It's a pretty big deal that Muren isn't doing it. But anyone saying the FX in Sleepy Hollow were crap (and likewise the movie, sorry Dan) are full of themselves. Muren was pure and simple the big driving force that got the CGI for JP rolling in the first place. It's no coincidence that he was integral with the development of FX in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies, not to mention The Abyss and T2.

And no, it didn't win an Oscar for best effects, that went to the very undeserving Matrix. Bah! I wouldn't worry too much about the special effects, though. ILM is the best in the world and I'm sure JP3 will be spectacular.

If JP3 had a few differences from the first two it would be ok, but with so many this is a recipe for disaster...
With no Muren, no Spielberg and about 50 other things, including the script difficulties, I'm afraid this might turn out pretty bad.

I agree, but the visual effects in Sleepy Hollow weren't that bad. The effects in Mars Attacks were... pretty good in daylight scenes. But does it really make a difference who does it? I mean, as long as ILM are doing it... which they are. Besides, Mike Lantieri is attached, so I'm sure this will be fine.

Sleepy Hollow's special effects were okay, though nothing sticks out in my mind as breathtaking (then again, I thought the movie was pretty bad). I think the fact he worked as an animator on JP is re-assuring, though I too would have liked Muren at the helm..
