Velociraptor is just one of the dinosaurs in the "raptor" family of dinos. It is actually the smallest of the group, consisting of Velociraptor, Deinonychus, Dromaeosaurus, and the recently discovered Utahraptor. (From: Irusha S.)

According to an IGN article, Jurassic PArk: Survival was slated for the PS2 and X-Box platforms. However, the IGN article hasn't been updated with any news since late last spring, and the Official JP3 Site advertises it an only for the PS2. As for the sudden shift in developer's, I'd have to agrre with Dan and DarthMaulSithLord that its a major undertaking to redo the entire project due to the Savage graphics engine being Savage property. I'm sure in a situation such as this, Universal would be better off considering to scrap the entire project - as mush as I hate to say it. :(

Anusaurus, if Survival really does come out, then it will be on the X-Box as well as PS2. It has another name though: Jurassic Park X. This, apparently, is the same game as Survival, just a new name. Before everything happened with the sudden stop in the making of Survival, Jurassic Park X was listed as a game by Savage, but now I'm not sure.

People, if you want to blame someone for this BS, blame Universal. They practically ripped Savage off.

Wow, this is serious news. Think about it-If this is indeed a real priority for Universal, than that's why they are giving the "70%" of the game over to another developer to allow the new developer to build their own game on top of all of the work put into it by Savage for a fresh outlook at it since it wasn't going over too well with Savage; resulting in a really great game! Or the new developer's role in this could be to just tie the strings together so Universal can get it out there to start to get some of their money back, resulting in another horrible game from a movie like Nintendo 64's Indiana Jones. The test of time will show us I guess.

Another question that is worthy of investigation and reporting back to the JP community is whether or not this game is going to be STRICTLY licensed to Sony's Playstation2 or if it is just being primarily made for the PS2 with the intentions of later having it ported to the GameCube and/or Xbox. Many next generation games come out for one system and than later come out for other systems. The GameCube and Xbox launch dates where right around the original release date for Survival. Maybe Survival wasn't going to be prepared as a launch game for some reason eliminating the chances for GameCube or Xbox so it was first set to be released on PS2. This is a serious console query for anyone here who is interested in playing this game so if anyone knows where to find out about how this game's contract is set up in correlation with the PS2 or any future consoles, do your homework!

Well, I don’t think Savage is so much to blame in this instance. I’m assuming this situation is very similar to that of a developer working on payment per milestone. So in effect, they are living paycheck to paycheck from the publisher. In the instance the publisher wants to short the developer on a payment they make up any old excuse, like in the simulated conversation below –

    Game Developer – GM
Project Producer of the Publisher – Mr. Moron

GM – “Ok, we got the milestone completed. What do you think?”

Mr. Moron – “(ahem) Where’s the level 4? I thought we agreed on completion of level 4 as well as the new art changes that our content advisors here wanted. I even expressly remember our attorney told you that he felt the T-Rex conveyed too much angst toward society in its current design. He did suggest you color him purple and even name it Barney. I see no purple T-Rex here, much less a name for it.”

GM – “Hold on. We did agree on completion of level 3 and 6 for this milestone so that your QA folks could get it checked. You said nothing about level 4. Also, I don’t recall anyone telling me about a purple…”

Mr. Moron – (interrupting) “Yes I did mention level 4.”

    GM – “Uh, No - you didn’t”

Mr. Moron – “Yes I did. I said so and you can’t prove I didn’t”

GM – “It doesn’t matter what you said. We have a contract addendum here stating the changes”

Mr. Moron – “I didn’t send it. Who did you get it from?”

GM – “Uh, that would be you. Your frickin’ name is on the frickin’ fax cover.”

Mr. Moron - “Don’t you take that tone with me. I can make or break you on this project. I can easily recommend they scrap it entirely if I tell them you can’t meet deadlines. Now where that my purple T-Rex.”

GM – “It’ll be in there with the next milestone as soon as we get another change in the contract.”

Mr. Moron – “Then we can’t pay you for this milestone. What do you think about that?”

GM – “Then the project is on hold from our stand point cause we don’t work for free.”

Mr. Moron – “FINE! I’ll recommend the change in developers then”

GM – “Okay. Our attorney will be in contact with you shortly”

Mr. Moron – “OH YEAH!?!? Well….ah…UP YOURS! YEAH! THERE!”

I am happy I think Savage was stupid to cancel it. Now Universal has new workers for cheaper. I don't care who makes the game. It won't be out for a while but at least the game will come out. The nightmare is over. The game is 70% done so January or February are likley. I sure hope nothing changes. Change is bad.

Frankly, I doubt you would see this game out any time soon given the timing and all - they'll likely miss this Christmas if they port it to another game unit and next year JP3 franchise would lose some of its luster. Maybe they'll hold it for JP4?

But then what do I know...

DarthMaulSithLord: I was thinking that exact same thing. If Sagage used their fancy propritary graphics engine in the game (which was one of the first things reported about the game), that engine would still be propritary and owned by Savage. If Universal wanted to continue with it, they'd need to get another company to re-do the whole graphics engine. From strictly a coding stand-point, it seems like a nightmare...

Sounds like a Universal ploy to get a cheaper developer. This happened to a game company I worked for once. Our head code-monkey botched the source code on this game porting project so it would take the next developer forever to resume where we left off. The reasons were the same - disagreement over payment. Ah, those struggling game developer days are long gone for me.....great work for grads straight out of college though.
