Hey all, Happy 2017! It looks like the new Teaser Trailers are here, hope we can all enjoy them :)

    Cheers!

    Trailer 1

    Trailer 2

Personally, I dig the tone and look, seems like a fun time!

Don't use that F word around here, you simpleton piece of shit.

I will. Looks Fun. Love the visuals going on here via Bayona's direction. The discussion has moved to the Dan's JP Group on Facebook, fyi. Even though it's still comprised of about 60% of those that just aren't the audience for this kind of thing anymore followed by paragraphs of "Fight me!" stretched into a boring eternity.

I'll be objective, the comic-relief character in glasses... why?

You have this otherwise tense looking scene, and then this nerd high-pitch screaming into the camera like it's Fieg's Ghostbusters comedy. Highly skeptical of that, which irritates me because the rest looks so fucking boss. The cinematography is great.

I have no interest in this movie. The last one was, hands down, the single worst movie-going experience of my life, and I once saw Oliver Stone's Alexander in a dirty shopping mall theater while a three year old kid was running around screaming and laughing in front of the screen. This looks even dumber and smugger than the first one. They've taken the public's good will and nostalgia for a good movie from 25 years ago and it's decent sequel and turned into yet another undead, braindead action franchise tonally and intellectually identical to all the other stupid fucking shit that's been coming out every six weeks for the past decade. It's a cultural travesty and I long ago decided to opt out, not just with this movie but all the Marvel crap, the DC Cinematic Universe crap, Star Wars, all of it. If people get a kick out of watching one of these movies every once in a while, great, I'm glad they're having a good time, but this endless industrial production of soulless garbage, even if it's "fun," is revolting and, I think, immoral.

Also, Paul, awful comic relief characters destroying the tension of scenes is just how they make movies now. Didn't you watch the first Jurassic World? Or Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Or Guardians of the Galaxy, or any of the other Marvel movies?

Side note: My love for Jeff Goldblum is undying, but, between this, the Independence Day sequel, the new Thor movie, and the whole culture of late night talk show skits and viral YouTube videos, he's become the next Christopher Walken, a brilliant actor reduced to stunt casting and cameo fan-service. At least Wes Anderson is still giving him some decent material to work with, even if he never lets him out of supporting roles.

I can name a few Marvel movies where this occurs in a way that took me out of it, but I didn't personally find this in either Jurassic World or The Force Awakens. For example, I really liked Jake Johnson's Lowry as essentially playing a Dan's JP3 member. I never felt he lessened a moment or crippled a scene or otherwise intruded on a tone the movie was going for. JW is intentionally childish and playful, those are words straight out of Colin Trevorrow's mouth in regards to his approach. Child-like wonder at your surroundings and fascination with dinosaurs. Here with Fallen Kingdom, this guys moments feel like over the top loud comedy during scenes that are clearly made to be straight suspense. He currently gives me the shivers. Screaming about how scary the situation is, screaming in general... feels like almost every side character in Bay's Transformers films, and I hate that shtick. JW? Not so much.

The Force Awakens? I'm not even sure who I could point to. Finn? He has a slapsticky moment or two involving psychical comedy, but again, never moments that betray the lighthearted tone present during all of these scenes. Where things get serious? There's no attempts at a laugh during, say, the climatic confrontation in the snowy forest with Kylo Ren. It's as straight as a razor.

Overall I'm pretty far removed from your assessment about these movies being so soulless and immoral; a minute of footage comprised of Crichton-esque themes and dinosaur action/awe raised no such response in me. I see all the topics I appreciate and associate with a Jurassic story concerning man and nature, wrapped in an exciting adventure narrative that appeals to my inner-kid. I'll happily leave that be if you will! Old territory. As you essentially said, I'm too old for that shit. We like what we like, and I'm sorry your experience with Jurassic World was that rotten.

Nothing about that contradicts the tone of that moment though, and it also begins to illustrate who those characters are as we meet them. Some goth looking dope in a mask drags him over, after freezing his laser in mid-air, and kneels in front of him in awkward silence in an attempt to elicit Vader-like intimidation and Poe wasn't having it (even as he's being tortured later); people complained that the Prequels were too dry with the way its characters spoke/reacted to situations, and that it helped make them feel boring. I guess they can't win if things like this bothered these same people. Star Wars is suppose to be fun, that response from Poe makes him likable from the get-go and help set the tone for a more relatable, human vibe over the depiction of the Jedi.

I agree with Ostro. I can't believe these words are leaving my mouth, but there's a film in the Jurassic Park franchise coming out that I have absolutely zero interest in. I mean, I long ago ran out of patience with the Star Wars films, but there's at least some semblance of interest that'll encourage me and my friends to go and watch it (even though I'm certain it'll be as terrible as The Force Awakens).

But this film just looks so bad, so dumb, the perfect example of everything that is wrong with cinema. What, there's a volcano on Nublar now, is that it? Even Jeff Goldum's deliverance of the lines in the trailer sounded clunky and awful.

It looks really, really bad. And the worst thing is, everyone's blowing up on social media about how great it looks. Even my girlfriend thought Jurassic World was better than Jurassic Park. Sigh.

I'm not sure Kylo was meant to be anything other than intimidating during that scene. All of the stuff you said above was characterisation introduced later in the film, and not to the extent you are implying.

I'm not saying he was meant to be anything more than intimidation; they expand upon his character later once he starts throwing temper tantrums and the mask comes off, but his first impression is still exactly that of a Vader wannabe. Poe's characterization absolutely begins where I said it does, and the opening of The Last Jedi where Poe de-fangs General Hux in a very similar fashion solidifies that being an introductory moment that set the tone for what kind of guy he is.

Btw, The Last Jedi is the best Star Wars film with Empire. Even Lee would have good things to say about this one. I think.

I appreciate everybody's more nuanced thoughts and experiences. I honestly didn't expect this many replies, or else I might offered a bit more words than just "fun" :) I didn't care for Jeff G's narration, especially since the Nostalgia Points were so obvious; at least come up with a new line, for fuck's sake!

I only saw Jurassic World in the theaters once, and I haven't seen it since. I really enjoyed the hype leading up to it, but overall Ostro's and everybody else's thoughts are spot on. I personally did have "fun" seeing Jurassic World opening night, as I was with all my friends that grew up obsessed with these movies. Had I watched it alone, it certainly would have been a negative experience, hah.

Will I see this movie in theaters? Probably.. Will I ever watch it again after that? Likely not, we'll see!

Yeah, I'm with you all on this one. Jurassic World was depressingly bland. At the time I enjoyed it but I was just overjoyed to be back in the park. Once I left and actually thought about it, it all turned stale very quickly. Honestly, same thing happened to me for JP3.

And by the looks of the trailer, by the end of the year, Jurassic Park can officially join that dubious club of franchises where there are more bad movies than good ones
