I'm sure you have probably seen this, but I just saw on one of those news shorts they have on Encore that Jurassic Park IV, Indiana Jones IV, and the Bourne Supremacy II all currently have scripts and will all be in theaters within three years.

If they make robots this time that is... May just as well be all CG dino's next time around.<<

I don't know...I'd kind of prefer robots to always be used to some extent, and I think they want the same thing. Not so much in JP3, but in TLW and especially in JP1, they used both robots and CGI and merged them together so well you could barely tell one from the other, and that's pretty impressive, especially for the time. It's not very often you get a movie that was made 12 years ago in 1993 whose special effects still look almost state-of-the-art.

    >>Therefore, if JP4 is supposed to follow a movie that will never be made, then by default it will never be made either.<<

I truly think Indy 4 will be made eventually. It's like with Rocky 6...they waited way too long to make it in my mind but after a long time in developement hell they are finally being made. JP4 I'm not so sure about. I definately don't want to see the one script we've seen so far made into a movie, so if they only way to see a decent movie is to wait as long to make JP4 as they have to make Indy 4 or Rocky 6, then so be it.

    And that just sucks.

    2010? Give me a break.

Producers can tackle multiple movies at once.

It's not exactly one movie after another.

Spielberg began pre-production on Munich while doing post-production on War of the Worlds.

Yeah, but Munich wasn't a special effects heavy film. Also, it had a small marketing campaign. JP4's going to be full of special effects, and it will have a huge marketing campaign.

Only a matter of months if the script is complete.

It's going to take at least 6 months of work before pre-production is finished. Remember they won't just make sets and costumes, they have to make robots too.

That's an example of how people can go from project to project.

That's unlikely. They haven't even started production on Indy 4. If they start production today, then it would take at least a year for Indy 4 to hit theaters, and I doubt that they would release a blockbuster like Indiana Jones 4 in January. So let's say it gets released summer 2007. Then, Frank Marshall starts production on Bourne Supremacy. That will take another year of production. So, that leaves Frank Marshall free to start production on JP4 sometime in the middle of 2008. JP4 is probably going to spend a long time in pre-production and I wouldn't be surprised if they started shooting some time in early 2009.So, summer 2010 seems realistic to me, given Marshall's schedule.

Indy 4 is planed for somewhere in 2006 so the JP4 movie will come somewhere in october 2007 or in the winter as a christmas movie?

The producer deals with the finances of the film, schedualing, just making sure the movie gets made legally, all that stuff that the director doesn't like to mess with.

And for Spielberg as Executive, he basically is the person who funds up the money.

I know there isn't a script or actors and all, but I'm just having some trouble with waiting forever just because Marshall hasn't got time.

But they don't have a script, or actors, or a director.

True...Spielberg pumps movies out pretty fast...but I highly doubt he will direct JP4.

Weird, IGN says that Spielberg is likely to direct JPIV:

"Next on Marshall's agenda after that is the fourth Jurassic Park movie. Spielberg is also expected to direct this one"

Maybe that would be possible if Spielberg was directing it, but he's not. He's an executive producer for JP4. They still haven't signed a director. I guess mainly because no one with a good reputation wants to risk their career over it.

Everyone has assistants, i think we should see JP4 in 2008 at the earliest. However if there is a script already they can do it in time for a late 2007 release.

A producer basically is a deal-maker. They assemble a film crew, negotiate a budget with the studio, and they make sure that the director doesn't go over it. So they need a producer to start the project. Unless the director also decides to produce the film. But, at this point all they have is a script, and we're not even sure if it's done.

Well they shouldn't make it at all if you ask me. Where'd all the original ideas go? Indy 4? JP 4? Bourne Ultimatum is a given, as it's already a trilogy in print...but I'm not getting my hopes up too high for JP or Indiana.

At 10:43:43 AM on 1/10/2006, pack raptor said:
Damn, that sucks. If Frank Marshall produces JP4 we probably won't see it until 2010. If they're basically done with the script, then why would they choose a producer that is so over-booked? Frank may be a friend of Spielberg's, but he should have just gone to Kathleen Kennedy(Producer of the entire JP trilogy). I don't think she's doing anything right now.
