Since a full skeleton of a pachycephlasaurus has never been found, TLW producers build half of it using "educated" guesswork. (From: Adam)

Davis will never fill Williams' shoes, Williams' is the best composer ever

Nope. That was Randy Edleman. And yeah, the Dragonheart theme rocks!

How about the guy that did that theme from 'DragonHeart'? Is this the same guy?
The 'DragonHeart' thheme is very well known once you hear it, but many people dont know its actually from 'DragonHeart'.

Whoops, Gambler rather. It's early :)

Just making a comparison Gladiator. That was David Arnold's first major project, just as JP3 is Don Davis' first 'regular sounding' major project (besides the Matrix...).

The Stargate theme does rock, but what has it's composer got to do with JP3?

The IMDB doesn't research squat. Or else someone would care to show me where Tim and Lex are in MIB? Because my vidoe copy has their scene cut out.
Youa re all forgetting Spielberg is still involved with this. And I don't care how much the director is in charge of music and stuff, we all know for a fact Johsnton can't so much as sneeze or scratch his nose without Speilberg's express permission, in triplicate. So if Davis is doing the score, you know for a fact Spielberg loves him. Remember,t hey wnat money, and won't chose poorly. hence rewriting so many time,s and especially to get Sam neill back. A nd even tog et Macy onboard, too.

Do you think he will stick to the same theme?? The JP music is cool.

People send things into IMDB and they take days researching it to see if its fact and if its not they toss the info out.

Gambler- I wouldn't consider anything in the Matrix a 'theme', mostly just a motif that reapears a few times to counter the techno backbeats. The stuff from the song album Eye's of Truth, Spybreak, Clubbed to Death) were much better then the score. Don't get me wrong I loved the film, I just thought the score could have been better. So much opportunity for a really kick-ass, instant-classic type theme, that wasn't utilized. Oh well, there's always the Matrix 2... and 3... and the prequels (?)...

While I LOVED the 1st season of SeaQuest (went downhill after Spielberg left), Davis did the music for most eps, but it was all just rehash of John Debney's pilot episode score.

But give the guy a chance. One of my favorite film composers is David Arnold, and his absolute best score was Stargate. He'd done basically nothing before that, yet he turned out what I think is the second best score of the 90s (behind JP of course). Maybe JP3 will be Davis' breakthrough, even if he is just rehashing the old Williams themes...

Fine Boricia Prowler or whatever your name is- The Matrix score needed an artificial tune but the fact of the matter is he didn't break any new barriers with it. It's such an unknown theme. You look at Williams, he's got tumes like Star Wars, ET, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jaws...everthing! And even Horner's music ic recognizable- Titanic, BraveHeart and lots lots more. Don Davis is going to have to make his mark in JP3 or else he's gonna wish for a sequel to House on Haunted Hill.

Speilberg was a producer of the first season of SeaQuest DSV...Davis scored SeaQuest DSV...Maybe they have made a good choice, we'll all find out on July 20, 2001 when the film opens.

I don't know, I think he'll do a good job, I just can't see why wouldn't you like him. I really can't. The score in The Matrix sounded artificial for the very simple reason that the plot demanded that. Because if I remember well, The Matrix was about an artificial world. It's only logical to make the soundtrack like that. And it's a great soundtrack, I got the DVDs and I could listen to the music on the menus for the whole day...

Will John Williams still write the theme to this film, I'm not sure I trust this guy, from what I've just read the guy has not done one, half decent musical score, he should not be doing this independantly. This, score will have to have a certain feel to it, and I don't think that he can even come close to matching John Williams. I know I'm coming off a little critical, and I know we have no idea what he has planned but my confidence in this guy is less than satisfactory. But I suppose we will just have to wait and see, he could do a good job and the soundtrack could be really cool.

To what Dan said- the lack of themes in The Matrix could be a good thing- that means he'll be more inclined to use the good old Williams themes from JP that were gone in TLW (*cough* raptor theme *cough*)

At 3:32:19 PM on 12/5/2000, Joxer said:
I'm sorry but The Matrix score was really bad. No theme whatsoever, except for that back-and-forth brass thing. The ending was pretty cool in the context of the movie though.

And David Arnold did the Wing Commander theme not Davis. The only other noteworthy scores Davis has done are Warriors of Virtue and the Tiny Toons TV show. :)

And I disagree- the Matrix score could have been much better if it used big, bold futuristic themes sort of like the Enigma song used in the trailer. THAT would have been extremely cool.

when Neo came back in the end, the music was very, very cool. Good chorus sounds.

And somebody said that The Matrix score was vry artificial... um... if you watch the movie... YOU KNOW the score for that particular film HAS to be artificial. That's what it demands because of what it is about...

I think it's a interesting combination. Sam Neill is a returning and so is Laura Dern.
Steven and Michael seem to be involved in the movie but not really involved.
They change the director and music composer for this movie.
They change the dinosaur on the logo but the T-rex will still be in JP3.

Does this gut really no anthing? The Matrix score was very artificial, and the fact that he even worked on House of Haunted Hill is disturbing. Jimmy Horner was definitely the next best thing after Williams, but now...

Ditto that, James Horner's great! What happened to him? I'm sad now... <:(

Cross your fingers... even David Arnold is more established than this guy. I hope he puts a lot of effort into this. First Johnston fills Spielberg's shoes... then Davis fills Williams' shoes. No pressure Don but you'd better ROCK!!! And I don't mean that in the literal sense.

VERY interesting choice. Davis is no doubt a talented musician, but he has a distinctly different sound than Williams.. Just listen to the Matrix score. Another reason Davis might have been chosen is cost -- he's certainly more inexpensive than others in Hollywood.. One thing's for sure.. JP3 will not sound anything like JP or TLW...
