The raptor "resonating chamber" in JP3 was actually a mold from a dog, but increased in size substantially. From: Oviraptor.

They are "making" one in the same sense that they have been "making" a fourth Indiana Jones for almost 20 years. It has taken forever to get the story right and the wheels rolling but the finally did and now it is coming out in less than 2 weeks. Same thing with JP4, it will take a long time to get it going (probably not 20 years though) and a good script but eventually it will inevitably happen because the first three films made all kinds of money and Universal won't let it go until they have to.

I dunno, even with Batman, there are plenty of Batman animated cartoons and animated movies to show so I'm not sure how they can justify showing the live action film, but certainly Jurassic Park 3 has no reason to be shown on Cartoon Network.
It seems I remember a few weeks ago or so they even showed like Ferris Bueler's Day Off or some other movie like that, can't remember what movie it was, I just remember thinking that was strange they were showing it on CARTOON Network.

Shortly after it's conception, Cartoon Network decreed cartoons only (unless live action was part of the program). I can understand Batman the Movie, because it's based on the comic turned cartoon, but when they just put on any old movie, it's wrong. Maybe if they ever made the JP cartoon they promised, it'd make sense.

Haha that's funny. Yeah I've noticed that cartoon network these days no longer just shows cartoons, as I think they actually even have a couple live action TV shows and consistently show live action movies. It's becoming more like Nickelodeon, neither of which I watch anymore because they suck these days. It has nothing to do with me being "too old" (21) as some of the shows that used to be on those channels were both funny and for older audiences. Nowadays there's nothing but crap on those channels, not to mention most of the other channels ou there as well. There are 3 TV shows I watch (Lost, Heroes, The Office), aside from that I just stick with movies.

I greatly fear this is their philosophy. Maybe if we make a big enough stink over JP's 15th, they'll reconsider and make a good movie, and keep guns out of the claws of dinos. What's next? InGen sells mini talking dinos as pets?

Exactly, and like I said, being as the original source is an old article from AICN which was itself a scoop from "a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that works at universal", there is no validity to it whatsoever.

I just hope with the large amounts of remakes and franchise restarts these days they don't do it to Jurassic Park. The original film is a masterpiece and doesn't need to be messed with, and they obviously aren't going to remake TLW or JP3. And a prequel wouldn't really work, so a sequel is really the only way to go. Truthfully though, if they can't come up with a script worth making into a movie then I'd just as soon prefer they leave the Jurassic Park series alone. Perhaps we will just have to wait and see how good Indy 4 is before we decide whether or not it's a good idea to have Spielberg involved...being as how Spielberg never makes sequels with only 2 exceptions - Indiana Jones 2 and 3 (and 4) and TLW, and the Indy sequels were great and the JP sequel not so much.

The secret to wikipedia is to only trust what can be verified. Existing books, tv shows, movies, etc can easily be verified, and thus are very acurate and trustworthy (usually). Future plots are not. Anything in production is not. Unless it appears first from a reptuable source. IE, if Spielberg tells Entertianment Weekly the new plot, you can believe it on Wikipedia.

Exactly...it was posted on Wikipedia. Anybody can post anything on Wikipedia. And by the way, the so-called source is an ancient article from AICN....who aren't too reliable themselves.

Maybe at some point some idiot thought about using the can as a plot point and was quickly shot down, but the point is that it can't be used, there are a hundred reasons it wouldn't work and no reasons it would, so there's no point in talking about it anymore.

Yeah I'm not sure what to say about Spielberg...he has put out some of the greatest movies of all time but lately his movies have been....varied to say the least. Some good, some not so good (though even his not so good movies are better than most of the shit out there today).

At 3:08:22 PM on 4/3/2008, mrprongs said:
First, BioSyn doesn't exist in the movies. One of the producers suggested in an interview answering questions it was Disney.

    Second, I said InGen.

Third, As repeatedly pointed out when it comes back, nobody knows where it is. Whoever Nedry worked for won't know if he ever succeeded. As far as they know, he failed to retrieve them, and they wasted money. They're not going to think, Oh gee, poor guy must have gotten lost and eaten, so, the can must be in a paddock.

Fourth, the burial was foreshadowing what was to be the inevitable re-extinction of dinos. Dinos are best left buried and dead, not alive and with humans. This isn't the Flintstones. They're not vehicles and accessories for the home (what would PETA say?). It's what makes the scene so powerful. It was never a sequel hint, as it can't be. It can't be found within 36 hours. Almost nobody knows it exists, and those who don't don't know where it is, or would think to look through the mud. With limited time, as the park was being dismantled. It probably took days to learn of Nedry's death. And it's been 15 years. Maybe it'd work for a few days, but years? I suppose the official script was the idiotic rumor the embryos merged into one, and Ellie, Lex, and Tim are forced to go deal with the mutant monster? Just as bad as the real official script we all mocked and thankfully ruined the chances of ever seeing the light of a projector (OK, so we delayed a JP4, but, better than that crud.) Really, if this is what Spielberg thought so highly of, time to put him in a home.

I obviously meant to say dinosaurs and mankind.

    At 10:03:16 AM on 4/3/2008, raptor2000 said:
Oh and by the way, the whole point of Jurassic Park is that humans and mankind were never meant to live together and that they should not have been introduced into the same environment, and thus leaving them behind on Isla Nublar and Sorna gave them their own "Lost Worlds" to isolate them away from the rest of the world again. The reason Spielberg had the can buried in mud was to remove any possibility that that could be used as a later plot point involving dinosaurs getting off the island.

By the way, the "original screenplay" you referred to doesn't exist. There is no original screenplay unless you count the gun-carrying dinosaurs one (which I still think is fake), there are just possible ideas, and the shaving cream can one is just an idea someone threw out that once someone who had seen the first movie before heard about quickly shot down.

    At 9:56:49 AM on 4/3/2008, raptor2000 said:
Just cuz it was covered in mud doesn't mean it would be kept cooler. Keep in mind it is a tropical island....it gets pretty toasty there, regardless of whether they destroyed the island or not. I wish everyone would stop trying to use the shaving cream can as a plot point for JP4...unless the movie happens withing a day and a half of the first JP movie, it can't be used, not to mention no one knows where Nedry died or where the can fell.
As for the rest of your idea for the movie....sorry, that sounds like a good way to get all the characters from all the JP movies back together but aside from that it would make for a crappy movie. By the way, we still don't know without question how or why the dinosaurs went extinct.

    At 11:28:12 PM on 4/2/2008, JSSeaDub06 said:
no, it was an official story that the original screenplay revolved around someone retrieving the can. yes, it may have said it only lasts for 36 for hours, but im sure spielberg wouldnt have had it covered up by the mud if he didnt plan on maybe possibly using it again, its a movie it could be preserved enough. and wut do you mean, Biosyen did know about it b/c they were expecting it. they knew it was on its way to the boat.

The chances of interspecies infection is quite low, it'd have to have a long dormancy, and there's no way InGen can't retrieve the shaving cream can because they don't know it even exists. Nor would anyone know where it's buried, nor would it be within 36 hours since they left the refrigerator unit, and thus, are not viable, as Dodgson pointed out to Nedry at the very beginning of Jurassic Park.

Well, Richard Attenborough informs Nick Van Owen, Ian Malcolm, and Dr Grant that they have to receive samples of DNA from the Dinosaurs or else they could come down with a viral disease that killed off the dinosaurs 65 million years ago when in fact he is sending them to the island to retrieve the samples of DNA b/c the Military is planning to nuke the islands after an incident on the mainland. By retrieving these samples Attenborough can salvage whats left of his dinosaurs before they are all killed off. Movie opens up with "Ingen" retrieving the barbasol can of DNA

No really, the best idea for Extinction: Jurassic Park would be that the actual dinosaurs may face extinction. The same virus that killed them off 65 million years ago, and that both Lex (Keira Knightley) and the girl from the opening of the Lost World (Camilla Belle) have contracted the disease through the interaction with the dinosaurs and that all the others (Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, Nick Van Owen) may to be in harms way unless they receive samples of the dinosaurs DNA so they can creat a cure, or they along with the dinosaurs would face extinction..

A group of people out on a cruise on a small boat are attacked by a group of massive great white sharks so, after losing several people, race to the nearest island....where they find themselves confronted by an even greater threat. Will they stay on the island and try to get rescued at risk of becoming dinosaur food? Or will they flee back to the ocean and risk becoming shark bait?

That was a joke, by the way. :-P

The only deleted scenes I have ever seen or heard of being completed are one little scene in JP where Ellie picks the leaf she is looking at when they first see the brachiosaur and then the two deleted scenes from TLW that are on the DVD. As for JP3, I don't know of any major scenes that were filmed as deleted, as I imagine they probably put most of everything they had filmed into the movie to at least try to get it's running time somewhat close to the first two.

Anyway, with all three I have heard of and read about scenes/segments that had been planned but were never filmed or at least finished due to time/budget constraints, and something tells me Universal isn't going to go back and film/finish new scenes to put in them as firstly they are all three over a decade old (aside from JP3 which is getting close) JP is fine they way it is and TLW and JP3 wouldn't really be any better regardless of what you put in (aside from perhaps a new ending for JP3). That plus Spielberg generally doesn't do "director's cuts" or extended cuts to his movies after they've already come out.

Yeah I heard about that too and it worries me. The Wolf Man and it's first sequel, Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man, are two of my favorite monster movies, so aside from me not wanting them to be remade period, if they are gonna do it I definately don't think Johnston is the man to do it. Don't get me wrong, he's had a few decent flicks, but I don't think he's up to the level to make the remake to such an infamous movie.

That being said though, if Speilberg isn't going to direct JP4 (which he won't) then I kind of would have liked to see Johnston get a real shot at making a JP movie, meaning a movie with a good script, as I still believe that JP3 being so mediocre wasn't his fault, I think he directed the material that he was given the best that he could. That, combined with him now being familiar with the material, I think would have made him a good candidate for JP4. However maybe a fresh director with a new perspective is what is needed.

I agree. Plus the Terminator TV show totally cancels out the third movie. Sure the third movie wasn't as good as the second, but it was still good, and a hell of alot better than the TV show. And we definately don't need another movie set in the future timeline, let alone three more movies. All that happened during that future timeline has already been described in the three movies.

As for JP....I hate to say it, but perhaps they should just lay the franchise to rest, or make JP4 be the final one and have them either destroy Sorna (and specifically say or show that Nublar has also been destroyed) or at least have Sorna permanently made so that no one can get to it or something like that. I dunno...the only point I can see to making another movie is giving the series a sense of closure since JP3 certainly did not do that.

At 1:47:08 PM on 2/23/2008, mrprongs said:
They want to make a whole new Terminator trilogy, with a new hero saving mankind. Stupid. How much more is there? Skynet had rubbery looking Terminators at first. Soon, they'll have to be used, and then there's no threat. Ooh look, a killer robot. Let's run and hide and ambush him.

Maybe the Jurassic Park Dinos can take down Cloverfield? Sure beats Power Ranger Dinos with guns. I means seriously. is this what the JP Franchise has been reduced to? What's next, talking dinos trying to use mind control devices on people? You will watch the crappy films we make. Sheesh.

Any time you get in trouble just call in the marines again, it's just not scary. That was one of the BIG mistakes in TLW in my opinion---there's no big mysterious build up to Site B to evoke all the ominous secrety it's name suggests, and then they just make it known to the whole world at the end so as to ruin the mystery in any sequels.. Oh well, it's just a franchise.<<

That's true. The only thing they could really do now with franchise without totally repeating the previous movies is having the dinosaurs running rampant through a city (all the dinosaurs, not just the T-rex). However, that was the rumour for JP3 for a long time and I was always opposed to it. Dinos in the city is just way too Godzilla-ish. Aside from that though...the only other way I could see them making another movie would be either a prequel to JP1 (which wouldn't be great because the dinosaurs wouldn't be able to get loose in it as they get loose in JP1) or an interquel between TLW and JP3, as I can't see them making one between JP1 and TLW since the whole point in TLW is that no one knew after the events in JP1 for four years that the dinosaurs even still existed.
Aside from that the only other thing I can think to do would be to return to Nublar, regardless of whether it was destroyed in the official canon of the movie or not, because I really don't want to see another "go to Sorna and run screaming from dinosaurs for an hour and a half to two hours" again.....not unless they can make it interesting.

To me the JP franchise is kind of like the Terminator franchise...it was a relatively simple idea that worked really well for a while but they have totally milked it dry with too many sequels (altho in Terminator's case the third movie was pretty good, but there are three more sequels coming, along with the current incredibly mediocre TV show)

There's no way at all Jurassic Park 3 could have been done with the basic premise that it had. Or the score composer. Or the previously mentioned nonexistent writer, which was just one of MANY reasons it sucked. It was basicly the exploitation mode sequel everyone knew was coming except without the dinosaurs running rampant in the city part that you could only do in a movie where that's the only thing left to do with the franchise, & where all the screenwriters have moved onto new non franchise movies.. I guess the TLW ending had a hand in it too..

Exactly. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love all three movies....so much so that even though I already had all three movies, I went out and bought the Jurassic Park "Adventure Pack" that has all three movies in a box with little doors on the front that open like the gates of Jurassic Park. The set doesn't even have any extra special features on it, it's just the same DVD's from the previous release with all in one box and with different cover art, but I got it anyway cuz I love the movies and thought it looked cool (and cuz the only one I had in widescreen was JP3, I only JP and TLW in fullscreen). Like I was saying though, I love the movies and am meaning to watch them again.....however,I have also seen all three of them like 100 times each and can quote a majority of them from memory, and I have so many other new movies I need to see. Maybe I will watch them over the weekend.

And I won't say any more about the engaged/marriage thing, it is just odd to see or hear about someone getting engaged that young, but then again you are in another country so maybe that's how you all do it. Over here in the U.S. the age of consent isn't even until 16, although in most states it's actually 18. But anyway, like you said, your life, do whatever makes you happy. I guess everyone has to make their own mistakes and successes, and none of us older dudes describing our experiences will change that.

And in TLW movie, they said the island was destroyed. Even though it was cut, it's still a part of continuity. And was reinstated in the FOX airings. The confusion of suddenly saying it's still there would ruin the franchise. Let alone everything else in the movie. From tagline, to Malcolm's surprise the dinos still exist to the lack of Lysine on Nublar. And the whole point it was a once in a lifetime chance. To happen twice makes it completely worthless. Oh, and why head to Sorna, when Nublar has fewer dinos to contend with? It's just safer. In fact, InGen hit Sorna when they learned the dinos still lived. They'd have long ago raided Nublar if they hadn't destroyed it already.

Dinos on Nublar just doesn't work.

    >> >>You're 16 and engaged?<< yeah it's called love<<

No offense but that's not called love, that's called being childish. You can be in love with someone without being engaged, and 16 is way too young to be engaged (although I am aware of the fact that most 16 year olds just say it because it makes them sound older). I 20 years old, and my girlfriend is 18, and probably will eventually get married once we are both done with college but we aren't going to go saying we are engaged until a marriage is firmly planned and set in stone.
Just trust me, enjoy the relationship and if it lasts til marriage, great, but don't go saying you are engaged cuz if it ends it'll just be that much worse.

ANYWAY, back to JP, I just realized (going back to the whole is Nublar destroyed or not argument) upon reading part of TLW again that at the end up the TLW book, not only is the island still hidden and unknown to the public (since the San Diego thing didn't happen in the book), and the dinosaurs are all fated to die from something called prion poisoning, so technically, going by the book, JP3 couldn't have happened, whereas in the movie the dinosaurs are fine and revealed to the public, and Hammond turns the island into a wildlife preserve. I just point that out to prove that just because something is destroyed the book, (the destruction of Nublar) doesn't mean it happens in the movies, as the movie universe and the book universe are two completely different things.

That's because he got moved to a better hospital, where his condition was upgraded to alive.

Technically, a medical Doctor never declared him dead, and regular folks don't always know dead when they see it. One old guy woke up in his funeral, because his family thought his deep sleep was death.

So Malcolm might not have been dead at the end of JP.

My point is, yeah they aren't as good as the books but regardless, the movies and the books are two completely different things, and they are still official Jurassic Park films. Chrichton wasn't involved in the writing of the third OR second movie. Writing previous sequels out of continuity with new sequels just screws things up and is a big headache for everyone. They did it with the recent Terminator show, which claims that it takes place after the second movie and cancels out the third...however the third movie was actually pretty good, and thus far the show isn't really all that great. The only time I've seen it work was when Superman Returns was made as a sequel to Superman I and II and cancelled out III and IV, because the last two sucked. Superman Returns wasn't that great but it was better than those two. They also did it with the seventh Halloween movie, cancelling out 3-6, but then the screwed it over again with 8.

Anyway, my point is, just because the third movie wasn't that good doesn't mean they need to write it out of the continuity, they can still make a damn good fourth movie without cancelling out the third if they really try. Think about it, the JP sequels really don't refer back that much to the previous movies (especially 3, in which the only mention of TLW in it is when Grant mentions the incident in San Diego) so they can just not even mention the events in the third movie in the fourth, or just give a quick passing reference.

Anyway, the movie should be in some sort of timeline where somehow Jurassic Park is both a secret and InGen is either in ruins or unknown somehow, and the main good character should be the guy from the books who was finding the animals in Costa Rica and hunting the compys and abberrant forms, and the main bad guys should be the Biosyn Corporation, preferably the version from the lost world and the Jp2: Chaos Continues SNES game. It should be dark as hell, but with a lot of mystery and wonder to it instead of just "here are the dinosaurs, get ready for some blood!" or any other crappy kidn of "dark"... That would be my fan boy JP4 wet dream, if they did it the way I see it in my head

I'm POSITIVE Michael Crichton, who invented Jurassic Park, would never have written that god awful story about a kid who parasails too close to the island. I just don't consider it part of the universe, it's too stupid and just not in the style or spirit of the films. "No..This is how you play God." I swear I could've written a better script than that crap they were making up as they went along.

You are right though, it is ridiculous that he survived unharmed for almost two months alone when an entire small army of armed men were almost totally taken out in less than a week in TLW.

That's just proven to be wrong. Oh so very wrong.

Rumors say TLW Movie was written before TLW Book, and they adapted character names over, and saved the Trailer Attack Scene. Apparently, the movie was never meant to be an adaptation of the book.

I'll be happy with an actual ending for JP4. JP3 just ended. And avoided the obvious. Military men vs dinos. They set it up, then dropped it. Why's the island so dangerous? Dinos aren't all over it. People come and go all the time (TLW/JP3). Heck, a 12yo survived 8 weeks alone (Yeah, that's plausible. 8 days maybe). An attack would have justified most of the threat (that a little boy can survive alone.)

    >>i still wanna see the INGEN vs. BIOSYN drama<<

That's kind of what I meant by saying I would rather see a remake of TLW closer to the book than JP1, as that would have been so much cooler than what they ended up doing with the movie.
In the book, it's a small group of people that Ingen sends against a small group of Biosyn people. In the movie, it's a small group of Hammond's people against a large group of Ingen people...basically Ingen vs. itself. I still to this day don't understand why they didn't stick closer to the book. I mean, the book was no masterpiece but I liked the storyline better than the movie's storyline. Still, TLW is a sequel and almost 11 years old, so I doubt it will ever be remade.

I hate to say it but I'm betting when JP4 gets made it will just be another TLW/JP3-esque movie about people getting stuck on the island and trying to get off. I would love to be proved wrong though....however gunwielding military dinos is not what I mean by proving me wrong.

Sounds like Frank Marshall just pulled that out of his butt. He doesn't want to flat out say the project is cancelled or that they have no plans to make it any time soon so he just keeps saying "yeah it's.....coming soon." It's kind of like what happened with Indiana Jones 4. After Last Crusade came out, everyone was asking when number 4 would be made and everyone always said it will be made soon....and here we are almost 20 years after Last Crusade and we are just now getting a fourth movie.

I'm not saying JP4 won't get made, I'm sure it will eventually as the first three made all kinds of money and that is all Hollywood cares about, but Marshall has no idea when. I doubt it will be a remake, and I would hate to see the original JP be remade as it stuck as closely to the book as possible while having to cut it down to a 2 hour movie. A remake of TLW closer to the book, however, that I would like to see...but it won't happen.

Let's just hope when it does get made it doesn't suck or is a cheap straight-to-DVD flick about a group of teens on a party boat that crashes on Isla Sorna or even Nublar.

I predict JP4 will come out in 2012. It will concern Alan Grant finding out he had a son with that Costa Rican nurse he shacked up with while they were quarantined after the first movie. (This is, obviously, not the same affair with a Costa Rican nurse that ended his and Ellie's relationship. That was a completley different Costa Rican nurse affair. Does he have a son with that one? Well, we'll just have to wait until JP5!) So he has this son named, I dunno, Shia Grant. And they go off on dinosaur finding adventures.... However, they hear about this Kingdom with this ominous Crystal Skull.... which might actually be an alien being.... So, Grant, Grant Jr, and the family dog Mr. Skipperdoo (who always arrives in time to save the day!) search for answers in the only place they can: Within the location of Nick Van Owen's new documentary about horny drunken teenagers and dinosaurs on a ship- The SS Hammered Hadrosaur!

Personally, I think 2009 is a little optimistic, perhaps 2010 is more likely, but personally- I'm happy with a release sometime in the next five years or so. If JP4 is a poor movie, sites like this won't last much longer at all.

I don't know what's so difficult for the writers to come up with a good idea. There were so many unused scenes in the novels that never made it into the films that, if done well, could make a stand alone movie. Perhaps this writers strike is a good thing in that it may result in a kick ass, and series saving, script once they get back to work.

I think the originals SFX was so new, everything else is just a minor update.

The rightful writer's strike is just an excuse. The problem is, that stupid plot was the real deal, and they're lost without it, because nobody liked it. Even that pathetic Icefall made a better plot.

Any remake (if ever) would be around 2043 or later. Movies don't usually get remade 14 years later, just because technology wasn't up to snuff. And when was the last time a remake was heralded as better than the original?

They have no love for this franchise. They wanted a sequel again, couldn't get a plausible script to flesh out the allegedly ultra cool idea, and when they did, everybody and their clone poo pooed it. So they said, whatever, I'm doing other stuff. I get paid either way.

If JP4 gets made without the love for the franchise that once existed, there will be no JP5. Dinos In Space or otherwise.

I may be the only one, and of course this is just my opinion, but I thought the Spino looked horrible (when using the actual model - not the cgi).
For example, after he eats Nash infront of the plane, and then it roars, that looked so f'in fake I could not believe it.......nothing has come close to the work in the original Jurassic Park........I still think that movie stands out as the best special effects ever. Everything was so smooth in it. Especially in regards to JP movies, I think that it had the best special effects, hands down. Anyone agree?

Wouldn't mind seeing Spino in action again...despite snapping Rexy. The Spinosaur animatronic's huge and be a waste to just dispose it. :)

I don't want a remake either. They'll give us fully feathered velociraptors this time, that DO look like "six-foot turkeys".

It's really unfortunate its taking so long in getting us another JP movie. But the early ideas we all read about dinos and guns and brain control sounded more like Dino-Riders than JP. I hope they scrap all plans for another sequel and remake the original, and closer to the novel. Does anyone else think the JP movies played out more like junior novels? Give us a gritty intelligent JP!

I really hope this movie gets made. I love Jurassic Park. The 3rd was good, however, it did not live up to the Jurassic Park name (as i felt that it lacked substance).
