Yeah I've never made it through another Chrichton book aside from JP and TLW. I've started a few like Congo and Sphere but they are just a little too technical for my tastes....like they have way too many statistics and explainations of stuff in them. He's not the only one, Tom Clancy does it too, but yeah....they both write great stories but they just go a little too into details...in my opinion, anyway. Some parts of JP and TLW themselves were almost like reading a technical manual, but if you could overlook that and enjoy the story you will enjoy them.

    At 7:06:46 PM on 6/12/2008, MK1 said:
Ya. To be honest though, the only books i've read of Crichton are Jurassic Park and Lost World. Though I do have Prey and intend on reading Next also. It would be amazing if he announced a new JP in the works.......maybe we should all send him emails via his website and pester him http://www.michaelcrichton.net/

Though i'm guessing over the years he's had tons and tons of inquiries about that. But a few more couldn't hurt :)

Chrichton should write a third JP book. I don't mean a novelization of JP3, I mean an entirely new story, and then maybe, just maybe, if it was really good, they could make that into a movie. But I doubt that will happen. It doesn't seem like Chrichton really even writes that much anymore....at least, he doesn't write the huge blockbusters like he used to.

I've read both the JP and TLW books, and they are two of my favorites. I really think the TLW book is better than the movie is, but as for JP1, most of the good stuff from the book was in the movie, and most of the rest of the good stuff from the JP book that wasn't in JP1 was in JP3 (such as the "birdcage" scene).

I'd love to see Nublar again too, but I'm not going to reignite the debate as to whether Nublar was destroyed or not in the movies.

Regardless, I don't see how they could reincoporate the park element into another movie. In the first one, they made it into a park and it failed, then in the second they tried to import the dinosaurs to a mainland park which also failed. What else could they do with the idea?

    At 3:46:18 PM on 6/10/2008, MK1 said:
Count me in too! It would be awesome if they could incorporate that somewhat into the script, but i'm guessing it would be too hard, being that it's been 15 years since the park was destroyed in the first movie. With that said though, i've always wanted them to go back to Nublar. When JP3 was coming out, everyone thought it was taking place on Nublar. I even have an official press release photo that says at the bottom, "they crash on Isla Nublar." But when the movie came out, nope. So I'd love to see Nublar again!

Thanks juniorx eternal. Another thing I'd prefer in the fourth(although I'm sure it ain't gonna be like this) is the "Park" part of it. I liked it better when the "park" was the main thing. Not the dinosaurs. I don't want a remake of the first but I wish somehow they would bring the park back in.

    At 1:48:15 PM on 6/8/2008, raptor2000 said:
Yeah, basically all three JP films have the same premise - people running from dinosaurs trying to escape from the island. The only difference is how they get on the island, how they get off, and who dies and how in between.

I think it's probably best to let the sequels lie, and just move on.......tell another story......

Speilberg said in an interview a while ago, that the story he has for JP4 should have been JP3.....so hopefully it's a good one...but to be honest, this "someone stranded on the island that we have to rescue scenerio" is very tired out. Part 3 was sooo bad and so badly scripted, that i just want anything but that same storyline.

I didn't mind the character of Nick Van Owen that much...I mean, it's not like he was that major of a character anyway. He wasn't even in the climax of the movie in San Diego. But I agree with you on the script for TLW, it was pretty bad. If only they had followed the book more closely, which ironically Michael Chrichton had written specifically to be made into a movie. But alas, there is no point in talking about what could have been, as TLW is 11 years old already. That being said, as much as we gripe about TLW and JP3, I still do like them alot and own all of them....I just wish they were better in quality. Here's to hoping that if JP4 is made, it will be the best of the sequels......and whatever happens, please, NO REMAKE OF JP1. However, if they want to redo TLW or JP3, go ahead (though I know they won't).

    Haha, nice post Porter.
I still have hope for the franchise......but i'm not gonna make the same mistake i've made with so many movies (walking into the theatre expecting a work of magic to match the first film).......

Has it really been seven years since JP3? Man, where have the years gone?

After rewatching Lost World for the first time in years, I was greatly saddened by how much I despised the script. Like, it's still a pretty movie, but the script is just so so SO bad. I mean I've taken jabs at the character of Nick Van Owen in most of my JPX posts but.... For seriously, the fourth movie should be about Nick being on trial for negligent manslaughter... And then like dinosaurs attack the courthouse or something since it is a Jurassic Park movie. I dunno.

And after rewatching the first one again, I'd rather not see a sequel if I could just see the original unmolested movie back in a theater. Barring that, I still stand by my opinion on the only possible place these movies can go....

You probably thought I was gonna say it, didn't you?

And yes, i agree......i'm not sure either whether i would want Speilberg back. A part of me still believes that maybe he can bring back the magic of the first film, and then another part of me thinks he will mess it up. Look at Indiana Jones 4....i can't believe how silly it was........the other Indiana's took themselves seriously, and they knew they could be hurt and killed......here it was like the characters KNEW they were in a movie.......what the hell was that scene with Marion driving the truck off the cliff (laughing at the same time while she did it), totally confident that she would land on a friggin' branch and go safely to the ground..........you have to be kidding me..........so ya, if that's any indication of the new JP, then please, let's get anohter director

    At 9:59:07 PM on 6/1/2008, MK1 said:
Ya it really lacked the shock-value of the first and second JP. I still can't believe how bad the animatronics were, especially when the spino tore apart the plane......it was plain brutal.......no movie has come close to the realism and believability (in my opinion) of the first JP.......it's classic

I'll Admit That JP3 Doesn't Have The Same Terror And Wonder As The First Two But I Still Love It. I Love 'Em All! Steven Did A Good job And So Did Joe In My Book, I Just Wish That They Would Have Either Sam Neil(Alan Grant) Or Jeff Goldblum(Ian Malcom) In It. A Jurassic Park Film just Wouldn't Seem Right Without One Of Them:( I Still Can't Wait For JP4 Though:)

    At 10:25:21 AM on 5/29/2008, raptor2000 said:
Exactly, and that's why I wouldn't really want Spielberg back for JP4. With the exception of Indiana Jones 2 and 3, Spielberg just doesn't really seem to put much care into sequels. Don't get me wrong,, I know there are other no so good movies he's made that aren't sequels, and I liked Indiana Jones 4 and TLW, but they are not as good as their predecessors. He just doesn't seem to have his heart set on sequels, so when he does do them it just seems like they are just half-assed action flicks made for no other purpose than a big paycheck with little thought involved. Like I said though, even with that being the case, Spielberg's "bad" movies are a big step over most other movies out there today.

At 2:53:33 PM on 5/28/2008, mrprongs said:
Spielberg didn't do as great a job with TLW as he could have, because he sued it to get back into directing, which he himself admits. I'm sorry, but if there's no love for the film don't direct it. It's like he was saying, I don't care how this movie turns out. I just want to get back into the swing of things before doing Schindler's List. And that kind of attitude is insulting to a franchise's fans.

Same, and curse the person who thought no weapons in Alien 3 was a good idea.

As for Spielberg though....frankly I'm not sure I'd want him back either. I mean, he did make TLW after all, and that movie didn't turn out any better than JP3. Not to mention Indiana Jones 4 was kind of mediocre, although I suspect that alot of that can be attributed to George Lucas. I'm well aware of the fact Spielberg has released a number of good movies over the past few years, and even his "bad" ones are still pretty good, but I think in order to revitalize the Jurassic Park franchise, new direction is needed (along with perhaps some assistance from Michael Chrichton), and Spielberg has a tendancy these days to settle for blowing alot of stuff up and having big budgets and too many special effects. I don't know who should direct JP4...I guess just someone who won't settle for anything less than a great film who has respect for the franchise itself and for what the fans want to see, as well as taking the film seriously and not just another chance to cash in on a popular film franchise.

Again, I don't think it was Joe Johnston's fault, it was the fault of the writers for writing a crappy script, and the studio and producers for rushing the film into production before said crappy script was even completed. Johnston made the best movie he could with the material he had to work with.
