excentric.
I liked The Lost World because I knew where Steve was going but the ending could have been better.
Finally, they barely advertised Titanic and it made 600-frigging-million bucks!

Trevor Morgan is a great little actor who will be much better in his role than Dumb Tim and Kelly were.
Laura Dern is an amazing actress,hope she does a bit more than just a cameo.I love her.

Anyway, despite the suspense that may be building up from the complete blackout of visuals on JP3, I still believe Universal is in the wrong. The way you build up suspense in a situation like this is to let people know the film exists, but ONLY tell them it exists. U hasn't done this, because practically no one has gotten the word. JP3 posters at theaters around here used to be scarce, but now they're gone completely. Smooth move.
In my humble opinion, they should release a teaser similar to Gladiator's teaser, short, introducing the plot in an extremely vague (that's good), way, then show a short series of action shots, and then suddenly end with a bang. I still watch that G teaser to this day, in between the new Driven trailer, anyway, hehe. Thx to that brilliant piece of work, I'm actually more excited about that film then JP3. Why? Because I have nothing to base any fucking hopes on when it comes to JP3. Pathetic, 3 will do nothing at the box office, which in itself is a tragedy to the JP name. Jurassic Park is the only record breaker franchise in existance other then Star Wars, and if U doesn't do something FAST, JP will die, which is something I don't want to see, but they apparently do.
Yup, yup, lets just keep putting out the air time for TMR, and ignore everyone else... When was the last time you saw a Fast and the Furious trailer, btw? That's what I thought.
