Um yah.... That is just a slang form of spelled. I just put 'spelt' because it's faster to type in that form. And my main point was that it's not very hard to pronounce Giganotosaurus, not the spelling of the word. And why would you take the time to look spelt up in the dictionary?? Talk about a waste of time. You must have no life whatsoever.

Great, I've always wanted the books, and now I'll see the story on TV.

You've misspelled 'spelled' Now THAT'S just sad!

God I love irony.

Anyway, look for Dinotopia this spring on ABC. I'll be here all week, Peace out!

Spelt [spelt ] noun
Hardy wheat: a hardy variety of wheat of inferior quality, sometimes grown in mountainous regions. Latin name Triticum spelta

It's spelt Giganotosaurus. And you pronounce it by looking at how it's spelt. And if you still can't pronounce it....well that's just sad.

How do you pronounce gigantosaurs?

" We had interest at first from animation producers like Disney, and later from live-action filmmakers like George Lucas (who wanted to produce and direct Dinotopia back in 1994). Sony/Columbia, who had the option, turned him down and did a lot of development on their own in the mid-90s. But even after the pioneering work of JURASSIC PARK and other films in the mid-90s, the digital effects field was not developed enough to handle the cost and the scope of the project."

(From dinotopia.com)
He then goes on to say:

"Producer Rober Halmi is putting everything he has into Dinotopia. He has brought the talents of the Jim Henson Creature Shop and Framestore (who did Walking with Dinosaurs) to help create the dinosaur characters... Hallmark's screen story will be a bold interpretation, very different from the books. It has new characters and a new story set in the modern age... I have not been involved in any way in the script, design, or casting of the show."

Anyway, as for that whole lack of dinos eating people thing, Dinotopia all just started as a couple of paintings depicting a dinosaur parade and a huge city atop a water fall... not exactly Godzilla vs. Tokyo.

because (probably) disney (yuk) and Lucas (okay) changed their minds.

I don't get it, there must be something dangerous in the story ? I mean, in all books, there is a danger, a bad guy, whatever. And if the dinos aren't, then who is it ?

Yeah, screw 'peaceful' dinos, in Dinotopia they just 'coexist'...

Anyway, here's some more Dinotopia tidbits for ya:

Apparently in the past few years, James Gurney (The Author/Illustrator) had been approached by both Disney and George Lucas to obtain the rights for a big screen version...

So WHY are we getting a Halmark miniseries?!

there where gigas ?

Anyways, I've never read Dinotopia ... But Gurney must be a great athor if he can make an interesting story with peacefull dinos ... (So ... What happens in the story if the dinos are 'peacefull' ?)

The gigantosaurs were pretty cool too (in The World Beneath)

Dinotopia was a pretty good story, but gentle dinosaurs??? They better at least show the tyrannosaurs, they were pretty nasty in the story (in the book they robbed the caravan and ate all their fish). Hopefully they'll snatch up some people too. Awww, I'm dreaming...

Here's hoping we see ol' Saint Nick pulled by 8 tiny protoceratops!

WWD and WDRA have the best CGI dinosaurs. They look amazingly real.

Will it just be the original? I liked "world beneath" as well. Here's to the noble Skybax riders.

Man, I've brought this up 100's of times here! How can you be a fan of JP and NOT love Dinotopia?!

I think the dinos here will look great, they're done by the same Co. that did WWD, AND with some help from the Jim Henson Creature Shop.

However, I know great liberties are being taken in the story/set department due to budget and lack of involvent by James Gurney. But so far he approves so I guess that's good...

www.dinotopia.com is DEFINATELY worth checking out for more info.

Well, to me WWD is the 2nd best for CGI dinos.

It'll probably have cheap CGI shots like they have in The Lost World series (hey, show's still great). Surely Dinotopia will be awesome to watch, but I don't think other movies with CGI dinos or other creatures will be as good as the ones in JP.

I read one or two of the Dinotopia books. I never really got into em, but I am sure this series will be interesting. I remeber when some Department store, Sears I think it was had this Dinotopia promo where you could get your pic taken in a dino topia background.

well, jp had some 50 shots, and jp3 had 200 cgi shots. 4 times 50 is oh, i guess dinotopia will have the same amount of jp3(a 90 minute film)
and dinotopia is what? 300 minutes? noting big....but maybe they are refering to jurassic park 3? but at 85 million dollar budget, i dont' think so....jp3 has nearly a 100 mill budget.

Four times as much CGI as JP.. that woud be roughly 40 minutes? That isn't too much for a miniseries, especially when you consider how much WWD had.
