Oh, and yeh I saw the Sound of Thunder trailer quite some time ago. Like summerish cos we used to have a September 04 release date for it back when I worked at that theatre, but alas, no dice. I'm looking forward to it cos I have vague memories of reading the Bradbury story in eight grade. If the effects are improved some post-trailer (which is why I'm hoping it's being delayed so long), it may have a chance to be quite the nifty treat in the already-dupped Year of the Geekgasm.

    I mean 372.

By the way, I just watched the trailer...the beginning sucked, looks too much like a futuristic version of TLW. Hunters going back in time to hunt the greatest predators that ever lived. Plus the dinosaurs look pretty fake. You can tell they are CGI. However, the rest of it - however unoriginal the messing with history and throwing off the present/future may be - looks like it could be good if it's done right.
Also...is it just me, or does that thing at the very very end of the trailer sound alot like a raptor screech from JP?

Yeah I was about to say, 600 km is like 312 miles lol.

At 6:03:35 PM on 1/19/2005, Driveshaft 2.0 said:
Still though, I think A Sound of Thunder is worth looking at. I think everyone here shares the loves of Dinos, and even though the Land Before Time (1-500) may not be up to snuff, a CG dino flick other than JP just might have a shot.

Disney's "Dinosaur" was the last attempt other than a JP movie, and talking Dinosaurs ("A-Lan!") wasn't a great idea.

But this? Looks like a "The Mummy," so it might do well.

Some Tsunamis have lengths over 100 km from head to tail.

Try going through that. These Mega Tsunamis get up to 600Km high.

I think we got it explained pretty good. And Driveshaft, you're in fact hinting that I'm saying the oposite of what I really am saying. Guess I could have been more clear. But yeah, not dangerous before it gets a chance to build up. So If an earthquake happens in the middle of the atlantic or something, it could very well just fade away before it reaches the shore, and nobody would really notice anything. If it gets close to land while still being strong, that's when things start to happen

You can't go under a wave...it goes all the way down. You can go through one though. But you're right, all that happened was they got moved a little bit.

    At 9:04:19 PM on 1/13/2005, krazykid3001 said:
The divers are fine because they were under the wave. There was water all around them so the force wasn't that great, they did get moved a little but nothing big.

its the same thing as a regular wave. Go under one and you won't get hit as hard as if you were above the water.

At 8:55:29 PM on 1/13/2005, Pazz Kat said:
No, here's the thing, a Tsunami starts when a large underwater force occurs, at that moment, a shockwave is sent out in the form of a wave which is not big. Given its location, the tsunami can take hours and hours to reach anywhere. The tsunami at start, in the deep ocean is small, with all of its power on the surface for the main part, since it's so far down to the bottom of the ocean. As soon as it reaches the continental drop, going inland, the wave starts to build tremendous force, which at this time the force also starts to go deeper, to the ground in order to support and move a fast moving wave. Of course, it doesn't have to hit anything but the chances of that are generally very slim.

    At 5:48:28 PM on 1/13/2005, raptor2000 said:
Driveshaft is right...a tsunami is a tsunami regardless of whether it is on land or not.

At 5:05:03 PM on 1/13/2005, Driveshaft 2.0 said:
Hate to break it to you Contica, but a Tsunami is defined as a very large ocean wave caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption.

So what do you mean it's not a tsunami until something hits against it?

At 5:01:52 AM on 1/13/2005, Contica said:
Well, now I didn't really mention how far out you have to be, but no, I'm not wrong.

Off course you couldn't be close to the shore, but remember this. Shores can be pretty big, and the waves will start building up pretty far away from dry land. I guess I could have been more clear. But the fact remains: The tsunami doesn't become a tsunami before something hits against it.

At 9:14:29 PM on 1/12/2005, Pazz Kat said:
So... I was right. Although I didn't take it in so much in depth.

'As for divers being okay, there's an easy explanation. no matter how great a wave like this, you can barely notice it when you're at sea or under water. It's when all the pressure hits something shit starts to happen. So when the wave meets the shore or rocks it will start to rise and become dangerous (or so the scientists say:)'

That's untrue. For this to have been the case, the divers would have had to have been pretty far out.

At 1:15:13 AM on 1/12/2005, Pazz Kat said:
Untrue with tsunamis. Unlike a regular wave where all the energy is on top, a tsunami has energy all the way through the wave, which allows them to gain so much momentum, that and their sheer size when they start to collapse. I *used* to be able to sense trains when I was like, 1-4 years old like 5-10 mins before they actually arrived near my house. I've heard that elephants broke free of their chains *oh help us the chains ain't strong enuff* grabbed children and ran for the hills, saving the parents as well.

    At 5:05:14 PM on 1/11/2005, raptor2000 said:
Yeah....if I'd seen all the animals suddenly running for higher grounds I would thought "hmmm...maybe I should follow them"

At 7:19:56 AM on 1/10/2005, Contica said:
Some speculate in that no animals were harmed because they can sense things like this. It's the same as when dogs or horses or whatever get uneasy when the weather is getting bad. If I remember correctly all of the animals ran to the hills and safety. Kinda strange if nobody noticed how all the animals suddenly fled.

As for divers being okay, there's an easy explanation. no matter how great a wave like this, you can barely notice it when you're at sea or under water. It's when all the pressure hits something shit starts to happen. So when the wave meets the shore or rocks it will start to rise and become dangerous (or so the scientists say:)

Get real, people. Just because they mention one person dying (westerner or not) it does NOT mean they (the media?) do not care about the other people that died. I offer no apologies for knowing who Richard Attenborough is and for not knowing (yet) the names of every other single person on the planet. But I do sincerely believe that every single person on the planet is just as valuable as everyone else.

    I agree with Neelis.

Anyway, I still think it is bizarre that there were hardly any animals killed/found dead from the tsunami, and how a pair of divers diving in the are were unharmed.

At 1:29:33 PM on 1/1/2005, Neelis said:
I think that, although it is tragic, the media give too much attention to western people who got injured or died, while we should focus on the local people who are hit by this: they have no house, no food, no water, no work, no money. The tourists from Europe, America, Australia etc: what happened to them is tragic, but they will come back home and be surrounded by loving family members and friends who will be there for them: they will get professional help: they might even get money. The locals will stay behind without anything. It's more important to focus on them than on the tourists.

How about we pray for the hundreds of throusands that most likely died. News stories like these piss me off. Let's report on one persons's death, or that 7 Americans are dead. Frankly who gives a shit, these people are no different then the ones that lived there and died. 5 million or so people have lost everything by this event and we will worry about one family, or just the Americans? Or Europeans? It sickens me.

Yeah I understand about the expectations to double.
