After meeting on the set of Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern hit it off, becoming engaged in 1995 (they broke up in 1997, however).

what if the velociraptors society has just stabalized into a defined order? it would be chaotic in the beginning w/out adults ie 8 years ago and maybe they just stabalized there culture and the alpha male and alpha female grow feathers when they become the alpha pair bond? after all anything can happen in jp cause there isnt really nothing to disprove jp

Hey FrogDNA that's a good theory. Also you spell Dinoycus like Deinonychus.

Heres a question, Why did they go and change the raptors? Iv been thinking for quite some time now, And I think that the so called "Veloci Raptors" we saw in the other two movies were, after all this time somthing else, like Dinoycus. ( Sorry, Iv lost how to spell that one.)
Remember in the book how Crichton explained how the scientists didnt keep track of the names of the creatures?
Well, thats what probably happened in the movie to, we just arnt supposed to know about it yet.
Of course this is just a drawn picture that probably has no meaning or surprise to it, but maybe....

Yeah, about the size of the pic... thats as big as it gets I'm afraid... theres no hyperlink under it on the site to take you anywhere either!

Yeah I forgot about that! That animal was Ornitholestes by the way, a very distant relative of the dromaeosaurs (raptors). It has quills just like a Velociraptor from JP3! I wonder if that's where they got the idea from.

I've seen an episode of "Walking with Dinosaurs" on Discovery Channel were tiny Diplodicuses hatched out of their eggs and a dinosaur with feathered crests (not a raptor) eats one of them. The feathers pop out when it screams.

Well I don't think Rancor means that literally, but a few of us here do know a lot about the science. I've spent my whole life learning about it.

We've already seen various pics of the Rex on products, and he's lacking feathers (thank God). I'm glad that the raptors aren't covered in feathers, because as far as evolution/change goes, it doesn't make sense for story continuity. Back when the raptors were created on Site B (probably back in the early 80's or late 70's) they obviously didn't have feathers, and didn't up until somewhere between the mid/late 90's. Now they are finally starting to progress with the small quills on their heads, which makes sense (that is to say if Velociraptors actually grew feathers). Much much later in say JP200, a full feathered raptor would be more acceptable. Then again, I don't think ALL of the raptors will have quills in JP3, but we'll just have to wait and see.

ok ok will everyone calm down...i doubt any of us are dinosaur experts, but i do know because of these three movies we have grown up living in books and movies about dinosaurs. but we have to remember the whole featherd idea could have
a- been true
b- not been true

thats it and because we dont know theres not much point fighting. These look like cool cards. And about the feathered headed one being the leader?!....well why do so many different coloured raptors (from the toys) have feathers?

i say we chill and wait for a explaination ok?

I agree with ya there, Rancor. Here's my theory (mind you, this "theory" is more what I want). Lots of hype about the raptors and the spino, right? Right. No hype about good old T. rex. Because that's the biggest surprise of them all! No one will be expecting it when T. rex bursts from out of the forest with a huge display crest of feathers, and feathers undulating on its tail and arms as it runs! How bad-ass would that be! Okay, so that's just all out of my ass, but I think that would be awesome.
Peace,
Rob

First, in real life, there aren't any species of animals that only one thing has something others don't and he is leader. Only insects do. So, only one raptor having feathers doesn't make sense.

Second, where can I get a larger version of that pic? It is waaay too small.

At 5:31:27 PM on 3/5/2001, Mallon said:
First, what?
Second, we complain about the accuracy of the dinosaurs because Universal claims to have the most accurate dinosaurs out there.

At 5:08:03 PM on 3/5/2001, spinorex said:
I think all you guys going on about scientific accuracy should shut up for a sec, and remember, this is only a movie, okay? First of all, there's no way that raptor can be "scientifically accurate" , coz, like people say, dinos evolved into birds, and the evo process doesn't just happen over a couple of years, y'know, it takes million and millions of years, so those feathers are probably just added for a bit of fun, coz making the raptors green and white, like they were in the other JP3 pix is okay, but seriously, peoples are gonna get sick of the same old raptors doin' the same old shit, so the feathers were probably just added to keep people interested, to have some fun.
And the Stargate television show is cool, it's been goin for a long time, and i think old macgyver's still got a bit of bounce left in him, so we can count on seeing SG1 for a little while longer.

At 3:24:43 PM on 3/5/2001, Savior said:
Ok, listen to me everybody! I'm gonna explain it again...

The meaning of the feathers:
Now observe that there is only one raptor with a feathered head crest. We have this picutre, and the picture from the Stan Winston interview. Now if you remember back to the little news bit about Sma Neill missing his dinos, he says he especially misses that cute little raptor that had some feathers on her head, or something like that, and since all the other raptor pics we've seen do not have crests. My conclusion is that there will be one raptor with a head crest, and that raptor will be the alpha female.

I am almost absolutly sure that is what it turns out to be.

That terrible toy series, along with the concept of a mortal kombat fighting game (that playstation one) were two very huge JP flaws. Luckily this concept is great for it's scientific accuracy

At 11:18:57 AM on 3/5/2001, Tango said:
Believe me, its not even close to the CE toy series, but I'm sure an explanation of crested and non-crested raptors will be given.

Now that everyone seems to be happy with the pic let me ask one thing. Are these raptors scientifically accurate? Now I realize that the feathered crests were simply a concept by paleontologists, which is why im happy universal will (hopefully) have the stages from JP one young and brown raptors, to LW yellow and brown, to FULL adult with crest, but the question still remains. Is this too drastic? is it slightly like that damn mutant toy series they had, what was it "Chaos effect"?

Yeah, if you've ever seen a parrot, when they get moody all the feathers on top of their heads rise up. I'd say the reason why we haven't seen these feathers all that clearly is because all the Raptors in stills aren't sufficiently pissed off!

That Raptor actually looks pretty rocken, the pics I'd seen up to this point were all ugly as hell. Maybe there's hope for JP3 afterall!

I think the feathers are hidden till the raptors become aggressive then they pop up. Either that or the feathers show that a raptor is a bull male. I really don't know. These are my opinions.
