Author Michael Crichton did not think the Ian Malcolm character would become as popular as he did in the JP movie, so killed him off in the first novel. Asked to explain how he magically came back to life in the second book, Crichton said he Ian was only "slightly dead." (From: Dan J.)

I was about to suggest Dead Calm, too. :) It's more of a mystery/suspense movie, but it is VERY good.

I think that he should be in more action movies. The only action movies I know of that he's in are Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park ///, and Event Horizon. Are there anymore?

I knew his first name was Nigel. I heard Jay Leno tease him about it on the Tonight Show, back in 1993.
